Of all the cars that I’ve seen in person on this list, I’d have to say the Lola T70 has by far the loudest sound that’s graced my ears. Those things in real life are ear piercing, one flew by the pits at Imola when I was right there on the edge of the track and my ears were ringing for minutes! Those things ain’t no joke, plus you feel the rumble of the v8 in your soul, it’s definitely a full body experience hearing one of those.
For transport yes (though Bicycles and Mass transit are the REAL environmental options, electric cars are still a product of individualistic consumerist madness*). For racing, combustion (and hybrid) is forever. Specially as they develop new synthetic fuel with even higher octanage and better performance. As much as I have (some) fun watching Formula E, what I feel is nothing compared to real races. * Though The Porsche Taycan is a selfish consumerist madness I would love to sign up for if I had the money...

Those thousands of racing categories you've mentioned is probably casual at best, or even amateur levels. Also, no, manufacturer leaving F1 would result in the death of the sport. You seemingly only get the entertainment side, not the economy side. Them even losing one of the three big manufacturer would result in them losing massive amount of profit which could see them going into recession. There probably won't even a chance for a fairer competition, the sport could simply just folded if say, Ferrari pulled out. It's just becoming that expensive. Someone absolutely have to find a way that allows combustion engine racing to be as carbon neutral as electric racing. Synthetic fuel could do it, but it's still a long way until every motorsport uses it.
Kami Sama ...i don't think electric racing is carbon neutral, just the carbon isn't visible... it isn't there at the venue... As un-exciting as e-racing are this will probably be the end of motorsport at high level. Just amatorial motorsport will survive and, in my humble opinion, that is the best motorsport you can have today. (No, it is not the demolition derby...)

Bozzy. Do you know any of the lap times or top speeds? I don't think people realize how fast the old cars were. Porsche, ran over 220 MPH at Watkins Glen in qualifying trim!! This was in the GTP days. Insane power!
I recognize 3 cars that I really like. The Bora, Daytona and the Europa. Im still looking for more to add to my collections. You have to brake really hard on the first turn from 6th gear for the very slow 1st gear chikane but Monza is one of my favorite tracks.

Not 100% sure but historic probably means 'replaced by newer models' or 'not in any current FIA races' or something similar
