Greeting from Michigan, love your enthusiasm for someone as old me 73, I get such joy out seeing young people enjoying the music and getting so into it.
They turned out to be the Greatest Rock Band of all time, with almost 60 years of music, recently played in Cuba, I thought Havana Moon was incredible.
This is a fantastic album, some girls, and it came out when I was in junior high and I had my first girlfriend and she was about a year older than me and boy did she love this album. So we played it all the time. It was kind of a comeback album for them because they had had a lot of problems in the previous few years but it was a Leap Forward musically as well. And stylistically. Just so many great songs on it. And there is a fascinating country honk ballad on it that is surprisingly addictive called, The Girl With Faraway Eyes. Also, the album itself was physically amazing. It's hard to describe it and even if you see a picture of it you probably won't understand it, because it had all these cutouts on it over and over that these repeated images of I think like a Marilyn Monroe type figure, very Andy Warhol. But then as you pulled the inner sleeve out that contained the record, it had designs on it too and as you pulled it out you could kind of see the images behind it kind of shift and change.
I was 13 and wanted this LP so badly, but my Mom thought the cover was too racy😀. I pulled a fast one though. My parents were divorced and I convinced Mom that Dad, who was a big music fan, wanted this album. I went through the charade of wrapping it and taking it to Dad’s for Christmas. He got a bunch of other presents that year, but not the Some Girls album! I still have it.
I have a hard time when considering who to choose as the best band of all time, the Stones or Zeppelin..!? Thank goodness we don't HAVE to choose. For me it has proven to be an exercise in complete futility... Thanks for this one Big Slime. I have a migraine from Hell & this made me smile in spite of the pain. You the man! 🌬🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼💨
YES!!! I call this the Rolling Stones' Disco song 🔥. Lots of rock bands put out songs with that disco beat at the time; Queen had "Another One Bites The Dust", Rod Stewart had "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy", Kiss had "I Was Made For Loving You"; there's more! Long live Disco, and for those who say disco sucks, I say you're just jealous cause you can't dance 😂. The Rolling Stones is one of the greatest rock bands ever; such a varied catalog; they are top in my opinion.
I remember my neighbor friend John who was a year older and kinda bullied me but also got an allowance check from his grandma in FL every week and took me to 7-11 every week, he got this 45 with this as the A side and Beast of Burden on the other side I think. (Or maybe it was Faraway Eyes). But we spun the shit out of this. I love the “gonna bring round these Puerto Rican girls who’s just dying to meetchoo” lol. Great groove. Stones understood the assignment when it was disco on the pop charts.
