They are still using it, and the last time it was in production was in the S65 model, imo it's the best amg engine manufactured alongside the 6.2 V8

@@v12-s65 yes, it's the same V12 but hasn't been tuned by amg, in the SL65, S65, G65, was tuned by amg, not in the Maybach

Well it went all fubar after all the C43 C53 and so on.
@@kanervatienah cmon, the 43 was a decent engine just like the 53. Remember, the C32 AMG was a thing with the W203.
Calling the M139 C63 is the real point where it got fubar. Shoulda left it at C43 and C45 ePerformance.
But hey, noone buys those cars really so that's a good thing. Källenius managed to ruin the entire brand in such a short time that he should be given a medal in all honesty. Meanwhile BMW offers proper cars with polarizing design but that works out really well for them.

Yea his gears are very long. If it had one more gear it would fly like a real plane. But because of 1000Nm of torque it would blow up
the r230 remains the best looking modern SL imo, and solid as a rock above 300

you can mount full black series body kit on standard sl500 and make simple visual conversion and maintaing v8 5.0 at the same time instead of v12 which owners know how expensive in service in can be. win win

The most unique sounding V12 there is .
In fact I can't think of another twin turbocharged V12 that doesn't have this engine. Very bassy and deep noted, due to the undersquare cyclinders, SOHC, twin turbos and low revving.
**Edit BMW 760 LI bi turbo V12 also used by Rolls Royce, and Aston's 5.2 TT V12.

Ich bin 1987 geboren; 1987 kam ein Auto auf dem Markt. Als ich anfing, zu verstehen, was Autofahren bedeutet und was man alles mit so einem Auto machen kann, habe ich mich auch in die Marke BMW verliebt. Und ein Model hat es mir besonders angetan: der 34 520I. Gleiches:n Baujahr wie ich. Für mich das schönste Auto der Welt. Klar war dann aber auch, dass ich Mercedes absolut nicht mochte. Dann fing ich meine Ausbildung an und habe einen kennengelernt, der schon zum Anfang der Ausbildung mit einem Mercedes kam. Aber nicht einfach irgendein Mercedes, es war der E55 AMG. 😅 Und ab da habe ich zum ersten Mal auch dieses Gefühl gehabt, scheiße, sieht der geil aus. Lufthydraulik und alle so ein Schnickschnack hatte der. Na ja, um auf den . zukommen. Die Karre ist, wie du beschrieben hast. 😉🙂 Und wer kennt es nicht, bei 300 nochmal zu schalten. 🤣

Still a monster to this day! Had it not been for the laggy 5 speed auto gearbox, this would have easily done 215+ mph

I remember reading many critiques of the SL65 AMG BLACK and the phrase “too much horsepower for the chassis” surfaced regularly. I still love the look of it’s wide-body though.
Edit : When the front track is straight, the steering wheel is suffering from right-hand-down.

Still my favorite Mad AMG from that era, perhaps only second to the CLK-GTR. That said, this you could actually daily with slightly less fear of fellow motorists disrespecting your machine. Love the lines, the engine, everything about it screams Mythic Beast.

Dein Fahrstil ist wie meiner. Schnell aber sicher und ohne negative Kommentare von Personen an denen man vorbei gefahren ist.
So kann sich auch die Allgemeinheit über Sportwagen freuen.
Just a RennTech Plug in ECU Tune and Green Filter Co. air filters unlock another 100hp. To get all 761hp down at that point demands nothing less than Michelin Cup'2's. Because obviously traction handicapped all SL65's effectiveness. Another reason the R230 generation was peak SL.
