The irony I find is that I actually watch your videos for the chill, calming vibe while I get ready to start work for the day, or when I need some focus to get preparing my content. Obviously I find huge value in your content and have definitely found myself implementing things you've mentioned, but I am definitely here for the vibes and for you. I'd watch anything you made tbh.
I started following Katy over a year ago. I think she along with similar creators, gave me the motivation to start! I’ve started about 5m or so ago and still watch her and end up watching her whatever she posts 😊. She’s great 👊👌 Hopefully my current UA-cam channel will kick off at some point. I have the content so will just roll it out
i have no choice to transition from what was helpin me but I was smart to setup everything before I did im small channel but i have sponor im bout work with and I am lucky my family owns all gaming companies cause of that I was even offered to partner with Minecraft since roblox is dyin it's not easy journey either
This is basically what I have been trying to do with my podcast - it was in the back of my mind but I couldn’t articulate what I was doing! I have a “niche” for sure but I’m gonna talk about what I want to! All this super strict “niche advice” of the last five years for all types of creatives is so BORING
I feel like it locks you in as well. It makes it harder to shift if that niche dies down. That's the struggle I had starting a podcast too and therefore it kept me from posting at all.
@@Im_AshParker i heard someone say that you are the product, your personality, vibes whatever... no one can copy that if you are your authentic self. everyone can copy a niche tho. so just be yourself and people that like you will watch whatever you create :)
@@Im_AshParker don’t let it stop you! I’ve started and my idea is beauty education but then I also have other “hats” I’m going to pull from to keep things interesting too- that way I don’t get bored 🥱 I figure if I get bored then no one will want to listen anyway. Start your show and don’t let anything stop You. One step at a time…
Your video has confirmed exactly what I decided today after attending a motivational conference this morning. I was on the brink of deleting old videos from my platform just so I could niche down entirely but trying to niche down took all the joy out of why I joined YT in the first place! I decided I’ll continue to let my personality shine through and even if I don’t grow as fast as other UA-camrs, as long as I stay consistent and authentic I know I’ll grow eventually because at least I get to keep my creative joy 🥰Thank you so much for this and for being honest about your journey. ❤
Winning formula is to give your viewers the thing they want to see. Being a UA-camr is business, and business owners give people products/services that people need in their life. It's practically the same. And when the growth becomes real, you can consider hiring people to help you run your channel more efficiently. The most difficult part is starting and growing of course, but consistency and hard work (with a little bit of Famester to help) will always pay off at the end. Good luck to everyone, I really hope you are all going to succeed one day.
I'm so glad you made this video. I reached about 8k subs last year, made a hard pivot and lost 2k overnight. I freaked out and went back to my original content, but i am SO BORED of it. So I'm going to boil the frog for the next year and see what happens. Thanks Katie, I had all but given up posting on UA-cam because i am not happy with my content.
🥲 That is so demoralizing to hear! I am sorry that you lost 2k overnight, that can be incredibly disheartening but please don't give up. The journey to building a 10k audience is one that is incredibly tough, keep going forward. You can do this!
Every time I’ve started a channel I’ve ALWAYS picked a niche! But this time I’m just making videos that I love and I’m having fun with it! And if I want to make videos on a certain topic I will and I’ll just make it a series instead 😂
That sounds like a vlogging type combination to me! :D As a newbie creator, I have been experimenting with different video ideas: - Morning chats - More lecture style videos - More vlogging style videos Mix and match and see what works! :D
That all, and more, sounds good to me! I would not want to watch you doing the same thing or talking about the same thing over and over and over again. We have TV news for that.
Mine is a life and times as well still fledgling but I agree with what she's saying. It doesn't feel natural when you niche down. I luv alot of things to niche down u put urself in a box .
I personally think if you follow your heart, research and trust your instinct - then you somehow create your own niche anyway without forcing to find one!
I niched down so hard on this channel and I felt trapped in my niche. So I made other channels for other interests and I feel a lot more fulfilled having different places for different parts of myself. ☺️
I think it's better to make different channels about different topics. Not combine everything into one. That way you can be niche specific and feel fulfilled at the same time.
I came to your channel for the search optimised UA-cam tips (via the homepage as I was watching a lot of them), stayed for your personality, and ended up subscribing to your van life channel, so it’s working! :)
I’m so glad I saw this! Phew. It even sounds like something I would want to do. The constant worry about keeping within a niche. I just have a general way of living my life and it works for me but a lot of single moms struggle so I just share me, my ways, what I do and what works in order to survive and thrive as a single mom striving for financial independence and homeownership
I totally agree with this! It's NOT working for me to stay niche. I have a "silent" channel but I've missed "talking", so I added talking in my most recent video even with the possibility of it not doing well...and it didn't do as well. 🤣 But, I feel like using your voice attracts those who resonate with you. That begins with your caption/title. Allow the right people to find you instead of you looking for people. 💜🙏 Thank you for this informative video.
Yes, yes and YES! That’s what I’m struggling with in past couple of months. I have this channel (and a second one tbh) and I stopped making videos cause the niche (I didn’t chose as it may seem) is not my passion. Once I got viral with my apartment tour. And then I filmed vlogs, some tips for organizing Notion, and content with my immigration process. But I want to be more than that and o was afraid I will not be understood by my audience. And maybe even YT algorithm will be confused and will not recommend my new content (UA-cam and self growth related) for new people. Thank you for inspiration, I adore you and what you’re doing. Will try to relax and slowly change my ‘niche’. Cause obviously I wanna grow here, I want to inspire others and share my life. ❤
Your post has changed a lot (for me). I recently started a second channel for "off topic" in order not to lose viewers interested in the channel's topic. If I had discovered your video beforehand, I would probably present all different topics on the first channel. thank you for this video.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I took a long break from UA-cam because of general overwhelm and starting a 9 to 5. My old content is thrifting vintage home decor for resale. While I was on my break and battling my overwhelm, I turned my whole life around, slowly becoming a minimalist - which does not go with my current channel theme. At all. My channel is still fairly small, but I decided to do a quick pivot and not easing my audience into it. Currently, I am not monetized (anymore) and at this level, it won't do any harm. I am so sad that I am not passionate about my former content, but I don't see myself doing this anymore. I uploaded one recent thrift haul video and I didn't enjoy it like I used to. It's time to change.
I think this is 100% accurate, I love it. I don't think enough of the meta-youtube realizes how important the relationship is. I really liked how you drew the comparison on transactional vs relational. And this video is also a great example for how you're doing it. subbed
there is no formula. do whatever you love, as long as you do it for passion and not for monney, cause youtube will always find a good reason to demonetize your videos one by one.
Somewhat demoralizing if you think about it, the fact that they can demonetize your videos for like no reason is super sad. That's the reason why a ton of creators are also pairing newsletters with their own UA-cam channels since all of social media is rented space.
you can lawsuit them, no matter how good are they lawyers, they're not allowed to brake the laws.. i have creative videos concept, but it involves news fair use extrat or music, everything completely forbidden on youtube, and my best videos won't be uploaded here because of that censorship.@@thelifewithnate
I don't usually comment on videos but I had to say that I feel this one in my soul. I tried to do a hard pivot on IG it didn't work so I accidentally used this strategy and it has been A LOT better. Proving again that your advice for social media growth and sustainability works. As well as building a real fan base because I clicked on the video just for the chill vibes this morning not the biz advice 🤣 like seriously if we're talking hard pivots have you ever considered recording meditations? Your voice is just so soothing 🙏🏾
I’m not even all about the content but your voice is so welcoming and soothing. If you ever think of another side hustle, you’ll be great for voice over kinda stuff. I could listen to you all day.
Loved this style of walking around the desert! ❤ I'm trying to transition myself a bit out of big, homepage/search content cause that's what I went viral for, but it's so unsustainable and overwhelming!
This is why I like being a small channel, I have the freedom to do whatever I want. Bigger channels have so much pressure to keep to the same thing and the audience expects them to stay the same for years. It’s probably one of the reasons why a lot of the big UA-camrs are retiring. It’s not about having fun anymore, it’s just about the algorithm and trying to make money.
THANK. YOU. As a multi-passionate creator, I find it incredibly stifling to "niche down." I have a podcast focused on mental health and how my passions keep me going - including my small business. I cover a bunch of topics that I'm interested in... I recognize it's harder to grow when you aren't focused on one thing, but I have to do what feels right to ME. On my UA-cam channel, I post my podcast and also small business/artist content.
Thank you for this video! I like the change in mindset approach. I have done a soft pivot when the style of videos I used to do (video game music covers) started to wane so I pivoted to video game music reactions and the success is staggeringly better. It worked for me because video game music is and has always been my passion. Now I feel an even better relational connection with my audience. I felt stupid for how long it took me to do this because my biggest hurdle was really just me, my stubborn refusal to have a change of mindset. But now that I did the change, I feel so in control and that I can do anything. Thank you for explaining everything very clearly and making me understand things I didn't know I already am doing.
Ok, I'm now binging your channel 😆I am really resonating with so much of what you're saying!!! I am a tutorial-based creator, and I really want to connect better with my audience!! It's been such a struggle. So this is perfect. I will attempt to sprinkle in touches of myself into my tutorials. I love what I do, but my growth has really slowed down, plus any brand deals I create, my viewers don't watch. I think it's because they don't REALLY connect with me. I am going to work hard to take in what you have shared, it's time for some changes 😉Thank you yet again!! Onto the next video!!!
Katie, you did a fantastic job of explaining what I have been thinking and feeling when it comes to my content. The idea of creating videos that are valuable AND that feature myself as a person has consistently felt antithetical to me. Your approach though feels like a win for us as creators and for the audience. I love the concept of moments in the video for the audience and moments in videos for me. That feels like a sustainable way to approach content creation. Also, I would love to know how you are thinking about podcasting! I saw that you are starting to upload your podcast to UA-cam. I am excited to hear about how that has been going, and what your thoughts on "clips channels" are. Some podcasts like Ali Abdaal's Deep Dive have their podcast clips on one channel. I've wondered how creators make the decisions to break up the content into two channels. Thank you so much by the way! I've very much enjoyed your content over the last few months. You're one of my favorite UA-cam tips creators. Your content is practical without using techniques that make your audience feel a sense of scarcity or missing out. The chill vibes are absolutely felt in your videos.
thank you so much Isaac! I really appreciate your kind words! That is such a good question around podcast strategy - maybe someday I'll have to make a full video on my approach, why I decided to start a second channel, how I'm experimenting with shorts - etc. There are so many decisions to make when it comes to podcasting in 2024 and it can be hard to know what to do but I feel pretty happy with the approach I'm taking so far :)
You can’t please everybody but you want to share your content with everyone. You want people to invest their time into the creator not just the content. I create and share my videos on what I want and if people like my personality, cool and if people like my content, cool but if people don’t like my personality or my content then it’s ok.
I'm here as a new subscriber to let you know your strategy seems to be working from my point of view, looking at your channel. I came across this video on my UA-cam homepage. Whatever you're doing, keep it up!
I never liked the idea of tying myself down to a niche. I much prefer having the freedom to post whatever I want. Maybe not having a niche is hurting my growth, but I feel like I would get burnt out quick if I could only post about one topic.
This video couldn’t have been more timely. Been stuck in the pivot box for like 2 years, thanks to you I now know what I must do. Keep up the great work and chill vibes 🤟
This is one of my biggest fears when it comes to UA-cam, especially as a newbie content creator. The production of videos for an optimized search as well as niching down versus publishing videos for yourself. I think that as I struggle to find what I am all about on the platform, I cover a wide range of niches from content creation to community building to having a video journal. Some perform well, others don't and that's just the reality of it. Awesome video! Glad I discovered you Kate!
This video helped me a lot. I don’t feel stuck necessarily but I’ve always wanted to open the channel up a bit. I watched the entire video and I rarely do that. You’ve made a seriously good piece of content here. 🙏🏼
Interesting....I normally watch the entire videos....this is why I look for videos that are 3 and 4 minutes long. For me it would be like starting a sentence and
I used to be a daily food and travel vlogger and now it's been tough changing the direction of the channel. I think all my videos and stories are still super well made and fun, but my old school subs won't click on the thumbnail if it's not about food. Pumping out the new content and waiting for the algorithm to not put me with street food youtubers anymore😭
Hi Katie - I watch every single one of your videos, & I think this one is particularly insightful. I love how you've articulated the very thing I've been trying to put my finger on - about why I watch all your videos - because I come for the info, but by the end, I feel like I'm just hanging out with a friend...and I even have started watching your "Katie & Dan in a Van" videos as well (love!). I am getting ready to start my own weekly UA-cam show & I have been wanting to craft my videos so they're as fun to watch as yours - I've been trying to articulate to myself what that means exactly - but in this video you've broken it all down & explained what my brain has been trying to put together. Thank you!
I struggle with worrying a out being boring...lol. I just don't know how to make sure I'm being myself...in a way that's interesting. This might seem weird, but I tend to go to 'professional' in front of the camera. I want to make interesting videos and ot be boring... HOW!?! :)
I worry about the same too! What I will try doing is to start posting a little more about my personal life (not like my life is so exciting lol). I also replied my subs message with elaborate and full of valuable information responses. I noticed people started to feel more comfortable asking questions, since they can see I reply their questions. More engagement.
You've got it @@maryannao . The UA-cam advantage is you get to speak with the channel. If I see Brad Pitt do something cool....Good luck sending a note. If I watch you walk down a street past a blue bicycle...I can tell you " We have that same bicycle" ....It is silly, but human nature makes me feel like the world is full of friends and not strangers. Now when you have Ana de Armas on your channel I can send you questions. Actually...I can send you questions now so don't bother with Ana. Maryannao is perfect
This was seriously such a variable video that came at just the right time for me. I had switched my thinking to mainly optimize for search and then incorporate vlogs etc later butttttt what you say completely makes sense. I'm just going to post what I like posting from the beginning, trying to keep a balance of both things. Thank you so much for the video!
For me, this was the right video at the right time for me. I did the transactional grind for about two years & don’t really have anything to show for it. So now I want to create what I enjoy so that I’m having fun & enjoying what I’m doing. Now I’m working on that balance to keep the growth but also enjoy the creative process.
I'm so glad I've come across this video as I've been struggling with the concept of niching, especially, as a Multi-Passionate. At least I can still work on building my channel with this in mind. That will really help moving forward. Thank you. X
This is EXACTLY the video I needed!!! 💕I made it to 10,000 subscribers uploading videos about what it's like working fully-remote as a software engineer while traveling the world. I got a lot of my subscribers from the fact that tech is a trendy topic and most of them don't care about the travel aspect of it. I am getting tired of posting videos about coding and work day in the lifes and I just want to post more about my travels and adventures but whenever I post a video like this I get super low views.... I felt like I was stuck in that "tech" box and can't get out of it but THIS VIDEO GAVE ME THE HOPE AND MOTIVATION I NEED RIGHT NOW 🙏🏻✨ I will use the strategies to pivot organically and see where it goes. I am lucky because the topic I want to pivot into is something that has been a part of my channel from the beginning but it's still not easy. Thanks so much Katie! ♥
I love that the strategy you're sharing is literally what you have been doing over the past year or more. I don't watch all of your videos, but I do see you come up pretty regularly and it's been cool to see you add more of your personality into the videos. It's fun, it's relatable, it's cute. You're definitely on the right track 😊
I think you’ve absolutely nailed the vibe you’re suggesting other people try in this video. Such a thoughtful and well structured way of expressing what so many people making UA-cam vids have experienced with a way of combatting it. Thank you 🫶
Great video and very helpful! I agree with starting to create different content from the beginning. That is how I started because I didn't want to niche down. I wanted to be authentically me and share different things because I did not want to feel stuck.
I had been ruminating on this! How to be authentic and incorporate the elements I think make my voice unique and you solved the mystery for me! Thank you!
Thank you so much for the advice Katie - this is by FAR one of the most helpful videos about "niching or not niching" and pivoting - I am a big believer in trying different formats in the beginning with a small audience, throw spaghetti at the wall and see what sticks. sprinkle your channel with different types of videos from the beginning. that way when you pivot, it's not a stark change - granted it may take longer to grow/find an audience BUT slow growth is not such a bad thing p.s. love the coffee chats and the desert sunset, enjoying an Americano ☕🪩🌵
I will still watch your videos even if you decide to pivot. I know one content creator that did that. I still watch her. I also love how she still talks about her YT journey in here videos here and there. At the end of the day it’s about you and you have to do what brings you joy
I decided that my "niche" would be hobby exploration and teaching my audience how to become better at their hobby (whatever it is), and my YT Shorts/Instagram is tips on specific hobbies I'm interested in-just started my YT channel a month ago so not sure how well it will do but honestly it doesn't feel restricting, especially since I add vlog clips of my hobbies here and there. I've always hated that I had to "niche" down, so my niche is a broad topic LOLOL
omg this is me as an ADHD person! 😂 i hate niching down and i try so many hobbies and i wanna vlog about it. but i finally settled on being a lifestyle vlogger so that i can still make it make sense in my channel. gave you a follow and looking forward to your content!
Spot on. The pivot can’t be a separate video. I do quilting, but also enjoy machine embroidery. You’d think those are sister niches, but I lose subscribers when I do the embroidery videos. It works out best when I incorporate them into the main videos. People may skip that part, but they’re still watching what they’re interested in and I’m making what I enjoy.
Great video. One community that does this mixed style approach is the indie game devs, they vlog, at the same time teach things, and at the same time promote their indie game.
I'm a published kids author trying to figure out how I want to incorporate UA-cam (and other video platforms etc) and this was SO helpful from a mindset standpoint. It's so tempting to chase the numbers but I feel like the slow growth where people are coming for me not the tutorials is so smart. Especially since I'm coming at this from a writer/author standpoint, not a video creator standpoint.
It's incredible that, recently, I made a video showing exactly that, and I'm just only starting. I love doing creative storytelling videos. That's where my creativity gets full. You can see that exactly in my UA-cam channel trailer. In my recent video, where I talked about 3 crucial questions that everyone needs to answer even before thinking about starting a YT channel, I bring this subject up. For me, it's essential we can, from time to time, change a bit our content into something more personal, something that fulfills us. And if we can do that without getting to far away from our channels niche, even better. I'm glad that, even though I'm starting this journey, to be able to see someone who is already established, to think the same way I think. Keep up the good work. Cheers.
I watched this video shortly after it came out and thought it was just like any other videos. But I've watched it again today and it makes so much more sense. I am that creator who's audience seem to come and get the information they need, then leave. I have got a bit disillusioned with my niche as I've felt that I'm a bit bored with just spewing out information. I like the more creative, vlogging side of creation. So I'm going to start pivoting. Thank you for this video, it's given me the motivation to be more creative and show more of my personality....and I do watch your other videos 😉
Unfortunately, the one for me one for them will split your audience. Your one channel would have two audiences and can be difficult to grow. Imo, niche but don't micro niche.
Hi Katie - I can verify your 'adding a bit of me' into my videos for results. My small channel was jogging along but not really growing. The change came when I started appearing in the thumbnail and the video. I now use a quick pre intro to peak interest at the start the video - then the intro and two or three midrolls. The results are in the analytics! Now for my last tip - be human! I don't do perfect. I fluff my lines and make mistakes and leave them in. As long as the message is understandable. Thank you for your take on growing a channel😃😃😎😎
I enjoy your video very much, absolutely makes sense. I do have a suggestion thoe tours end video you said was another video but No end card poped up so I can click on , unsure going to be able find that specific video. Be safe and healthy Rosa
I saved this video for later and now that I watch it I have to come to comments even though I'm no further than at 3:51. I just needed to hit pause as this was a totally mind-blowing thought. With a photojournalist background, I just realized that this is exactly my problem. I'm way too information-based. Not so much here on UA-cam but in my blogs. I share information, a LOT of information, and work hard to get all the facts checked. Then I wonder why people come and go. Why do they read only one article, why they don't like my content? Suddenly I realize that yes, they do like it, but when they come from the search engines I served them already and gave them what they needed. So I'll need to concentrate more on giving them a reason to stay with me. Yikes, I had a dream that I can rely on Google and I can get rid of the social media, but that's not gonna happen with this thought. Though in UA-cam it doesn't matter. Maybe I stop writing my blogs and concentrate more on UA-cam... Thank you so much Katie for this mind-opening thought! And now I continue watching and stop writing a novel here :D
This was so good Katie. As a strategist, I can totally look back and see how you have been subtley becoming more relational with your following and itsso inspiring. ♡
Recently I got accustomed to espresso with hot water. The secret is to wait a little bit when the boiled water cools down for 2-5 degrees so the boiled water won't break down the lipid structure. sometimes I shoot espresso right in to the glass with the hot water, so the crema will be still there.
I love this video! I think a niche is great, but I think that if you want to post other fun content, then starting a second channel works best. That way your audience can get what they came for and enjoy a separate “YOU” one another platform. Niches make money and doesn’t confuse the algorithm, thus interfering with your money and views.
This is the most comprehensive advice I've heard on changing direction with my UA-cam channel. Thanks for sharing, you've helped me decide what to do next.
Having a niche hasn’t worked for Me . I know a lot about fashion having spent over 30 yrs owning fashion businesses Yet ! After 4 yrs I haven’t been successful on UA-cam I’m about to try adding different topics
I am a new creator, and I totally appreciated this video! I think I am going to incorporate personal stories here and there in my content now. Its kinda like, when you go to the same restaurant, not just because the food is good, but you see the same friendly faces and you get to know about their life and family, etc. Thank you for this video, I needed to hear this. I subscribed and am looking forward to watching you for you! And learning more about growing my content as well..the best of both worlds ❤
I can attest to this video. I have a youtube channel that started off about gaming, and now that I've pivoted I lost many of my returning audience. I wish I seen this video sooner.
I hit play thinking I’d disagree, but turns out, I totally agree. It’s like how we do “thought leadership” in SEO. It’s all about showing you’re an expert, not just chasing ranks. However, there’s always a balance! You still need to create content that fits your SEO strategy to show YT you’re an expert within a particular vertical.
I’m having a dilemma- my specific niche is no longer relevant to me, I have a ton of knowledge on the subject but I feel like I’ve gotten repetitive and stale. I don’t really have anything else to pivot to ( I certainly don’t want the audience to focus on me as a subject for content or my lifestyle) should I just give this up?
I love this message! I'm a new content creator and without realizing it, I'm doing the sprinkle in your personality method that you are describing. I'm so happy about this way of creating and I'm super happy to hear you validate it! I only have 120 subscribers right now after 4 months, but I feel like the growth will come. Thank you so much!
Funny. I was super niche. Starting the end of last year and this year I’ve pivoted a bit. I may lose a subscriber here and there but trying things that I love to film! My last video was a creative outlet for me. Still within homesteading but not super specific to indoor gardening. Opened a whole new world to do unboxing type things. And fun. Thanks for this video
Oh my god! You have just got a new big fan of your channel ❤❤🎉🎉 This content is Extremely helpful since i’m struggling with this right now. I LOVE your video production, content quality, pacing, your personality. And pretty much everything about this video. Actually this video is a great example of the personality - strategic video integration. Thank you for taking your time to make this video.
Thank you, Katie! I love this because I am in the middle of pivoting my content as I share tutorials and search based content, but I love the advise of creating vlog style videos but still sprinkling in the education and tips ❤️
Hi Katie, Thank you so much for this video! I am trying to do this, but now I will do the one you suggested about integrating! This is such an incredible idea! Thank you sooooo much 🥰
i am from Malaysia, really love the way you talk and pronounce. Because i was looking something and language that can help me improving my speaking fluently.
Hey Katie, thank you for a great video. So pleased I found your channel. I have searched and watched so many videos on mastering YT and I have to say yours are definitely resonating with me. 🙌
I love this video and thanks Katie for sharing. You always come through with the realness. I have leaned into my niche being romanticizing mompreneuer life as a homeschooling mom of 4. I’m also a revenue designer so I’m sharing tips on managing the kids, schooling, and running a design studio and brands. Oh yeah with a special needs kiddo. But I get to share about things I love also, books, K-pop, enjoying life. I just have to work on editing faster. It’s so daunting.
I love the sprinkling strategy! I am kind of doing it as I experiment on different things. but essentially I want to give myself room for creativity but also offer something valuable to the the viewers. It is great that you were able to articulate the pros and cons of different strategies. Very helpful and definitely a different perspective.❤
That outdoor backdrop was amazing! And great video! Ironically, I have been doing that micro pivot on my channel via Shorts that you talk about in your video and it's working! Thank you!
And yes...even as a new channel I am doing that pivot! Kinda...in my intro video I talked about my art and art hiking...then did videos about gear (by accident, I didn't film the art I did on the trips cos well....UA-cam banned me as a Scam channel for no reason while I was travelling!) and got this audience that expected that....which isn't really what I wanted to do all the time. So I did a gear video...about art hiking gear I use! And then been sprinkling in my art into my other videos. It's my USP, my Unfair Advantage - I am an artist, but I am integrating it now into my trip videos. It's here to sray, even if the audience now hates it, I love making those. Maybe I will make whole videos just making art in future, but I think for now that's a shift too far....
Immy omg, thank you so much 🥹 excuse me while I go cry because that's the nicest comment ever!
@SustainablyVegan me too! I love her and she inspire me to get going. 🎉🎉
I just wanted to say you have a great name!
I started following Katy over a year ago. I think she along with similar creators, gave me the motivation to start! I’ve started about 5m or so ago and still watch her and end up watching her whatever she posts 😊. She’s great 👊👌
Hopefully my current UA-cam channel will kick off at some point.
Start your show and don’t let anything stop
You. One step at a time…
I can't agree more.
@@PatriciaS-u2v I agree with you!
Yes amen same here 🙏🏾 ❤ I love this ❤

Yes find what’s give you joy.Sometime it’s not about money. When you have talent it will shine ❤
@@felicitasosborn9146 I totally agree ❤️
Winning formula is to give your viewers the thing they want to see. Being a UA-camr is business, and business owners give people products/services that people need in their life. It's practically the same. And when the growth becomes real, you can consider hiring people to help you run your channel more efficiently. The most difficult part is starting and growing of course, but consistency and hard work (with a little bit of Famester to help) will always pay off at the end. Good luck to everyone, I really hope you are all going to succeed one day.
These Famester comments that are everywhere are annoying. Obviously some kind of comment spamming strategy.
What you don't understand about UA-cam is that giving people experience, sharing stories or sharing kitty videos help people relax.
How much are they paying to post this on everyone's video?
YESSSSS to this! I can't can't can't make just ONE type of content. Thanks for this!
i feel like so many creators feel that way!
This is my biggest hurdle
And if I want to make videos on a certain topic I will and I’ll just make it a series instead 😂
it's so important to keep the fun in it! 🙌
This is what I do, series I post everything on my channel. I did seperate my travel vlogs though.
I hate niches. I need a more “Life of.” I love health, animals, and travel and I am trying to find a way to combine it all. I have a few ideas. 💡
That sounds like a vlogging type combination to me! :D As a newbie creator, I have been experimenting with different video ideas:
- Morning chats
- More lecture style videos
- More vlogging style videos
Mix and match and see what works! :D
Same!!
My channel is the same but it's hard to find subscribers cause even people when they realize I don't have a niche.
This!!!
Agree 👏🏻
.....and, it makes it a breeze to continue. ( That said...My videos specialize in being boring...so maybe I do have a niche after all).
thank you so much!! 💓
Me too❤
Me too ❤
@@katie the video is long and I watch to the end, so something is working
I’m so glad I saw this! Phew. It even sounds like something I would want to do. The constant worry about keeping within a niche.
I just have a general way of living my life and it works for me but a lot of single moms struggle so I just share me, my ways, what I do and what works in order to survive and thrive as a single mom striving for financial independence and homeownership
Me too!!!! I was getting very discouraged.
Katie, you are seriously one of my absolute FAVORITE creators. I want to be you, but as me.
I've been trying really hard to grow my channel! Had to start all over again! Thanks for being willing to share!
I needed to hear this because I've been struggling with my channel. Thank you for making this video.
❤ I'm trying to transition myself a bit out of big, homepage/search content cause that's what I went viral for, but it's so unsustainable and overwhelming!
aw thanks! and i totally get that - I really do believe a slow and steady transition is possible 💖
NOW I WILL CREATE WHATEVER I WANTS! thanks gurl!
Thank you for this! I have just started my UA-cam channel and I’m happy to hear this before I truly dive in! ❤
Well done on your channel! The fact that you got 4K subs with only 80 videos is a big achievement. Congrats!
I can confirm you are right, it doesn’t work, you cannot grow in a niche and then pivot
I'm here as a new subscriber to let you know your strategy seems to be working from my point of view, looking at your channel. I came across this video on my UA-cam homepage. Whatever you're doing, keep it up!
I love to watch creators like you who teach us social media and also do lifestyle stuff…so you have one fan of all you do and I will watch no matter ❤
For me it would be like starting a sentence and
Great stuff! I'd add that sub count doesn't matter at all because YT ignors it. Views and duration is all that matters.
Excellent video 👍 This is the strategy I have evolved to using although I never recognised it as "transactional" versus "relational".
Thank you 🫶
So true! I love creating content on different topics and have so much fun doing so🥰 the right people will subscribe!
YES!! Needed to hear this as we've got so many random ideas 😍 I think this advice of niching also causes burnout for creators aswell!
Katie. You’re friggin awesome and I appreciate what you share. And, always feels like a visit with a friend. Thank you.
Great video and I found you through the home page! Thank you. Love your style.
I'm having a hard time getting momentum going. Your videos give me reassurance that things might turn around❤ thank you
Recently I got accustomed to espresso with hot water.
I know a lot about fashion having spent over 30 yrs owning fashion businesses
Yet ! After 4 yrs I haven’t been successful on UA-cam
I’m about to try adding different topics
Makes a lot of sense. I think it's important to understand the process no matter what kind of content you are making. Thank you for sharing.
You're incredible!! Thank you so much. Everything makes sense when starting a new first channel.
I definitely tried to niche down but find it difficult. I am so glad you made this video. Thanks.
This is the approach I’ve gone for with my music channel. It’s slow, and sometimes brutal, but I know it’ll be worth it in the long term
I love your videos! As a small creator, you have helped me a lot and always motivate me to keep trying regardless of feeling frustrated and burnt out.
FINALLY! A big youtuber saying this.
I tried to stick to one thing but i couldn't do it. I have many interests so thats impossible to do.
Heyyy Katie- Love it! Thank you. Particularly valued seeing the examples of the strategy as you have been putting it into practice. God bless.
I felt this video so hard! I just was live talking about this issue of wanting to pivot but feeling stuck because I niched originally.
I love the sprinkling strategy! I am kind of doing it as I experiment on different things. but essentially I want to give myself room for creativity but also offer something valuable to the the viewers. It is great that you were able to articulate the pros and cons of different strategies. Very helpful and definitely a different perspective.❤
I love watching you in your van.. totally love the idea of talking about your niche in a style that suits your personality 😊.. thank you 😊
That outdoor backdrop was amazing! And great video! Ironically, I have been doing that micro pivot on my channel via Shorts that you talk about in your video and it's working! Thank you!
Thanks for this truth and for being honest about what works and what doesn't. 🌺
Really good. Thanks. This video gives a real, solid answer to the question that so many other videos have been trying to answer well.
