I got the app immediately when I saw his video, tried it for a few minutes, didn't like it and uninstalled it. I just concluded it's not for me. Everything that was wrong about the app has been raised and he stepped up and addressed it. He got a few things wrong for his first product but he's passionate and is determined to work on it. I can respect that.
At first I disliked the video for "drama posting", but then I actually watched till the end, and I appreciated your level-headed approach, where you actually said that Marques can buy 5 Porsche tomorrow and his bank account won't feel it. Some people are just delusional and jealous that a successful entertainer and businessman can buy a car of his dreams XD

You don't have to defend Marques coz you're a fan of his, we've also been watching him from the start. He clearly got greedy. His 50% share isnt fare, other services give 70% - 95% in the case of OF to creators, Even you know UA-cam give you a better percentage. Then again running ads that display other wallpaper ads is a laugh. Also running ads does not make people to buy the premium product... has it occurred to you there are people who are just not able to pay for the premium app? You are making the same mistake he has, you need to approach your defense from a wider angle. Ask yourself if someone else released the app as is and Marques reviewed it, would he dunk on it? Absolutely. So he already knows what's wrong with it. The feedback he's gotten back is the basics of any developer, did he even read his own terms and conditions about data collection? Obviously not. All this tells me he did not give his own app the same level of scrutiny as he would other people's tech and that is greed or corruption or both
Most of the initial reactions were just latent hate waiting for an outlet. Granted the price is absolutely preposterous and he may be out of touch a bit there but it wasn't a terrible app. Selling wallpaper in itself isn't unheard of - Xiaomi has what seems to be a steady healthy wallpaper and theme store for years now. I do agree with comments about the "golden rule" hypocrisy too but the avalanche of hate went way over the top. It all felt very personal. This was the Humane pin/ Dyson headphones/Fisker ocean/Rabbit Ai fans revenge tour. He has been needlessly harsh with the headlines on those reviews or at least the headlines, and is kinda turning into a bit of an Apple hater even though he has a level of access there that many would dream of: so there has bern some brewing resentment over stuff like that I guess. People wanted to kind of "humble" him or take him down a notch for all that stuff. He will live to fight another day - I'm glad he managed to take it on the chin. I didn't like where the whole thing went, that's the type of stuff that makes a person spiral into mental health issues - what do his cars have to do with anything, that was just WTF, and dudes stripping down the code for the app and giving away the wallpapers - it was basically a nerd community lynching.
What do you mean wallpaper-apps were never really good? Back in the day, Zedge, which probably was the most popular one, was fine. Both for wallpapers as well as ringtones. It's completely messed up now, but it used to be good. Same with Wall-e. Well, not the same, since that's still good, and I like Tapet as well, even though the concept is a bit different.
