  • This is how to remove a no-caulk No Caulk shower or tub drain. You must have access to both sides to replace the entire fixture. I recommend a Dremel with a flexhead or snakehead device and a carbide ball tip cutter. A good light source, GOOGLES, and a leather glove. Keep in mind the Dremel cutter will want to jump and cut best in one direction and jumps going the other depending on which side of the flange and rotation of the cutter. Best of luck, always follow the manufactures suggestions and if you are not that handy call someone that is and pay them. Unless your drain was recently changed or you are very lucky it is easier to cut the nut. But by all means try the wrench first.

Oh man, I can feel your frustration. It's amazing to me that we can have over a hundred years of plumbing with modern showers and yet on Wingtite has come up with a top down install for shower drains. The rest are basically no different from kitchen sink drains.... and do those leak? yeah, but you always have access to the freaking under side.
It's insanity man. I'm on a concrete slab..... and the funny part is that it was just a gasket dislodged slightly. but because I had to loosen it.... either I rip out the shower or replace the perfectly fine drain with a Wingtite.

Monolithic slab pours are the worst plumbing repairs. I love it where a jacuzzi tub is installed and then tiled completely with zero access on a slab. Break and retile to repair.
