It also safes a lot of people money... People who potentially would have invested more, customers who woulda payed 700 bucks and the list goes on. Its a good thing, that bad products get filtered out of the market asap. It would only be immoral, if marques would intentionally make bad reviews for a good product just to hurt a company. You can still have a sucessfull business even if you do a bad product. As long as you take the feedback into consideration and improve, you can still survive. Better know it early if you did trash so that you can salvage your product, rather than too late and wonder why your customers are gone.
MKBHD is already pretty tame when it comes to criticism by UA-cam standards. Blaming a reviewer for a failing company is like blaming the weatherman for the hurricane
You're right but the analogy is very dumb lmao. A negative review can convince people not to buy the product. A hurricane would occur whether the weatherman reported it or not
He hasn't been tame. I'm mostly upset about what happened to Fisker, a company really dedicated to sustainability. He's holding start ups to the same standards as mega corps, and the start ups have to deal with the biggest name in tech outright rejecting their product. I don't expect new companies to create products as good as something Apple or Google makes, so I'm more forgiving when a company that has a great cause doesn't get it right the first time. I don't blame him for sharing his opinion, but there isn't even a chance for these companies to improve. It just makes me feel sad.
It's absolutely insane that they thought people would replace their iphone with a trash product that has: * 4 hours of battery life * trash camera quality * AI that's slower than Siri * No apps...
This is the reason I watch MKBHD videos, I trust the information he’s giving and the ability it gives me to make a decision. Sometimes I’ll buy a different product bc it better serves my needs based on the information reviewers like mkbhd give.
@rohanc.8402 best comment ive seen in a long time. Cant agree more. Information is valuable and honestly is rare online. MKBHD is fair but honest. Exactly as you've said, I've brought from him and been turned away too. If companies are upset by honesty and truth, they need to look at themselves.
He quotes "First, do no harm" as if its a rule. That quote comes from the oath doctors take. That dude needs to stop and realize reviewing products is not like being a doctor.
That's how some people function nowadays. The truth hurts their feelings, so some company's or country's make sure to push censorship or hell, saying a man can't be a woman hurts people's fragile feelings
to me the Humane company and the pin give off major vibes of “we don’t actually care to be an independent tech company, we just wanted to make proprietary tech and hope that a bigger company buys us and uses our tech in their tech”. the pin being 700$, and the required 24$/month subscription for it be usable all show signs of a startup with a clear goal of just hoping to be bought out

Tell that to all the employees who will now be laid off because of these reviews. What will they be telling their families? Why do they have to suffer?

If this thing was good this could have been the only exception, because it needs a chatGPT premium subscription and a data plan to function as advertised and because neither of those things have a one-time fixed price, they cannot offer a one-time fixed price (just like how a phone cannot function as advertised without a subscription to a cell service provider) but this product that's being discussed in this video is more expensive than my phone and my phone can do anything that product can do as good or better and as far as the subscription is concerned with this phone I'm not locked into one option for the required subscription

I feel like the companies response to bad reviews is what kills them - customers tend to be quite forgiving if the company proves it's addressing issues in an open and honest manner
Exactly, we, both the product designers and the consumer want the product to succeed. Who wouldn't want a brand new piece of tech that changes the world in a way that was completely unimagined. But if the product doesn't deliver its promised features, we don't as consumers owe it to company to stick up for it after failures and pamper it like a child. It's a ruthless world out there. And if one bad review, however notable that maybe, crashes your company, then maybe the foundations weren't so solid in the first place.
The Humane AI Pin in specific, it seems to me, is bad by design. It's not really about issues, it's supposed to be this way and work this way. I don't think they will improve much of anything. Maybe some small stuff like the response time of requests, but even then, they knew it would be like this from their own testing, obviously. They either can't or don't want to do much about it. They still decided to release their product like this, including the much more fundamental things flaws. That's why I have no pity for them.

Marques, in case you read this, I have been watching all your reviews of products since your review of Blue Spark Microphone back in 2013. I have found your point of view to be put together in a way as to help me make a decision between products when I do not have the luxury of trying out different ones and find which one suits my need. In the world where everything is driven by incentives, I find your approach honest, refreshing and welcome. Thank you for being honest, calling out everything as it is. I am looking forward to a future where reviewers like you set the presedence for honesty on the internet. The whole world would count on that. Thank you for all you have been doing for past 15 years, very grateful for that. Onwards and upwards!
The issue of honesty for me is a fundamental factor in MKBHD reviews. I always notice that the products he presents were actually used by him, the Cybertruck review and foldable smartphones were an example of this. I even remember the video where he complained about the delay in delivering the Cybertruck, in which if he had bought Tesla shares it would have been better. I think this honesty is the most valid point of the entire channel. I live in a country where the vast majority of product reviews are biased because they were "sent" by companies. MKBHD allows us to see these products through the previously calculated "noise" of these companies composed of almost inspirational videos of use or suspicious techdemos. Continue your work!
I assume you didn't watch his steamdeck review. He barely touches gaming (typically console) and proceeded to tell PC gamers it was unfinished...lol. He is far from an authority on topics. He could have easily left it to someone more capable and knowledgeable.
Concerning the Steamdeck and his lack of gaming hardware knowledge, which I do agree with, was he wrong though (at the time of the product's release)? He was not the only one who said what he said.
@@m.pixelated He was wrong about a bunch few things in the first few minutes like valve and hardware support. 1. He stated the steam controller was a flop/abandoned. (it still gets updates but the lawsuit on haptics killed it SCUF / Corsair) I got one. 2.Steam link hardware has been replaced by software and can run on any capable PC connected on a network. But it still works fine as i have one. 3. Valve Index is still being sold 4. At the time of review he mentioned steam machines that were not made by valve so they cant be faulted by hardware not produced, maintained by them. He played 2 games DIRT and NBA 2k..... A large number of games are compatible even without the deck verified designation but he played....2 games for a gaming console review.🙄 Incorrectly thought a controller needed to be mapped to work when he can either map it himself or find community controls in a few button presses. Thought the battery is closer to 2 hours when simple tweaks can easily extend playtime and if you are just running the system full tilt there is a diminishing return on the battery. Funny enough the Steam deck had a larger library of working games than the PS5 , Xbox or switch at the time. Now it's even larger. (not even going to include the back catalog of 10's of thousands of emulated console games) So he does not get a pass as he had qualified staff that could have reviewed it and he was not qualified to. So he was FAR from right in his "review"
Just in: Fisker stock price goes down YET AGAIN right after MKBHD’s viral video, “Do bad reviews kill companies?” Marques is out there to cook and he is NOT impressed.
Keep it up Marques. In this world, we need more people who care about the individual more than the companies. "All that any honest review actually does is just accelerate what ever was going on." Gold.
Bro, you are literally the world's most important consumer advocate. You are a utility. The lens of truth you, especially, and other notable reviewers provide to the public are the few trusted resources we have against the endless onslaught of advertisement, fact cherry picking, exaggeration, and misinformation. What your initially humble mission has become is now bigger than any of us. Will a bad review ruin a company? Sure, if their product sucks, if they've missed the mark, if they aren't actually ready for market. A spotlight on your channel is the best highlight luck could grant a start-up company. Carry on.
The funny thing is that people like you have said such things against others before they're denounced. Use your brain instead of mindlessly following someone because they don't like something. Everyone doesn't like something. The fact you're blindly following this guy is telling of your intellectual capacity. Take his words into heart? Yeah. But preaching it like your comment is just weird. So weird.

Pretty sure that was never the issue (at least the posts I have seen). It was about intentionally making a clickbait title when the actual review showed it's nowhere near the worst product. He himself admits the hardware was pretty impressive engineering considering its size. It's also a first-generation product in completely new category. I can bet he will never do this with a company like Tesla or Apple, since the backlash will be orders of magnitude stronger.
It's one step closer to a capitalistic dystopia when people are convinced giving fair - even if they're negative and 'bad' - reviews of products people spend their hard earned money on is somehow a bad thing to do.
@@gfys756Yes, we should never criticise any product ever, our only purpose is to Consume. Consume. Consume. Consume. Seriously though, this is ridiculous. Constructive criticism of decent products yields good products, and negative reviews of trash helps prevent people from accidentally buying trash (and funding the production of even more trash). The entire point of a free market is supposed to be that companies compete for business by making good products and services, and they *should* die if they're bad, that's the point. And a critical requirement for that process to work properly is that buyers need good information about the products and services so they can accurately pick the best option, otherwise it all just falls apart and we all wind up with junk.

@@sciteceng2hedz358 here's the problem though, there's a lot of pieces of software that are a one-time install, and then there are no further costs to the owner of said software that do require a subscription and that's completely stupid. That's purely so they can make more money and there's no actual justification for it, this is one of the few products I would disagree with this person's approach because a it needs a data plan and that requires long-term maintenance and upkeep to keep cellular data a thing, and it also requires a chatGPT premium subscription, which is another thing that has ongoing costs to the owner, but even if this was a good product, anything this can do your phone can do better. So what's the point?
No, subscription services are a way for greedy companies to milk more money out of customers *cough BMW*.

Which includes any investment whether financial or other, in the company making the product under review.
There's actually a court case ongoing from Tesla against Top Gear because how badly they reviewed the Model S (basically Clarkson is biased against electric cars, and that transpired towards the review).

Saw a Video about your review on C&TN, and the grief you received for an honest review of a less than prime time ready product . Anyway without even seeing your review, you have my respect for being truthful about the products you review. Too many creators are on this platform cheerleading for their sponsors, and misleading those that view their content. You have my respect and subscription. Thanks for the honesty and looking forward to your content.....
NEVER stop giving honest, blunt reviews. Please.
post bad review and prepare to defend agaisnt lawyers for defamation
@@cibularas3485what defamation? Trash product is trash product
You are where you are on YT for a reason. If you gave out false reviews and weren`t honest people would not subscribe and continue to watch. Your style of review and honesty whether it is good or bad is what we as consumers want to see.
Dude!!! You are so unbiased, technical, and stoic in your reviews, stay honest. This is an opportunity to spread your influence. Best UA-cam reviewer
that's why your fan base is almost 19 mil subscribers. You're reviews are always insanely good and at top of that honest. Benefiting from that for a long time my man
Marques, in case you read this, I have been watching all your reviews of products since your review of Blue Spark Microphone back in 2013.
You summed it up perfectly! I agree 100%
3. Valve Index is still being sold
4. At the time of review he mentioned steam machines that were not made by valve so they cant be faulted by hardware not produced, maintained by them.
He played 2 games DIRT and NBA 2k..... A large number of games are compatible even without the deck verified designation but he played....2 games for a gaming console review.🙄
Incorrectly thought a controller needed to be mapped to work when he can either map it himself or find community controls in a few button presses.
(not even going to include the back catalog of 10's of thousands of emulated console games)
So he does not get a pass as he had qualified staff that could have reviewed it and he was not qualified to. So he was FAR from right in his "review"
Just in: Fisker stock price goes down YET AGAIN right after MKBHD’s viral video, “Do bad reviews kill companies?”
Marques is out there to cook and he is NOT impressed.
@@hawtdayum the steam controller is a flop. It suck in generally
Keep it up Marques. In this world, we need more people who care about the individual more than the companies.

Carry on.
Well said!!
Lol a utility. You make him sound like a tool
So weird.
@@TheCuriousNoob LOL! Well said! 🤣
mkbhd has reached the point where he's hit the mr beast syndrome and people are getting mad at him for not having cured cancer or solved world peace yet
Unfortunately any time you say anything negative people will act as if you personally hurt them.
With a side of world hunger prevention. Don't forget that one.
This guy has a point
What an awful guy, curing people's blindness
There is a bit of nuance to that, I've been seeing the Mr beast didn't do enough rage is seemingly misplaced "why is this NEEDED. Why must the rich solve our problems, why are they not solved by those who are paid to?" Rage tbh
You're literally the only honest reviewer I trust. Keep doing you! Fake good reviews scam consumers
5:48 Sometimes I do come back to your (and other reviewers’) videos a few years later when looking to buy an older high-end or refurbished product from 2-3 years ago. I also appreciate reviewers that come back to products a year or two after with an update.
Consumers deserve to know the truth and we love MKBHD because he would never compromise honesty for brand or monetary reasons. Keep doing what you do Marques!
Bro never stop doing what you doing we appreciate your honesty, not all products and companies are meant to exceed.
Bad products at high prices hurt ignorant consumers, $70k for a EV is expensive, $700 + $25 pm for a concept of a finish product is ridiculous, we all like the idea if implemented well, but paying that much for a desc weight is ridiculous. @MKBHD please continue giving us honest reviews, we appreciate it!(from an average joe)
Trick more fools, get insane amount of money, try again with new product, repeat forever
this is how all of this bs works
people should just call the ai pin for what it is: a kickstarter scam.
I'm an old tech head (Military Computer Operator 1987-2002) and I sub'd, watched, and liked EVERY one of your vids before you graduated HS to get your algorithm up because of THE WAY you reviewed products. Honestly, and with true passion/interest. Bad reviews don't kill companies. Honest reviews about bad products kill companies. DON'T CHANGE A THING!!! Because it's what got you here. And if it ain't broke.....
Paid Good Reviews = Twitter don't find it an issue
Honest Bad Reviews = Twitter gets angry
True
That's why you don't take twitter seriously. Twitter is just home for idiots who think their opinions matter.

Bad reviews give companies an opportunity to do two things...
Improve or End
Exactly!!!!!
It's one step closer to a capitalistic dystopia when people are convinced giving fair - even if they're negative and 'bad' - reviews of products people spend their hard earned money on is somehow a bad thing to do.
It's called being a hater, bro. Stop judging people who make your products.
And a critical requirement for that process to work properly is that buyers need good information about the products and services so they can accurately pick the best option, otherwise it all just falls apart and we all wind up with junk.
bood
time to make new words for mixed up emotions of Tantrums that have some value to some one but not all.
The irony is that ideal capitalism WANTS the challenge ... it's bad capitalism and weak companies that can't tolerate competition ... or criticism.
I love how calm your reviews are, no loud music and no loud people. Keep up the good work.
I love that you didn’t back down after that guy on Twitter decided to challenge you. You have a very tough job. You have never put a company in a bad position. Your criticism gives companies a unique opportunity to improve and win over the hearts of the consumers. Knowing your track record, you will be the first to applaud them when they make improvements.
THANK YOU!!! ALL OF THIS!!!
Absolutely. 💯
