Leonard was bigger and faster but I don't think he was stronger. I think their strength was fairly even and Duran was more skillful in the clinch. I also think Duran may have thrown more compact blows. I also don't think age is much of a factor when the older fighter is 29. In fact at that age I believe the older fighter has the advantage as he has yet to physically decline which generally doesn't seem to happen to most fighters until their middle 30s and they have an edge in experience. When you combine Age and Experience 28 to 29 is probably the absolute prime for a lot of fighters. Regardless of that it is still an extremely impressive win for Roberto Duran as he moved up in weight to defeat one of the greatest Welterweights of all time in Sugar Ray Leonard.
For a boxer 28 or 29 years old is not necessarily the best age because most by then are beaten up or injured or have lost their edge. Only a select few are bette at 29 years old then at 22 years old in this very rough game.
@@frankpavan3044 yes that’s if you aren’t elite or special then you aren’t in your prime and even then most special boxers enter their primes about age 27-30 and it ends at about age 33-35

Not to mention Duran's 30 or so amateur fights before that. In most of the eras of boxing, that's a LOT of fights to be having already. Not to mention Leonard's obvious physical and athletic advantages. One of my favourite fighter. Great video.
Best head movement ever.
ray leonard said duran was the smartest fighter he ever faced and was alot harder to hit that it appeared.
Great video !
Thank you :)
A prime Duran at 135 beats Mayweather, De la Hoya, Mosley, Gotti, Ward, Mancini, Bramble, Camacho, Meldrick Taylor, and Juda. I may have forgotten a few names, but he'd beat them, too. My dream fight would have been Duran vs Savador Sanchez. That would have been a classic. At 147, he beats them all also, but only if he was in shape. I also would have love to see him fight Aaron Pryor, but he skipped the Jr welterweight division. Duran was the only fighter to go the distance with a prime Marvelous Marvin Hagler, and Duran was past his prime, that speaks volumes. And to think, we got a chance to see him do it live. Living legend!
thanks for the video, thanks for the music - remix of "dont turn me away "
