So these little no filter nano aquariums are my favourite. I really like the bowl aquariums as well as they are particularly challenging given the magnification the bowl creates.
Hopefully you enjoy this one guys. I enjoyed it so much, there will be more no filter nano tanks coming soon :)

If you're looking to make a paludarium for a corn snake I would watch serpadesign he might give you some ideas for the setup :)
Have u thought about doing an Aquascaping competition. That would be an interesting series. The planning the prep just an idea
This is amAZING.
My two favourite things about aquariums in one, hair grass and shrimps.
We don't have any aquarium stores in my place,so I use a glass jar. I planted some hair grass I found in the fields and a shrimp my friend caught for me from the river.
This video is just awesome.
Can't wait to see the shrimps in it
haha. Thanks
Great video, MD! This was a very enjoyable sort-of back-to-basics tutorial, and I really appreciate your focus on using materials that you can pretty much acquire from around the house, or a quick trip to the hardware store (plants excluded). That bowl came out really well, and I look forward to following its progress, and maybe even scaping a bowl of my own. Keep up the good work!
Those stones are awesome in that bowl! What an eye you’ve got!

How do you prevent biofilm in a no filter set up?
This is why I started to follow this channel. A simple set-up and very inspiring to do it yourself. I still prefer the nano no tech scapes but I love how the channel evolved. Shrimps are my favorite!
I've learned more about fish keeping, aquascaping, general inspiration, from any other youtube channel than this one. Thats by no means saying there aren't other good ones out there, but your videos, your dispositions, your overall energy in your work is not only informative but very entertaining as well. Love love love your videos man, been a quiet subscriber for many years now :)
Was thinking straight away how my missus would react when baking the soil. Good thing you put the disclaimer you must have saved a few lives! Love your vids mate keep it up 👍
thank you....she still doesn't know but asked what the smell in the oven is haha.

Great video. My partner has decided that now is the time to find out what all the fuss is about, so I've given her my first ever bowl to re-scape! First task, get her to watch this video!! Thanks so much! 👍
well thanks very much :)
You inspired me to try this type of tank. I now have 4 of these small no filter, no air tanks. They are doing great. My lime green endlers are breeding in their bowl. My old betta, Earl, is happy in his cube. My celestial pearl danios and my emerald dwarf rasboras are doing great in their respective cube tanks. All are 4 gallons and under.
Do you live in an area where the temps don't get too cold? Id like to do this but may need a heater as it might get too cold
Ooh!for the Betta do you use an air stone? Or a heater?
I really want to do this in my new apartment

Beautiful set up, I'm brand new to scaping so taking in as many instructional vids as possible, loved the dirt from the garden bit! Now when you talk about cycling, how can you cycle without a filter? Does the beneficial bacteria grow on the hard scape rather than on the filter media in this kind of set up?
Greetings, I just wanted to say that I have been following you for a long time, not from this account from another, and I wanted to say that you are super talented. yours and newer how hard. I make terrariums as a hobby and as a small business and it was not very hard, but it's so hard when you start filming and editing, I just want to tell you that you have my respect for everything you do, you're great :)
I'm just impressed with your eyelashes
Hey MD,
Great video as always, one thing I wanted to know is about the light, how many hours do you have this on during the day?
Also is it possible to do a similar build without a light just with natural sunlight? (naturally not in direct sunlight)?
Thanks
You wouldn't need a filter if there's no fish and if you do water change once it gets dirty.
where can i find the progress on this bowl? love to see how you got on with the UG.
1st song name = Nobody Else by Swif7
2nd song name = Pinata by El Neon
if anyone wanted to know.
Always makes me laugh when you say the scientific names of the plants. haha.
MD, I'm quite a seasoned aquascaper and got to say i love your approach. I wish i found you when i got into the scene about 10 years ago! even the most seasons aquascaper can find so much inspiration and help from your videos. cant wait to get scaping some nice simple bowls!! thanks dude
I come to watch the scapes, I stay for the scientific name pronunciations. 😘
Can I put in a goldfish in a set up like this? I've just started looking into getting a smaller pet lately juggling between a hamster, rabbit or fish and I've finally decided on a fish, specifically a gold fish or two but I'm looking into a set up that's not too fancy or high maintenance and this got me intrested.
So will at least 2 goldfishes be alright in a tank that's set up like this???
No, goldfish need wayyy more room than this. 2 goldfish would probably need like a 40 gallon tank. If you don't want a tank then you could do a patio pond or indoor pond.
I love this video. Am a newbie and want to make my first bowl just like this. But, how do I maintain it? Does it have to be drained and refilled every so often or....? Please let me know as this video is the inspiration I needed to finally try this week. Love the simplicity but so wondering about how to keep it. Thanks!
Not much maintenance besides the first week do a couple 50% water change in case of ammonia spike then after its established just do 25% water change every week
“That looks rubbish.” ???
Honestly, I was looking at that with a sense of calm and peace, almost with an outward smile and your comment startled me.
Cool, cool stuff.
Wishing i could have those aqua plants we have very limited species in my area 😓
You have such beautiful artistic tanks! I appreciate this tutorial on setting up a small bowl which is about all I have room for. Always been interested in a mainly plant tank. Thanks . Also, what is it with aquarium channels and good looking men??
I always wanted to make my own mini ecosystem in a fish bowl and your video is so educational and gives great tips 🥺 I'm on a budget and I feel good knowing that I don't need to spend that much money on it after all! Thanks a lot!! Although I do think I'll still buy the led lights for aqua plants after all 😅
I really want to start a tank 😭 but I’m really hesitating because we often travel for 2-3 weeks... my husband has a cafe so we might put it there but I’m not sure I’m really trusting the staff to take care of it while we’re not here 🤔
you can get auto feeders and do big cleanups when you are home.
Anouk Surmenian Are you Armenian?
You might be able to ask the employee's if anybody is particularly interested because you never know who is absolutely happy to take on the responsibility
I like how the rounded lamp finishes the roundness of the setup, especially next to the boxed style next to it. Good contrast!
It’s upsetting that this bowl is no longer available online to buy 😭😭
Any bowl of that size is fine
I heard fish go crazy in a bowl aquarium... square or rectangular is better
How to eradicate algae in moss??
U used kitchen ware everywhere else so why didn't u just use a blender to crush the soil? 😂
I absolutely love this bowl!! I am going to try this as my first one!! Your passion for your tanks is so wonderful to see! From. The plantain to the fish etc. Is contagious🧡
Excellent video, this is a really nice simple bowl scape and looks great. This isn't one of your best scapes but I think this is one of your best videos, so much great advice and information. And you using kitchen stuff and the wife comments were hilarious, we have all been there haha. And you are absolutely right about being able to put some nano fish in a bowl this size, I have 4 embers and a colony of shrimp in my planted bowl this same size and they are thriving, the fish display the exact behavior you are talking about, so active. Good luck with the UG, such a challenging plant but that would be awesome if you got it going in such a simple setup. Looking forward to more updates on this and all your other projects. I've been subscribed since you were at 5k and you have quickly become one of the best youtubers in our hobby. Well done and thanks for putting out so much great content.
cheers cody. Yeah I didnt want to do a complicated one for this bowl as the idea was to get more new people to give it a go :)
Quick question Im a total beginner. Can I build exactly this build without pump and still have some nano fish inside ? I dont want a big build just something small for my office table.
Wauw!!....
You are one magnificent looking lad!!....
I was not ready for that xD....
When you first plant the tank, how often should water changes be done and at what percents ?
50%change every few days
Soil and me don't get along at all. Every time I plant, I mess up the substrate. So after a while, I ended up gluing the plants onto the logs and rocks so that if I ever needed to do a full clean for any reason, all I'd need to do is to lift the logs and the rocks. Easy to place back in too.
Bowl looks awesome mate👌🏻🌱
cheers buddy :)

Tank looks awesome, liked the mix of voice over and normal vlog style in this one MD :D Excited for angelfish tank!
Why do you not need filters for these types of bowls?
A no filter aquarium is a horrible idea we all know how water smells if you let it sit for a couple of days this is exactly what happens to these aquariums only quicker I guess it's all right if you want to do a water change every 3 days otherwise this is a horrible idea okay it might be a good idea if you don't mind the smell of stale rotting water...
I wondered if it was possible if my water parameters from the tap are decent enough for a low tech, no c02, no ferts with fluval stratum.

Can you please explain why you baked the soil and turned it into a finer sand? Was it to get rid of extra nutrients to prevent algae?
