  • Makeup is one of the best tools we have in our arsenal. The right makeup can transform you from tired to glam and refreshed, whether for work, a casual day, or a night out. However, the wrong makeup techniques can age you just as quickly. Sure, you might be great at applying makeup, and it’s probably served you well over the years. But using makeup application techniques from even five years ago can drastically change your appearance as it is today. Since your skin changes as you get older, your makeup needs to be adjusted accordingly. Here are some makeup mistakes that make you look older and how to avoid them.

    What other aging makeup mistakes do you think should've made this list?

      You can start by getting mature women to do the video, children do not understand. They just say "wear nude colours".

      Using pastel powdered eye shadows is very aging. I like to use just a bit of whatever glossy cheek and lip color I'm using to highlight my eyelids. I've never been a fan of a "made-up eye" because I already have a bold eye color and dark lashes. Well groomed, full eyebrows and healthy, moisturized skin are a big help if you are trying to appear more youthful.

      The List I look older when I wear medium - high coverage makeup, lipstick when I apply it heavily too, eyeliner..... Basically something apply very bold

      Over contouring, blushing and highlighting all at the same time makes your face look too crowded and compartmentalized. If you have a small face, it's best to do just one or two but not all three cos that makes you look old.

    I'm 56 with blue eyes. After experimenting, find grey tones work better than peach tones. If you use a bit of makeup setting spray and dip angled brush into black eye shadow it gives a softer look for top lid. For bottom of eyes go with dark grey.

  • @aredhel9629
    @aredhel9629 6 років тому +12

    I think the eyeliner on the bottom lid tip actually depends very much on the individual and on the shape and colour of your eyes. I've experimented quite a lot with different ways of applying eyeliner, and I find that lining the bottom lid actually makes my eyes look bigger and makes me look younger, while lining the top lid definitely makes me look older

    That's nice and all, good for you. I, on the other hand, will disregard this "less is more, avoid bold colors, yada yada" crap and figure out ways to still look like a beautiful gothic queen when I'm 70!

      Then again, I have high hopes for maintaining a relatively youthful look for quite long as I avoid the sun and have oily skin, both of which are factors which can prevent wrinkles.

    I personally think that when you do your makeup, if when you're done you like how you look and you feel good, you did it right. I'm sure some people I know don't like that I wear the wing eye, I don't care.

    Great info...some I already knew, some was new to me. Aging is the worst, so it’s nice that you look at it as a natural process. I’ve been super careful to take care of my skin my whole life, so I’m good with wearing minimal makeup. 💄

    Another tip: STOP taking UA-cam beauty influencers word as the gospel. Most of them are getting paid and get PR products. Not to mention think they are makeup artists because they do their own makeup. Majority are wanna be famous and it's just about their egos.

    I don't think the black liner on bottom water line does the aging thing for everyone. Its subjective. In India at least 80% women use black liner every day and it does nothing but enhance the naturally beautiful eyes.

    • @LindaLaurenPsychicMedium
      @LindaLaurenPsychicMedium 5 років тому +1

      Komal Salunke later on in life you’re going to suffer royally by putting liner in your eye that way. More people have had infections and anti-bodies developed in their eyes from years of doing it because of doing that. I’m sure you going to get upset and not happy with this comment, but years later you will turn around and say “OMG that person was right. I should’ve never done that.” It will be too late. Beautiful eyes are not enhanced by extra make up but only by make up that is understated.

    • @Inkdraft
      @Inkdraft 5 років тому

      Kormal: I've never put eyeliner on the water line. It closes up the eyes and makes them look smaller. I always put a very fine line just at the base of the bottom eyelashes and then smudge it with a Q-Tip. Makes the eyes look bigger. Indian woman have the most beautiful eyes to begin with.

    • @IloveCamels335
      @IloveCamels335 5 років тому +1

      Komal Salunke I think this depends on shape of your eyes also not only on age. I agree with you that black bottom liner does not automatically make you look older. I know a lot of women for whom this is a very good look and even for myself I do it many times and I am no spring chicken anymore and definitely does not make me look older . But I have very big eyes to begin with so maybe that helps. There is no one for all formula every person is unique and what is flattering for one female might not look good on another one. As long as make up makes us feel good about ourselves I think that is the whole point of using it

    • @Free-bt6gn
      @Free-bt6gn 4 роки тому

      You're right but those women are naturally dark complected and have dark brown eyes. I've never worn black line and never will - I'm a natural blonde with light blue eyes and when I wear dark liner, I look like someone hit me in the face. It's awful!

    01:00 For for liquidy base.. skip powder .. go for creamer .Bcoz as we age we lose moisture
    Use fix spray or primer instead of Powder compact
    02:30 Use dark brown eye shadow with thin brush in lower lid instead of black pencil
    3) 03:22 use liquidy thin concealer AT under eye .. like NARS
    3) Lip gloss make ur lips look more Youthful.. just lip liner and gloss ✨

      ana'cee I hear that all the time, but for me it's a curse :DD No-one takes me seriously, I hear "girly" alot. People get visibly confused, sometimes ashamed or even angry when I have to tell my age. Older women bully me a lot, cut me on lines in supermarkets, yells at me and stares at me angrily, you know, age-discrimination.
      Only good thing is that sometimes I get discounts.
      And kids are awesome! They show no pity or get confused even when I tell my age, they might just say "you look young." but that's it. I work in childrens artschool and I blend in very well xD

We can do what we want, but we get the look, what is "good looking" and what is to "hard", and that's it, what this Video want to tell us!
      Everybody have to search for his own Style, what fit's perfect to Face and Feeling. We have to change, if we grow "out of old Style"!

    As far as the shimmery eye shadow, that can look good on almost anyone. It's all about where you apply it.

    Confidence is the best makeup. If you want to do all of the above do it. Two times in my life I got my makeup done professionally and ended up hating it. You know what looks good on you, no one else should tell you what to do. Now, how about a video of dos and don'ts for men. I can think of a few. :P

    Pffft. Ladies, wear whatever you want! I know a woman in her 70s that rocks a Gothic style. There's no need to hide your age!!!

    I am almost 46 and have been using only BB cream with no powder, but strictly only the BB cream for about 7 years now...most people tell me that I look like I am around 32 or so... Everyone always thinks that my 24 yr old daughter and I are sisters instead of mother and daughter...I also have watched how much I expose my face to the sun as well as I get older, and with a good vitamin regimen it is good to also include coconut oil....I don't use chemical based cleaners on my face and try to stick with a natural face wipe to wipe away makeup...the good thing about BB Cream is that it is more of a moisturizer and uvb protective with a tints so it doesn't clog your pores like typical foundations do, as well as enhance wrinkles as you age...it actually adds a nice glow to my face that is also not in the slightest bit heavy feeling...Most of the time with my makeup I also try to rarely use eyeshadow unless it is a special occasion...I have noticed how even a little on my eyes tends to make me look older because the skin around our eyes due to the delicate skin tends to be one of the first things we notice with the coming of age....I look younger not wearing eyeshadow at all, as well as I fully believe helps to keep that skins from aging so fast by keeping it free from having something caked over it....my eyelids always get to breathe so the aging seems to have slowed there as well by cutting how much I place anything on it...I keep my eyelashes with mascara most of the time, and even wearing just that alone will highlight tired looking or aging eyes....I also always keep my lips hydrated with some kind of lipgloss or lip color that actually has hydrating agents in it...just thought I would add a comment of what I have been doing....including regularly in your diet things such blueberries and avocados are also a good thing for antioxidants and natural way to brighten your skin and help aid in growing old gracefully....I know water is something pushed strongly, but because I was someone who never drank a lot of water, I did some studies into the truth of importance of how much they were saying you needed to drink, and I even wait tables for a living....I found that the water thing is really more of a myth because they forget to include how much water you naturally are getting in your other foods you eat; especially through things such as fruits and vegetables....so if you eat a lot of either of those, you are probably getting plenty with just a few glasses of water a day...I have not noticed my lack of water to cause any aging effects with my skin, and I have always been this way....Our bodies are far more knowledgeable with us when we pay attention to what they are saying...I find my body tells me naturally what I need if I pay attention to even cravings....I know that if I am craving sweets that I don't know need to just chomp down on junk, but that my body is probably telling me I need a little sugar, or when I crave spinach that maybe my iron levels are dropping....pay attention to your bodies cravings and this helps in your aging process too...our bodies will naturally tell us what they are needing and not needing if we learn to look for those signs....Food has always been a downfall for me because I love EVERYTHING, including all the junk food, but I have always still tried to include a lot of vegetables in my diet....a good fruit salad I have found also .is a mixture of blueberries, strawberries, mangos, and kiwi....this salad is also a good dessert alternative I have found, and great also included on top of yogurt with some granola....

    Half of the comments I had too ignore, especially the ones about blush. I have an oblong face using brown blush with colored blush on the apple of my cheeks, works best. You should show the techniques on older models.

    This is absolutely ridiculous!!! I say wear what you feel looks good on you and makes you happy! No one can tell women that have different shaped faces, different skin types, different skin tones what looks best! You are the best at knowing what looks good on you!!

    I'm 42. it helps if you get a great primer for your face. eyecream before primer. and blend well. it's all about good skincare and application. I learned alot on youtube on blending shadows and what products to buy. I disagree on the cream products tho. if you have oily skin that stuff will melt right off if on the cheek like blushes. I also disagree on the colors,and textures. wear whatever you want just try to blend it well. it's a game changer.

      skorpia g I agree. I've found the biggest game changer for me to be a primer that's right for your skin. I'm still looking for my Holy Grail primer for my slightly uneven toned combo oily to normal pale skin. I wish they'd stop talking abt "botox in a jar" and just make it already!!! lolol

    I agree. Less is more. I am a professional make-up artist.
    What's under the make-up up is important..Light weight moisturizer, & a primer are good for older women. Very light dust of powder after foundation. Lighter lipsticks. Less contouring on eyes.
    Smokey eyes will accentuate all the wrinkles.
    Less is more.

    It would ever so helpful if videos like this actually feature the older women we are taking about. It's like catalogs that feature plus size clothes on size 4 women. You showed 2 older women in unfortunate pics. One appeared to be a hospital Johnny in a hospital bed! Show us older women in an older woman tutorial or why do it at all?

    No matter the pointers I get with concealer it ALWAYS makes me look older when I apply it to my circles. No matter the product, technique, or corrector. Although I keep trying because I do want a brighter eye. No luck. Creases so badly. Was born with dark circles. I'm 33. I can't afford the expensive stuff.

      Why don't you try mineral powder there? I first apply yellow eye shadow and then DAUB mineral powder on top with a lip brush. Looks much more natural than those cream concealers which glow unnaturally under fluorescent lights.

    I don't use foundation, and my skin tone isn't uneven at all. I think I look more colourful instead of a bland shade. Besides, it's much faster to remove the eye makeup and lipstick instead of adding blush, foundation, highlighter, etc.
