We would sing the sleep country jingle on the playground at school, I ended up buying my mattress somewhere else 15 years later, but it still sticks in my head.
I’m binging his videos to preface. Technically, the United States has only lost a single war but there’s a heavy asterisk in that. The one I’m referring to is the Powder River War . Let’s start with the easy stuff, a lot of wars ended in a draw and is just dependent on what you consider victory or defeat. The war of 1812 would fall into this category. The last time the United States was at war was in wwii. Korea, Vietnam, etc have technically not been a war even though in practice they were. I believe the last country they formally declared war on was Hungary in 1942, though I could be wrong about that. It’s a similar sentiment to the “Korean war is still going on.” Because it’s technically true but that’s just because laws are complicated. Going back to Powder River, just a few years later the United States fought and achieved their goals that they were unable to achieve in the first war. so that could also be interpreted as one long war with a break in between similar to the Chinese Civil War that got interrupted by wwii (though Powder River was a defeat and not an interruption and the us just went back later so it would be hard to argue an interruption case for the us there). Now if you want to add to the loss count you could add the Confederate States of America because it’s technically “America” and that’s what you said, not the United States. Though that obviously isn’t what you’re referring to, but I’m using the language you used to help illustrate how layman definitions differ from historical and governmental definitions and how that can change the answer. It’s an interesting topic because it’s open to interpretation and highlights how weird and complicated this stuff can be. It wouldn’t be false to say “the United States have never lost a war,” but it doesn’t really paint the whole picture. Depending on your interpretation they could’ve lost 0, 1, 2, or up to about a dozen (I think it’s about that many that ended in a draw).
