Hey Katie! Regarding the light banding issue, it’s definitely the lights you’re using, not your camera. Some LED lights use low frequency circuitry and this creates this banding or flickering effect. Usually more expensive lights use a much higher frequency driver and this way there is no flickering or banding. One thing you can try doing is changing the shutter speed on your camera, if this doesn’t help though, you need new lights unfortunately 🥲 Love your content! ❤
Omg thank you so much for posting this comment! I was having a similar problem on one of my videos and I couldn't figure it out (which isn't surprising because I'm new to cameras and filming in general). I learned something!
Great insight Katie. People follow your success on UA-cam, but most won't realize it even took you 10 years to reach 10K subscribers. Now you're doing amazing things, which is a true testament to your advice this video 👏 Extremely valuable content as always. Thank you!
Hi Katie. 12:26 really hits home. After almost a year after losing my son, I was creating just to create.l while grieving. A few days an ago had clarity and the other day that burst of inspiration, the creativity ran throughout my body. Haven’t felt that in almost a year. Thank you for sharing these tips. It was very helpful 💖
I’ve been hearing you talk about this get on the homepage concept for a while and I finally tried something out using your advice, and that video is taking off so much more than all my normal content! Thank you so much for your incredible content and advice, Katie!
I’ve been going FULL force on my editing (I would say really good at it after doing it for 14 years), titling, and thumbnails for the last couple of months and it still feels like my channel is dead. I’m curious, is there ever a time to just scrap it and start a new one?? I’ll say, that sounds terrifying because I’ve had my channel 2009. 😅
We've been moving and I haven't gotten to watch any of your videos in awhile. I've forgotten how inspiring they are and now I'm itching to get my ideas out there. Thanks for the inspo!
Dropping another tip for making the music fit!! (At least for premiere pro) Use the audio remix tool, you can drag the end of the clip shorter or longer and it’ll automatically ‘remix’ your music to fit the length that you want it). Great video as always Katie!
I haven't started my UA-cam channel yet, but I have a blog and I learn something from all of your videos that can be applied to my blog website as well! Thanks for everything you share with us 💕💕
I want to pivot so badly from a cooking channel, but having cookbooks and cookie mix as my products makes it hard. I've been doing this for 12 years and I'm so burned out. I don't make enough to even buy the ingredients to make the dishes. I truly wish someone would teach us how to be able to figure out when and if brand offers are legit. They always seem so scammie to me. Also no one offers money, just free product. I'd would like a lesson on how to negotiate a contract with a brand. I'm one of those people that can't stand any music in the background when it's a talking head video no matter what the music is.
consider me pivoting! I'm going to give this a whirl with my titles. I've been working on making my videos engaging but that didn't seem to help on it's own. THanks for the tips!
Going to get officially monetized this May, on track for 1k and 4k hours, thank you for making this! Have to gain the confidence to be more in front of the camera. Going to apply this to blow mine up for further growth🔥
Hey Katie! I have three tips regarding the light banding (you've probably already tried these but thought I would share anyway. Here's what works best for me: - Adjusting my shutter speed (1/100 works best for me in Europe) - Changing between NTSC and PAL (two types of color encoding systems) in the settings of my SONY ZV-1. That does however require reformatting my card every time. Some say NTSC works best in America and PAL best in Europe, but I find it depends highly on the devices/lights I want to record. I can film my phone screen best without flickering on NTSC but have to switch to PAL if I want to record my fridge for example. So it's a good idea to do some testing. - Another tip: CapCut has a nice feature that lets you remove flickers. It's not 100% perfect, but it vastly improves the image quality!
Your lighting looks AWESOME!!! I’m drinking peach 🍑 herbal hot tea 🍵 💋 loving this video so far. The concept of coming up with catchy titles and then hooking it to a video concept is genius
Hi Katie:) Thank you for these infos. One thing I am really struggling is the voice editing currently. I realized we are using the same Rode micro but your voice sound so crisp and professional. I would personally love to see you make a video about that.
thank you for your words, and advice! I'm starting my channel and I have some videos, I live in Bryan tx and I want to just constantly film but something I get discouraged and don't film case I feel I don't live in a huge city, but I'm gonna get better on it, I love shopping and handbag so here I don't have that lol, but I am only 1 1/2 hrs away from Houston, Austin, etc so its just the driving etc etc that make me discouraged,. thank you for everything.
I think the banding issue is due to the shutter speed of the camera in conjunction with how fast the LEDs flash in the apartment. I've found a shutter speed of 1/80 fixed my issues and I adjusted the ISO and FStop accordingly to get the right brightness.
problem is even at 1/30 there is still slight banding and at that shutter speed the motion blur makes it unusable. it's not something I can fix with shutter speed 🙈
I keep dreaming to have a place what you have right now.. it's like dream come true, a right place to start and create your dreams and make your ideas come to live❤️
Hey Katie love your channel - the banding has to do with the lights, not the camera. Most cheaper lights and LEDS pulse at a frequency rate that doesnt match with your shutter speed and this causes that affect! So don't worry about the camera being messed up or anything 😄 It's def the lights fault.
Sup Katie! Changing the shutter speed should fix the banding from the lights, I was getting the same issue on my ZVE10 and too fast or too slow shutter speed was the culprit. Cheers!
This is such a great video with lots of valuable ideas Katie, and very timely too because my channel is in a rut and just won't grow. The tip about using different music for each point sounds great so I'll try that in my next video.
Always love your videos on how to make our channels better. I still have lots to learn and expand on and your videos always give me fruit for thought❤ thank you. I still want to include story blocks but it’s going to be once I reach my goal of 444 subs. I’ll use your link for sure when I reach my goal so I had better get those subs by end of May. I’m a vlogger so it’s going slow, good thing I have endurance on my side. You gave me a good idea I’m going to try on next vlog…as a full time content creator. Have a great day! Welcome back home❤
my channel is just a couple of people away from hitting 500 subs. wohoo ( I know in the YT world that doesn't mean a lot, but for me it does :)) thanks for all your tips, Katie!
Your videos make me feel like I can do it, that I can grow my channel, and that makes it easier to sit down and get to work. Thanks! Also, hot green tea with honey ❤
When is it a good time to transition from search? I've been doing search based content but now I've been plateauing. I don't even know how to make videos that aren't just fact based lol. I would love to do some storytelling but don't know how.
Can anyone suggest (or could you make a video) about your process for organizing your video bank for past published videos, raw footage and B-roll? I’m not the most organic human and can easily overwhelm myself. Thanks!!
Im drinking a cranberry juice with enough ice while watching this video 😁📸. I really needed this, my video hasn't been doing so well and its getting discouraging 😊❤ I do more vlogs, what do u think katie
I am having a difficult time reaching my 3-4k views hanging out at 2800 for months now….and the commercials that UA-cam places sends everyone off my channel or to leave negative comments
Great content. Please can you make a video of the most basic needs for people wanting to start a UA-cam channel with the least financial investment in terms of equipments??
Thanks girl, this was very interesting! I always love to watch your videos . Happy greetings from one Canadian to another 🥰 and by the way , I drink a Timmy’s too ☕️😊
10 years and still not more than 10k followers and less likes. It is so frustrating. I joke and say I post in defiance now because I post to crickets. Plus I can not afford not fancy equipment. So it is what it is.
Hey Katie! Not sure if you’ll see this but I think you posted a video on how you schedule yourself as a content creator and I'm not seeing it. was it deleted or am I mistaken?
I watched this because of the title! I’m totally struggling.. 497 subscribers and suddenly the last two weeks I get zero views on everything even shorts! It is disheartening!
I feel so exposed. Not me treat copying the same song through the whole video. 😂 OK, different music vibes for different segments. Question (for Katie or whoever is game): what do you think about straight-to-camera with NO music. I’m torn. Sometimes it sounds nice and clean…but not as moody. Thoughts?
Uh-oh the point you made about some UA-camrs using the same music throughout the whole video... I'm very much guilty of that lol 😅 Definitely feeling called out, in a good way. I'll try a different tactic nex time!
Maybe it’s consistency, because I have a following on TikTok that I would have never thought possible before and that’s just because of me, no dancing 💃 lol

it's just weird because my last sony camera didn't do this, but the ZV-E10 does! so strange, but maybe I do need to change my light bulbs RIP haha
@@katie This is a common issue with mirrorless cameras that use electronic shutters. DSLR cameras often use a mechanical shutter...
If you're editing with Davinci Resolve Studio, you could correct this in post.
@@katieI had the Sony ZV-E10 & it had the flickering problem too. I’d never experienced that before with my Canon cameras. So I sold the camera.
Thank you! I’m over 40 and just started my channel so I’m learning like a sponge!

it would help to add diffusion in front of your key light. A 5-in-1 reflector is $30 and a stand for it is $12 on amazon.
Thank you for this, your content really moved us to keep going on UA-cam.
Storyblocks has been such a great addition to my workflow. I’m working on a video around building and shooting a Broll library as a small creator. ❤
