The one thing you can tell about Diane Russini is she is pedal to the floor which is probably a good trait for a senior insider to have. She doesn't mind putting absolutes on things like 0 confident hope for the Giants and 9 for the Bears. She has no fear about being wrong. Of course there will be times that she is wrong (I doubt her batting average is that much better or worse than other NFL analysts), but she'll never let a fear of being wrong slow her down.

In terms of my expectations of Caleb Williams going forward, I think there is a pretty wide outcome of possibilities. I have written before I think a lot of the Bears O-Line troubles were attributable to Caleb. That said I also agree with the offensive structure probably put too much on Caleb's plate as a rookie and that contributed to his struggles.
I listened a Commanders podcast with Logan Paulsen and they did a mailbag. A question for Logan was "you usually say it takes 3 years for a team to really get down an offensive system, could we see that in year 2 next year in Washington because the VR stuff is speeding up the learning process for Jayden". Logan's answer was no, it will still take three years. First he said, the QB understanding is a very important piece of a team really getting comfortable in an offensive system, but its still only 30% of the equation. O-Line have to learn to widen or shorten their splits against certain defensive fronts, receivers have to learn similar type things, even the coaches have to learn what they can and cannot get away with given their personnel. Its a whole team thing not just a QB thing. The other thing he said is they kept some stuff off Jayden's plate this year. They showed restraint and they will likely continue to show restraint because they understand implementing stuff well is more important than the quantity of how much they implement.
With Chicago it just feels like they put too much on his plate. Shane Waldron thought he could put as much on Caleb's plate as he had on Geno's plate in 2023. But Geno was a 10 year veteran and that was Geno's third year in the system.
All that said, I think Caleb's issues playing within structure, did show some in college. There is 3.27 second time to throw stat in college. Caleb's O-Lines at USC surprisingly struggled much like his line in Chicago had surprising struggles. Some good QB's like Jalen Hurts and Kyler Murray only ever become so good at playing within structure. And thus I kind of set a realistic floor for Caleb in the Kyler Murray/Jalen Hurts range. But that is his realistic floor. His ceiling is still Mahomes. And he can finish anywhere in between. Given that Murray and Hurts are franchise QB's, I think its almost a given that Caleb ends up a franchise QB. But there is nothing to say that he won't end up like Trevor Lawrence a generational QB who is a borderline top 10 QB, who never quite lives up to the expectations. On the other we saw two super talented QBs in Lamar Jackson who struggled as a rookie in 2018 and Josh Allen who struggled as a rookie and second year player in (2018 and 2019) develop their ability to play in structure and decision making and become bona fide superstars. Caleb's tools are just as good as their tools so the ceiling remains very high for him. So a wide outcome of possibilities remain in play.

Herbert and Burrow IS NOT THE SAME.

Agreed, Burrow is in the top tier of the Big 4. Herbert is below that and the gap between the tiers is large.

I'm optimistic about the Bears but man they really built their roster in reverse. Left the trenches for last I will never understand that
