- I'm moving on from my F30 BMW 335i after 8 months of ownership. Since I'm selling it, I decided to reflect on how much it has cost me to own over the past 8 months. In this episode I not only cover how much it cost, but also what my final thoughts are on the car.

Well, I'm the new owner and am happy to say that it's in great hands .Still enthusiast owned and couldn't have asked to purchase it from a more meticulous and well versed previous owner !

Black roof on that E82?
@@danisantos3255 no, it was stock body, no vinyl on roof, was fbo and Cobb tuned on kw v3's and arc-8 wheels , peep the pinned instagram for an edit of it.
How’s it going
No wonder it was breaking. He added more psi.
2011 E92 335is tuned to 600hp been driving it for 6 years, maintenance cost is under $300 a year and this because I change oil 5k miles sooner every time, can't go wrong with this. During my 6 years of ownership, the only thing I had to repair was water pump which I got for $30. I am not considering any other cars because I love mine. I swapped M3 suspensions to my 335i and put 6 series seats in them. Now I also get a back massage while waving good bye at corvette and getting bj from your mom.
LEGEND
As long as it's not my dad.
I don’t get why people complain so much about the steering feel/dynamics. Drive your car in sport mode, thats the reason why bmw made a sport mode, it becomes a completely different car n no one ever mentions that
Jose Felix I never noticed that in mine, I was having too much fun driving 😊
Jose Felix my f30 335 m sport eats a tank of gas about every 4-5 days in sport mode. Not bad for a highschooler who drives to school and back and goes to the gym every day along with other things. P.S. I never drive the car in anything but sport, sport +, or dsc off when sending it.
Jose Felix every 2 weeks??? What... that’s insane. I was debating getting a n54 e92 and going big single turbo but my dad doesn’t care much for older cars/doing crazy mods to cars so I went with something a bit more reliable 😂
Electronic Steering in sport mode does not fee like hydraulic steering.
@@danielgazaryan1173 you, my dude are blessed, you are in high school and own that ride..
People tell me I go through cars like crazy. Nice to see I'm not the only one.
BMW needs to get rid of these common old time oil leak maintenance, it’s been going on far too much generation, or maybe they enjoy getting parts or labor charges.
Mcgyver B they don’t want to because people still keep buying them and it’s a money generator for them so it’s win win for BMW
BMW earns more money from selling spare parts than selling actual vehicles... Its a business strategy, all these engines are specifically designed to leak oil after a certain mileage. Its no coincidence that every engine since the 2000 have had oil leak issues at the exact same places.
@@TheGamingNorwegian it’s a big shame on them for polluting the earth’s atmosphere, the things wealthy people do to make money is beyond disgusting, for every bmw that keeps pissing the bed at nighttime in garages, and street corners, it’s enough contamination to affect life, not to mention animals, and rodents, they must be paying the United States government a huge revenue for these plastic junk.
I initially subscribed because you had a 911, then you sold it. I remain subscribed because you had this car. I personally think this 335i is stunning on the outside/inside and love the power it has. Now that you're selling it, you're hanging by a thin string. Your next car better be a cool car!
The replacement will be German and will air on the channel next week. Trust me, it's interesting. Thanks for sticking around!
Vincent T. He bought a vw jetta
Great video! Bought a 340xi 2 weeks ago. Love it! M-SPORT everything. Puts a smile on my face everytime!
Scott Brucher you got fucked like I did. I spent $53k on an ‘18 330e in August. I didn’t know until a couple months ago the 2019 is a complete redesign 😂
ZX trade it wit the new one. You might lose few thousands but still it’s a new new
Would it kill you to include the model year and mileage?!?!
Fr
I would think that's the info one you would (must) include when making this type of video. It's infuriating.
Right pointless video
The valve cover gasket is a common BMW issue. It's not a major issue but it's common. I have a 2013 BMW 328i xdrive. 110k on it. No major issues. I've done regular service. I did have to replace the valve cover gasket. I've had my brakes done and swapped out the run flats for a nice set of Michelin Pilot sports. Mine has been very reliable and really fun to drive. No squeaks or rattles, it drives like new. It hasn't been too bad on maintenance and the insurance on it is cheaper than some of the Jeeps I was looking at. Mine is completely stock and I love it the way it is. You can expect more issues if you get into tuning and always driving hard. Mine is great on the highway too and very quick red light to red light. It's a sports sedan, not a sports car. I really enjoy mine.
I also had an F30 335i. Owned it for a year before I decided to get rid of it...it was nice but I don’t miss it at all...good luck on your next purchase!
Research before buying a specific car is a great thing. Vehicle service history helped me tons, my car was never in the shop for anything but maintenance. I’ve had it for 1 year and have spent $0 on it besides mods.
I have a '14 335i M Sport, and I totally agree with you on the handling. In sport and sport+ mode, it's not bad, but it definitely has too much power for its chassis. To make it match, I need to upgrade the suspension with better springs, and sway bars. The tires need to be a little wider, and the brakes need to be a little bigger. The car hits 120-150mph within a blink, and it lacks grip. I would love the option of comfort settings with power, but sport plus for suspension.
Great video as always mate
It would have been nice for you to mention what year the car was...
2012
Love the way you used Autovlogs soundbite in the intro.
I bought a project BMW e46 so far a year of ownership cost are about $600 sourcing parts myself and doing maintenance myself on my car channel.
Great video, I enjoyed the f30 content. Also looking forward to see what’s next
Look forward to deez nuts
ESD, thanks for the vids on the F30 335i which helped me do a few projects. I drew the line on the valve cover gasket change. My patience was tested with the OFHG and OCG changes but at least I could say I did it. I've enjoyed my F30 335i (M-Sport w/DHP) since 2012 and agree with your ownership assessments. This is my first BMW and after replacing the RFT with regular tires I would say the driving dynamics became excellent IMHO. I'm weighing my options before I decide to move on from it. JB is lucky to have your car w/o the pesky oil leaks!
I definitely understand what you're saying. There are only so many issues I'm willing to tackle on a car before it becomes a pain and I want to move on. As you mentioned, they're great when they work.
I've had a OFHG leak for sometime now and my laziness led to the alternator shitting the bed today. I suspect I have a VCG leak as well since I can start smelling the burning oil thru the HVAC vents towards the end of my 15 min commute and occasional smoke coming out during rainy days. Lesson here is get your oil leaks fixed with haste kids.
Warranty covered 13k in engine repairs in 11 months lol just ended hope it’s all fixed 😭😂 2011 335i xdrive mhd stage 2+
I think the f30 is a great car. Agreed the standard chassi in my 328i was somewhat lazy in active cornering. On the other hand, I kind of expected it to feel that way since I had a sportschassi in my last e90. I have a sportschassi in the 330i I own now. Much more responsive :)
My son and I just purchased for him a bright red 2013 BMW 335i Xdrive sport. What a fantastic car. We filled it up in Westmont, Illinois and drove back to Michigan and the car returned an incredible 31.7 MPG. We knew it was leaking a little bit of oil but purchased it anyway and this video would seem to be consistent with where we think the leak is.
Great purchase. Checkout my other videos, I address the oil filter housing gasket along with the valve cover gasket DIY.
If you had tried some comfort oriented coilovers like the KW Street Comfort your overall gripe with the car would have been solved! Enjoyed the videos!
I love my 328i e90. N/A i6 is very solid engine even after 8 years. Sensors aren’t though. My oil filter gasket leaked but a certified mechanic said was due to the dealer not wanting to replace them after a oil change and it dry rotted even though i payed for the “lifetime oil change”. Transmission shuttered but was cheap and east to fix with some shutter stop. Turbocharged engines are generally more unreliable especially bmw’s
My E70 X5 had a oil leaking problem and... oh boy, did she smoke.. it smelled bad, HOWEVER she only needs a tune-up at the moment, she's still running! Never had it break down, ever... I'm pretty happy about it too!
way you described it is much closer to an E39 than an E90 which is a compliment
Sorry to see any BMW go...
Do you have the adaptive suspension on that car? Sport mode makes everything tighter and much closer to a sports car vs comfort mode. Not sure how chassis feels in one without the adjustable dampers
I have the adaptive suspension, love it compared to the sport suspension. Night and day difference.
I've had both the Adaptive and Sports. I have to say, I love adaptive suspension!
I have adaptive, there is hardly a difference.
I don’t have the adaptive suspension but I put bc racing coilovers on my car and it handles so much better than it used to.
Had mine for a year. Good condition. Only had one issue, valve cover gasket covered by BMWNA. That’s all.
Man, you got rid of the two cars I subscribed for.
Parting with my 2008 335i and torn between 2016 340 and 328i for commuter. Your thoughts on performance as commuter car???
So we will call it 10 grand if you would take it to the dealership to fix
You had the 3 series exclusive/sport line, the m sport has improbed chassis dynamics, more direct steering etc.
I have the same car. Haven't had the filter housing issue....yet. I can't seem to keep tire pressure sensors on the thing.
I test drove a 2014 and 2015 335i xdrive and was a little disappointing with the power and transmission shifting. I love the looks, I love the tech...
I would love BMW remaking E90. The design and dynamics of this car are amazing.
The problem is with the used market because it is hard to get a well preserved car.
Here in Europe I have found only very neglected ones that would need many repairs.
Nice review, i was looking to get a 335 xdrive in another 2 or 3 years. If I don't find one I want I'll get a 328 or 330.
That license made it awesome
Please state the mileage on your F30. I’m curious about the OFHG leak. I bought a 2015 335i M Sport last April with 28,000 miles still under CPO warranty to relieve my 2005 e46 330ci from daily abuse and can agree with most of his points. The car is actually a great daily driver and handles long road trips very well. Its definitely a dual role sedan that can take kids to soccer practice or enjoy a refined evening out with my wife. In the sport + mode it turns into a beast with more than enough power and instant torque making back road driving a blast.
To date, I’ve replaced the Continental run flats with Michelin AS3+’s ($900) which completely transformed the car, and added a BMW mobility kit in lieu of a spare. ($129 at the dealer CCA discount) I change my oil every 5,000 and have done that twice at $50 each change.
As far as reliability, my high tone horn has stopped working and is covered under warranty, and my passenger door is intermittently starting to not open on the second pull. (Common developing F30 issue) that I’ll be pressing BMW to rectify since it’s an obvious safety issue. I’m currently at 50,000 miles and cannot detect any oil leaks especially where you found yours. For the next year, I am debating on adding a dealer extended warranty or trading it in on a 2016 or 2017 F10 M5 as that platform is bottoming out and I can get a lot of car for under $50,000.
All in all, it’s a good car and could easily drive it as if we’re my last BMW
The car has 72k miles. You can checkout my other videos for more on those fixes. I go into more detail on why/when I had to do it and also how to do it. Glad you're enjoying your F30!
EatSleepDrive ....I watched the valve cover gasket video, just a tad more involved the my e46 but doable. Thx for the mileage update.
You will not be disappointed with the M5. A whole new ball game there.
These are the most reliable 3 series you can buy in my experience. Leaky gaskets aside this car has been great for me. I have the same thing only xdrive and mhd stage 2+.
Same here. I have the RWD 2014 335i tuned with Bootmod3 for over two years and apart from the charge pipe and regular maintenance, it's been fantastic
Natural BB did burble ruin your charge pipe?
Natural BB i’m purchasing a 335i and am doing all my research
@@GaryDownes what does bootmod do
My 2010 335xi has been flawless save the oil gasket. Presently at 115K. Have a friend with a 540i at 285K, also flawless.
where did you get the parts from that you fixed?
whats the mileage after and before ownership?
sold at 72,500 roughly
Love my E90 N52 6speed!
Beautiful car. I have a feeling this particular body style will hold a special place in the future for BMW enthusiasts. Easily the best designed 3 series. It still looks better than the G20.
what kind of oil, how many quarts, what filter? $31 is a great price
There is a new one coming out soon, new series 3 looks great inside and out
dude,i just got a 2015 335i for about two months ago. Loved the car, it is now stage2 tuned, however, I found that I need more than that. So I am looking for a V8 instead. Currently on my list: 6th gen Camaro ss, w204 c63 AMG (2012+) and e92 M3. I 've watched all of your videos, so being an Amg/American muscle/e92 owner, what do you recommend of these three. And what do you think which one would be the one that I don't have to pay too much on the maintenance? And thank you for being great for all of these beautiful videos!
I have a E92 M3 now, so checkout some of the more current videos. A C63 is definitely on my list in the future as well... Both cars can be expensive to maintain, but they are incredible machines when working properly. Especially with the M3, it won't be that much faster in a straight line, but they do so much more to the chassis of the M3 than they do the standard 3 series. It's worth the price of admission.
EatSleepDrive Thank you so much! Btw I love your M3 and that beautiful E55. Looking forward to see your next AMG video wowowowowowo! You’re almost the most “Cary” guy I see on UA-cam. Keep working great 👍👍
How much did you sell it for? How many miles did it have?
You should get a G70... Those sound like they are good tuners with the 3.3TT
I like them and can see myself owning one down the road, but I don't like to buy new cars for the high depreciation hit. Maybe a few years from now i'll pick one up used.
How did you sell the car? I always think that selling it to other people seems sketch
Both gaskets that fail on the E39 too. Very ordinary, BMW!
i thought i am the only one comparing it to the E39.......same dimensions/proportions, similar balance between comfort and handling and by the looks of it it seems to have the same maintenance issues.
same with my e46 lol
Well... All BMW engines are specifically designed to have the same weaknesses. BMW can make reliable engines, but why would they... They earn more money from selling spare parts than selling actual vehicles.
Driving any car that nice for so little per month is hardly a loss. More of a usage fee haha
$31 for an oil change? What kind of oil are you using?!?! My N54 is $70+ per oil change and I do it myself and order it from ECS.
joe smith order from fcp euro and send it back for free oil
What’s your next commuter?
Looks like you'll just have to subscribe and find out....
i currently own a honda accord 07 v6. i love it but i want something faster and more updated. it was my first car though. however, what i really want is the bmw. bmw m4 but i’m not near there now. i’ve seen these go for 15-20k. selling my car and saving for a year or 3, i’ll have this.
so do you guys think these cars have problems because they use them differently because i feel like bmw don’t wouldn’t have problems if they were used just as a regular driver
My 2007 335i when it had 60,000 miles, water pump died. Over $4,000 repair bill. Then shortly after, alternative died, then rear main seal leaking. Oh the valve cover was leaking at around 50k miles. Don't buy a used BMW unless you are can work on it yourself or you'll be hating it. It's a fun and great looking car.
I’m looking at a 2014 335i with 105k miles, 6 speed for $13k. Anything I should to look at when I go test drive to see if it has any preexisting issues?
I have another video going into everything you need to know about 335i before you buy one. Search 335i on my channel and you'll find it.
Well if you don't DIY (many people with family and kids don't have time to DIY) the labor cost of those two damn gaskets could cause $1500 here in Pacific northwest. For those people leasing might be a better idea.
Tell your husband/wife to watch the kids a few hours and go to the garage and fix it.
BS. My mechanic charges me $110 CAD an hour for any work on my 335i. Sure, of you're the idiot who goes back to the dealerships to get basic work done, then yeah, you'll be ripped off. But don't pretend that any other "dealership" doesn't rape your wallet
I'm only talking about USA, Canada has much lower salary range (thus lower cost, etc) and shouldn't be compared to USA. In Seattle indy shops charges about 120 USD an hour and dealerships charge about 170 ~ 190 USD an hour.
I’ve had my f10 550 for the same time, 13 mpg is the only con I found.
13 is brutal but the way the v8 picks up speed is beautiful
What did you pay for the car 8 months ago? What year is the car?
This Is why I cant do beemer the little annoying unnecessary problems. Always mystery leaks and burns not to mention radiator coolant issues leaks
I've always wondered what the 8 speed transmission was like. I heard its super smooth and shifts really fast. I have the 6 speed manual transmission. I love it but it can suck in stop and go traffic.
Why do you keep the car only 8 months
@TheMidnightNarwhal, only car people would understand haha
V3M2 I’m a car person and I don’t understand. It’s either you keep the car or you don’t bother getting it. When you buy a car, you build on it and upgrade. Don’t just sell it after a few months
@@THECANDYISGONE No I'm a car people and got my 335is and now with it 2+ years. Paid car I fail to see how I could get rid of it.
My 2012 has the same valve gasket leak. Smh
Next time tell the mileage at time of leak or issue. Thanks good video
How much did you purchase the car???
Did you dock and pump?
what year is your 335?
ayee you driving through milford
BMW's are effortless to own if you get to know your car (That goes for any maker/model honestly). For most using videos to buy a used car - don't buy a used one where someone 'didn't know' their car.. (That's the same for 'any' Maker/Model also - know WTF you are buying!). Check with BMW itself on the VIN to see service dates and what was done.. Know the key issues to resolve and 'when' they hit in your specific model. Every brand and model has a 'it's time to fix or sell' and BMW is no exception, however they also are generally bulletproof on 'actual' issues if you take care of the car properly.. 30kish - plugs and likely brake pads/rotors - 60kish - look to replace valve gasket on top (A BMW lacking issue - but not 'major'), likely plugs again, listen for control arm 'cranky' noises, you may be due for front control arms around 60k to 100k miles. That's all I've seen in 3 different E/F chassis cars from 0-100k now... Older E chassis I have owned, (E46, E39) just needed hoses and stuff replaced after the typical 10+ year ownership. Never, ever have I had an actual 'engine' issue in any of my cars over 25+ years of BMW ownership. Tuned, not tuned - NO engine issues. typical 'bolt on' issues, but if you are bolting on stuff to your car - be sure you also know what 'that' brings to the damn table! (Get better plugs, a bigger intercooler, oil catch can - do stuff to 'support' the gains you are trying to add..)
Here is how much for me costedf31 335xi(2014) after 14months, 41 euro for windshield vipers.
I've had my 135i since 2012 and I've put 65k on it and have had to replace 2 wheel speed sensors. THATS IT!!!!! I'm not going to complain about 300 dollars in 6 years or make a video on it.
MR Islandtime great cars, too many idiots on here moan about BMWs when they are very well made, the good news is that the idiots moaning are welcome to buy their camrys, I’ll keep my BMW thank you very much
@@davidviner4932 they are well made, but its expensive when they broke...replacing that 135i probaly cost 6grand for the engine alone
hi bro are u ok ?
so i need one bmw like this but i dont now MANUAL or AUTOMATIC ? PLEASE help me 😂😂0
omg youtube algo .. wtf? why did you show me this? It's like 10:09 seconds I'll never get back.. listening to this guy drone on without saying anything.
The new G-20 3 series is supposed to bring back the driving dynamics of the older 3 series cars that gave it, it's reputation as a sports sedan. Time will tell.
30$ for oil change? My 11 328i with inline 6 takes 7 qts of oil cost me 90$
So turbo more money?
how much miles did the f30 come with?
bought it around 68k
What's the next car?
You left out sales tax. Insurance cost. etc...
What year and how many miles?
2012 with 72k
$31 for oil and filter??? That's some cheap oil. My 2014 F30 335i requires 7 quarts and only use synthetic. Never had an oil gasket leak problem, maybe I'm just lucky.
Just purchased 2018 340i M performance/premium package last December, First BMW I own, I have a MB ML500 purchased 2008 & still running great! but want to try owning BMW! Hopefully will not make me disappointed.
I bet you are enjoying that BMW more than that V8 benz, i'm afraid you might get hooked, those BMW are addictive..
Why would you go for the 2018 3 series and not the new 2019
totoIV I made the same mistake... 53k on a loaded 330e in August. I’m still pissed as fuck.
ZX, that’s actually a good time to buy a vehicle, during those end of year with the out going model. I do have a good deal on mine, it was 63k+ but it dropped with huge discount! I don’t know about yours? Do they gave a good deal??
totoIV, I certainly doesn’t mind having a 2018 compare to 2019, it’s all okay to me. I just tried to have a BMW, I have my e63 and only 3yrs old right now if I want something newer model, for sure that will be a 2019/2020 e63.
Those decade old problems are just a few amongst many that are engineered into the car to fail after X amount of time - that X is usually beyond the warranty period
what year was this 335?
2012
I’m 8 months in with my 07 e92 335i and I’m $3200 in😭
The last owner didnt take care of the car, he just sold you a problem, BMWs are not that bad when taken card of, 8 months is too short a time for you to spend that much, i bet you, its coils, or even the turbos or your cooling system..
Are you driving with a german licens plate in usa ?
Just keep the car for 20 years and sell it as a museum car?
$31 for oil? What cheap ass oil were you putting in that car?
I pay $120 at the dealership haha
Just get a fucking Camry with the V6. It will probably perform just as good with far less problems and better resale value.
toyota nazis incoming...
When an EV?
not many people could fix all those by itself, b/c they don't have that much tool or the space to fix it.
this cost is inaccurate.
you can do all of those with about 50$ in tools and that's on the high end.. car comes with a jack and all you need is the hood open for the other two. UA-cam how to do it and boom saved yourself a few hundred dollars.
I think the problem with BMW is they're trying to be like everyone else, when before everyone was trying to be like BMW
I had a e92 335i and it cost me ~900€ for the 19 months i had it
Thats because i know the right ppl
Otherwise it would have been 2k++
(Six new injectors)
F31 318d. Just the rear right drive shaft cost me around 1150 £.. Never again Bmw
@@boxinggloves6834 sadly its true, i had 13 bmw‘s so far and most of them had bigger troubles
With 7 of them i stood still on the street
But... the only alternative are older cars with simple technics (older bmws as well) or toyota or south korean cars
U will again buy a bmw coz no other car can compare to the driving experience i had 7 series then bought benz then lexus n then again bought a bmw
On what planet can you sell a car after 8 months for 1k less? in AU you would be looking at burning around 30k on this model
$1000 loss on sale vs price paid, and those repairs would have totaled about $1000 and an independent shop for people who have better things to do in their spare time than repair old crappy BMWs. So, $2000 up in smoke for 8 months of aged compact junior exec car ownership. Great deal, I'm sure. :)
