I got laughed at on a boxing thread for bringing up Meldrick Taylor and Edwin Rosario in conversation about Chavez Sr and Arguello`s opposition, do you think they were right? I brought up Taylor`s skill and speed and how Chavez did well in dealing with that in their classic bout, I also mentioned that Rosario was very good defensively, but I got laughed at.
I know, I know, Chavez, Sanchez, Zarate, Ricardo Lopez, Marquez, Barrera, Canto, and the list goes on and on and on........... but in my 50 years of following boxing, there has been no body, no body more beloved and revered than the unforgettable, charismatic, and superb RUBEN OLIVARES. Campeon, on behalf of all of us that saw you in your prime, we salute you. SALUD!.
hector Salcido I have 32 years old,im spanish irish and i hace to say .... R.Olivares its my favorit boxer of all time with Sugar Ray Robinsón Ali and Sal Sanchez
I think Ruben Olivares is the real GOAT of Mexican boxing, not Chavez. Yes, Chavez perhaps has more wins against Hall of Famers but Olivares has overall better resume. He fought and became the king of the toughest era in bantamweight history. Going 69-2-1 against legendary bantamweights, Imagine that! You can forget about Olivares' featherweight campaign and the guy is still great. You can't do that with Chavez. Chavez still needs his multiple divisions championship and 89-0 to cement his legacy. Olivares' Bantamweight campaign is more than enough for him.
@@fhdbsgs3964 laugh all you want but that's a FACT. Olivares bantamweight resume alone is enough for him to be recognized as the Mexican GOAT. Can you say it to Chavez's super featherweight-lightweight resume? NO! Plus Olivares fought and became the king of the toughest era of the bantamweight history.
One of the greatest in the sport of all time. He reached 62 and 0 with only 3 wins by decision ! Think about that he KOd and beat guys so bad they quit for 59 of his first 62 fights! Stunning punching power from a Bantam weight. He retired with 89W 13L 3D and 79 KOs. Ruben Olivares has a special place my boxing heart along with Manuel Ortiz, Jesus Pimentel, Vicente Saldivar and Solomon Garcia. The Old guys that fought to get title shots in and OUT of the ring. Many greats that have come out of Mexico, Ruben Olivares is certainly in my top 10 all time.
When Olivares won the Bantamweight title from Lionel Rose in 1969 I cried. I was not quite eight years old. It was the first world title fight I ever saw.
A great fighter! Look how how he is always relentlessly attacking ... & throwing knock out bombs with both hands! Incredible power ... & the heart of a lion!
Was at a barbershop not to long ago, I struck up conversation with an older gentleman while waiting my turn. We got talking about boxing and great boxers. He brought up Olivares and how when he was a teen he would go see him train in Acuña, Coahuila. He told me stories of his fights and going to go see him. Had it not been for this man I, a 20 yr old aspiring boxer, would of never heard of this man.
56 fights .. 56 wings , 54 by KO,, he do more that 100 fight in his carer great fight and marvellous left hand...he loos his undefeated record whit other great Mexican fighter I think chucho castillo or Rafaela Herrera...his first opportunity to became a champion ofthe world came when he was 22 years old whit profesional record of 51 fight whit 51 wings , 49 by Ko , 1 draw..
El Puas!! amazing fighter one of the all time greats, interestingly Marcos Maidana reminded me of a bigger version of Puas, his style, his physique, his punching power.
Can you blame the Mexican old-timers and traditionalists for not fully accepting De La Hoya, who choked vs Trinidad, after having a champion like Olivares?

Doesn’t get mentioned enough nowadays when people talk about the Mexican greats. He’s arguably the greatest bantamweight of all time and I’d put him 2nd after Chavez on a greatest Mexicans list.
Holy shit. I heard of this dude before but never checked his record. Godam how the fuck does a bantamweight have a devastating ko ratio! His hooks look like nonstop gazelle bombs!
Another great Mexican fighter..... It broke my heart when he lost to the great Arguello after being ahead in the fight but all it takes is one lucky punch and it’s over maybe he got complacent or who knows. But that being said Arguello was a great fighter and champion all respect to him.
Best Mexican bottom line. Tell that straight to Chávez battered face and he will agree 👍 💯 percent. But the hell with ethnicity. Just one of the nest boxers of all time
One of the best Bantamweights in boxing history! Devastating puncher.
haNZAgod my favourite bantamweight ever. imagine him against either Jofre or Zarate? Epic.

Eder Jofre>>>>>
Kid Azteca
His punches look so slow and floaty but they have so much bodyweight and leverage behind them. Gotta love Mexican power punchers.

He was better than Chávez and sanchez.
@@ramirosuarez4141 not sure about sanchez.

Nah, fuck ruben olivares. Hes overrated. Lost all of his biggest fights
@Omni King and he was a party animal
Arguably the most entertaining fighter of all-time and quite possibly the best to come out of Mexico.
This dude carried dynamite in every punch! Probably the greatest Bantamweight of all time.
There's something nobody mentions in the comments Olivares fought drunk allot of the times.
Olivares devasting puncher and great underrated boxer
had one of the greatest left hooks ever 💣
When Olivares won the Bantamweight title from Lionel Rose in 1969 I cried. I was not quite eight years old. It was the first world title fight I ever saw.
No shame in losing to Olivares! Rose was a national icon and one of the greatest ever bantamweights.
El "Púas" era el ídolo de Salvador Sanchez, los dos boxeadores más queridos por el pueblo de México.
Before the first fight with Chucho Castillo, Olivares' record was 61-0-1 with 57 KOs!!! Mind boggling....
And 61-0-1 against the toughest competition of the most talented era of Bantamweight history.
not only one of the best Mexican fighters ever but Olivares is arguably the greatest bantamweight EVER!
+Bmarsh, He is.
hector Salcido AGREED!
Bmarsh totally agree and could have been even better had he not become bad on the booze :(
The Olivares that demolished Lionel Rose, knocks Rigo out within 4 rounds.
What about him vs Zarate?
Thank you for posting Mr. Knockout or otherwise known as in Spanish as el púas.
