The Stones are basically blues rock. But this song had strong disco vibes to it . Definitely a massive hit for them in late 70's and stayed number one on the charts for a long time.
The greatest rock band of all time!!! Over 50 years of music, and STILL performing.!!
U forget led zeppelin the greatest stones is close thou maybe the 3rd best band behind mighty zeppelin and Pink Floyd
@@coolbreeze5741no. I agree that the Stones are the greatest rock and roll of all times. Pink Floyd is spacial rock and LZ is hard rock with lot of plagiarism.
Sweet dreams
They are one of the greatest rock bands of all time, their catalog is so diverse it's indescribable, but you will be thrilled you went down this rabbit hole
The Stones began as a English blues band in 1962. Their name came from a song by bluesman Muddy Waters.
Shattered, waiting on a friend, let it bleed, only rock n roll, etc etc
Undeniably the greatest rock and roll band of all time
This is one of those songs that for me take me back to a time and place the moment I hear it. It was 1979 and I was on my first business trip in beautiful San Diego. I was driving up the I5 and was just soaking in all that SoCal could offer and this song came on the car radio. Magic !
The two main songwriters are the singer (mick jagger) and the rhythm guitarist (Keith Richards). Much is mostly Funk and sou influence, and Keith is old school rock and roll influence... together their sound is this. Great reaction. Thank you.
Aww, yeah. Bringing back good fun memories of summers past.😎 We know you were cute in your shirt.
Great reaction. The “hook” in this song besides Mick Jagger’s great vocals, is the base line which (many folks don’t know) was “worked out” in a London hotel room by Jagger and the late, great Billy Preston (although he was uncredited). You were right about the rock and funk vibe which back then, we called disco music. A lot of people hated disco at the time but it was very big for a few years and The Stones wanted to get in on it too. Most of that music still stands tall today with some of the best dance and vibe music of all time. Incidentally, the best version of this song is not that album version you just heard but the “12 inch” Disco Version” which was mixed by Bob Clearmountain who also mixed the 7 inch single version heard on the radio at the time. You can find it right here on UA-cam.
Great track, funky and smooth, incorporating contemporary music sounds. This was the age of disco still, and the Stones used that to their advantage on the whole album (Some Girls: 1978) Imo, one of the best bass lines of the entire decade, timeless band!
But “Miss You” is the only song from Some Girls (1978) with any inkling of disco, and it's more of an ode to the sleazier side of the NY disco club scene. Outside of that, Some Girls is mostly a bare-bones rock album inspired by the rough-hewn rock (a la punk) coming out of New York in the 1970s.
*bass lines 😉
The singer is Mick Jagger. He is is now 80 years old and dates a 31 year old lady. If you ever get the chance to see a performance, I guarantee it will be an experiece you'll never forget.
This is one of my top five favorite Stones songs, possibly the top three.
Exile on main street my favourite stones album ever I have been a fan since they started got all their albums on vinyl and cd and dvd . ❤
Good first choice !! 👍 Love " The Stones" R.I.P Charlie Watts 🙏
Harlem Shuffle and Waiting For A Friend are musts!
A funky Rock n' Roll song that's so cool is The Black Crowes' "Twice As Hard"
Just discovered you....your hands on the hips attitude fits this song to a tee!
Love this song. Great reaction Ashley!
The Rolling Stones started in 1962 (just a few years after the Beatles) and did mostly old blues covers. The Beatles came to the US in February of 1964, The Animals came that summer, and then The Rolling Stones and Herman's Hermits came towards October. The Beatles wrote their first hit for them (I wanna be your man) and put them on the charts. As 40s and 50s blues became more influential in the mid 60s leading to Clapton, Jeff Beck, Peter Green, and Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin). The stones were still on tour this year.
Seen them in an outdoor concert in Ames Iowa in late 80's, they had a 50 foot blow up doll on stage, excellent concert 😊
My 2nd favorite Stones song beside "Brown Sugar." "Waiting on a Friend " is another great mellow song of theirs. So much to hear from the Stones.
Okay Ashley, glad you liked this one. The Rolling Stones were incredibly diverse! If you'd like to hear one of the hottest jams ever, you might enjoy, "Can't You Hear Me Knocking!!" Just, wear a seat belt!! 😇👋😊🥂
MISS YOU was The Rolling Stones disco song. Disco was very hot and alot of Rock -N- Roll groups made disco songs to stay current with times.
Love the bass line in this
Bushwick Brooklyn I heard this song 1980s. Awesome
They grew up listening to American blues in fact there's a video with muddy waters in Chicago perfoming and he notices the stones in the audience he invites them on stage and they jam together
Great reaction.....Stones are a rock/blues band....They genre-jumped quite alot from the blues to rock to country to reggae...This is Mick, Keith and crew's jump into their funk/disco bag. My late uncle put me up on the Stones. Their rock stuff is epic. Check out Jumpin' Jack Flash, Sympathy For The Devil, and Shattered...INSANELY good....
I've noticed you've been doing a lot of writing here lately for your play list. I got another one for your list "Black Coffee" by Humble Pie
@2:23 "A mixture of Funk & Rock. This is a vibe."
😅😅😅Yes and the "vibe" in ALL MUSIC ......lasted from late 60''s to late 80's!!!!!!!!!!!!
A band well worth looking into with a back catalogue to beat any band. Blues, rock, soul, gospel. country, funk......
Thanks for the 1978 stones!
Check out Sympathy for the Devil. One of their most iconic songs. It’s a masterpiece.
Sympathy for the Devil and Paint It Black 🔥
One of Rocks most versatile acts.
In the top 5 greatest bands in history
The way you started to move is exactly how Mick Jagger moves to the song.
EMOTIONAL RESCUE.
Wow. Bill Wyman on that cool bass.
I think Wyman was a no show for recording and Keith did the bass work for the record.
Da Stones 🔥🔥🔥
You need to do waaaay more rolling stones, so many iconic songs :)
We called them the Disco Stones in the late 70's.
Rolling Stones Angie and Besst of Burden are also great.
Rolling Stones do Disco
7.30.23. The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Who, and the Beatles. They are the big five! They are top tier groups, none higher. Not to hate on other groups, but they don’t have quite the legacy these five do⚠️stick within these groups and you’ll be busy for quite a while lol.
I agree with the list. Queen also has a lot of great stuff
One of the greatest of all time ...their up high on list ..your just scratching surface with one song 🎵
Speaking of nirvana do the unplugged version of where did you sleep last night it's amazing
If you look up the definition of rock and roll you would see a picture of the rolling stones... or at least it should be.
This song has almost reggae blended with funk vibe. This is probably my favorite Rolling Stones songs but this isn't their only style. They can do a country vibe like they do in "Far Away Eyes" or "The Last Time" or they can do blues or sometimes, just straight up rock and roll. It's a deep rabbit hole as many rabbit holes are. Personally, I like their early music like "Mother's Little Helper" or "Ruby Tuesday" but that's me.
You picked a good Stones era to hear from! The Somes Girls' record was full of good tunes
Even Kiss Group made a disco song. I was made for loving you.
I saw the stones with living colour in clemson in 89
Yeah they was funky!😊 They would open up for Tina Turner.😮. It has been said that a lot of his dance moves came from watching her on the side stage😅 they and George Clinton and funkadelic went head-to-head George didn't like the song some girls because in it Mick Jagger said"all a black girl wants to do F all night. It was an interesting time to live in back in the 70s😮! We had a good ass time🎉
Moore❤
Welcome to the Rolling Stoned world! lol...make sure for yourself you hear the official adio...that was somewhat remixed down.
ROLLING STONES -SOME GIRLS
Make sure you check the iconic Harlem Shuffle by the Stones.
Musical genres were fluid back in the 70s
Actually, when "Some Girls" came out in 77? You could buy either Rock or Disco version! True.
Most Stones' songs are very vibey! Rock, Blues, Funk, Folk, Pop, Country, etc. Some are pretty dark....Paint It Black, Gimme Shelter, Sympathy for the Devil, etc.
The full or extended version of this song is much better with a breakdown to the bass guitar.
I just subscribed. Love your reactions. Your amazing. You must do The Rolling Stones Live in Texas 1978 Beast Of Burden. Incredible. Also you mentioned after you reacted to Led Zeppelin you would do more. Please do Led Zeppelins Live Madison Square Garden 1973 "Since I've Been Loving You" Its incredible
Now you have to react to The Rolling Stones' "Sympathy for the Devil."
The Stones answer to Disco in the 70's. They were always willing to change with the times.
Young lady! You MUST hear ‘Gimme Shelter’, live with Lisa Fisher back vocals!!!!
Hey Ashely, great reaction, check out The Stones song (I can't get no) satisfaction, It's a pen clicker too.
The Stones are bad af, grrl you need to start playing more of their songs!!! Trust me, you’ll _never_ be disappointed!
You've been into the BeeGees this song came out around the same time. In the Disco era of the 70's.
The Rolling Stones are the Funkiest Rock band there is.....
They are both
According to Paul McCartney, they're just a blues cover band :)
The new music 🎵 today is Good, good talented voices, but a lot of them feel the need to use computer enhanced voices and computer generated sound effects in damn near every song today especially todays Rap Artists ,unlike in the 70s & 80's where it was pure, clean music 🎵🎶 played rught in your face and they were downright getting on down to the funky sound with little to No computer sound effects until Herbie Hancock came out with Rock it , The Soul Sonic Force with Planet Rock and Zapp and Roger Troutman with all their top hit's computer enhancement was almost none existent prior to the 1980's 😊
We want to give you another stones shirt.
This is the cut version. Check out the album version with Sax and Harmonica. It's better.
So Ashley, The Rolling Stones is a rock band, but they grew up in England listening to the blues from the likes of Muddy Waters. Muddy had a song called Rolling Stone and they named the group after this. So think of it like this, a lot of the English bands were heavily influenced by the black music here in the states. So they would create there own music trying to sound like the Blues and basically repackaged it and exported to the United States white kids. The white kids ate it up, not knowing they had all the blues in their own backyard.
Funny thing though, the English bands had a tough time trying to get that black flavor in their music so they would hire black background singers to give it that extra oomph. One of the greatest Female vocalists, Lisa Fischer sang backup on tour with them for over 20 years. She had her own solo career in the 80s, albeit brief, because she felt more comfortable behind the lead singer than being out front. But she did win a grammy for the song, "How can I ease the pain." I highly suggest reacting to it but the live version in Japan. You will see, she had no need for autotune.
Anyway, if you want to get a little more background of my writing here, watch and react to 20 Feet from Stardom, it is about the mostly black background singers that helped make the hits of legendary songs and artists by adding the flavor that was missing. Here is the trailer to the documentary. ua-cam.com/video/tWyUJcA8Zfo/v-deo.html
Also, the leasd singer you hear in this song, Mick Jagger, just turned 80 years old last week. Hard to believe.
Okay if you want to see what Mick Jagger's all about you have to check out Midnight Rambler live 2012 at MSG You better hang on to something you will be blown away.
I think this is disco. But it's got funky guitar. Disco was all the rage when this album came out.
do a reaction to their song,,,,,,,,,,,,,symathy for the deviil.............they can be street rock or go very deep
Hey Ash..been dialed in for a while, great reviews..!! Please have a listen to official, studio versions of Gimme Shelter and Sympathy for the Devil...& there is just so much more...
Ashley, you should react to give me shelter. That is an awesome rolling Stone song for sure😊
12 inch version even better
At 80, Mick is the oldest man to front a rock band
No doubt that this song is funky.
The Stones with Taylor Swift ua-cam.com/video/yFZvbrCI3oo/v-deo.html Taylor & Mick ua-cam.com/video/D_P29EozqYY/v-deo.html
@ 1:04 Become Mick
that's the shortest version....
When we going onna date😂😂❤
All the British Invasion bands were influenced by American Blues. Even the Stones and Led Zeppelin.
i've noticed that u take your pen and jot down some things u took notice in the song that u would like to discuss but u never discuss what u write down after your videos. oh well, good reaction
You are justified in your poser fandom when you eventually become a fan....
why are you dancing like mick jagger before the song even starts
stones are a cheap version of the beatles
Stones are a rock band from England but they definitely put some funk in their music
Nice job! You are about to open Pandora's Box with them. They have LOTS of classic songs. Just release their first in many years. Lady Gaga sings on a song as well as Paul McCartney (Beatles) It's pretty good. Cheers!
Brings back memories with this one!!! Love it
