I feel like he's about to punch him as his rage is building up, fast. He knows who's at fault, just didn't expect to be this bad. And when the waitress says she had to wait 5 weeks, I can tell his voice turns into confusion.
It tells you also that he thinks people who RUN his establishment are beneath him and easily replaceable (not uncommon in businesses, though). Not that we don't already know that with the way they separate themselves from the staff and say that the customers aren't the "right type". Like, you're barely making money and can't run your place, you don't get the space to say anyone is not the right type. These owners are so gross. At least the place is doing better under new owners.
@George Khoory They cant be replaced. People wont stick around if they aren't getting paid, but the fact that these people did, showed how much they actually cared about the business. Those type of employees are invaluable and Gordan knows that. They are the ones keeping this place up and the fact that this guy said they can just leave showed how little he appreciated the team he had. So yes Gordan had the right to be upset. Because a team like this is not replaceable.

I love how he says he needs a secretary just to pay his 6 employees. My brother and I used to own a business. At its height we had 375-400 employees. We sold it in December of 2018. We had multiple locations and there was a management team at each location, but we did all the accounting/office work ourselves. Booking sales, paying bills, getting licenses every year, producing financial statements, paying taxes and yes…doing payroll. Every one of our employees got a paycheck every 2 weeks. Not once in our entire time in business did our employees not get paid. That was our number 1 priority. We also didn’t have a secretary either.

@@lamardavis9567 We owned a chain of bowling centers. When we sold we had 10 bowling centers plus a 69 room hotel. The bowling centers ranged in size from 20 lanes to 34 lanes. Unless my memory is failing me, 7 of them were older and didn’t have much of a food presence. We just served typical bar food. Fried stuff, burgers, pizzas, etc. 3 of them had full kitchens and large sit down restaurants though. The place with the hotel was also an event center that could do weddings, anniversaries, concerts, comedy shows, business meetings or whatever. There were 3 separate areas and all together they could fit about 1,000 people. The final 2 were newer and actually one we built ourselves from the ground up. We didn’t buy it from somebody else. One of those had an event space too, but smaller, but they both had large video game arcades where customers could redeem their points for prizes like cheap crap like candy and plastic junk all the way up to PlayStations. They both had laser tag arenas as well.

@@cladvahd6155 I've worked as a waiter and bartender but theres a reason why Gordon never gets mad at the wait staff. They're pretty much inconsequential unless they're lazy, assholes or completely incompetent at working a basic job. The turnover is extremely high amongst wait staff as well. Whereas how the chef cooks and how management operates the business is the reason restaurants succeed or fail.
Well you gotta understand that unfortunately its just a show at the end of the day. While gordon preaches for workers he himself has a history of not paying workers on time or even at all.

The moment you fail on the first two authorities and start leading by "i'm the boss" or "i'm your superior" you will loose every bit of respect they have for you. They will not support you, they will not follow you in battle. They will abandon you as soon as possible. And they are right to do so! Because you failed them miserably.
20 years have passed by, and i still think about this little lesson. And every time i see someone like Ari, using "i'm the boss" in an argument, it gets my back to my military class, where our seargent would have chewed us a second asshole for our failing in leadership.

Update: By the time the show aired, the majority of the staff had already quit. Reviews after the show aired were mostly positive and they did get very busy. However, they went into foreclosure with a debt of $1.1 Million. Ari was also arrested after he assaulted a police officer. New owners purchased the property and said the place was left in disrepair. They remodeled the building and reopened it as the Windsor Mansion Inn. From what I've seen, Trip Advisor reviews are excellent and shows the new business is alive and well.

"You don't have to work here" is the WORST excuse for a business owner. It makes it clear that your business is not worth working for, and that it would be more responsible for the employees to work somewhere else. It's especially bad in this setting, where the people who work here may NEED to leave because the boss does not pay them. They don't get all these extra benefits. This is like a teacher telling a student "you don't HAVE to learn here." It's very poor, and shows that you not only cannot think of a good comeback, but also cannot properly manage your team.
