Kristi and I decided to purchase this inexpensive tent from Coleman for the times we are camping in bad weather or in times where the bugs are bad or when we want to bring the dogs. We found that the tents we can stand in are really convenient so we went with this 6 person instant cabin from Coleman. These are my first impressions!

I've had the 4 man one for 4years now and I'd have to say it's the best tent I've ever had.
Used it at least 25 times in all weather conditions and never let me down. One storm was a mini cyclone which lasted 20 mins and wrecked other campers tents and took our gazebo into the sky about 100ft and it ended up in the creek 150ft away. The Coleman 4 instant popup stayed put and didn't rip collapse or buckle. The rain fly stayed on as well, and is essential during rain.
Best cool glad to hear
atomikmaster1 oh you have a rain fly? You by that afterwards?
Mine is the 8 person without a rain fly and it leaked on the 2 to third use and first use in the rain. I tried to contact Coleman to see if a add on rainfly was available but they claimed they don’t even sell any separately and didn’t seem to give a shit and just said look and see if someone else sales a replacement. Yeah cause someone else will waste time making a rainfly for your tent because you didn’t. I’m just going to try and spray it then seam seal it and if that don’t work I’m trashing it.
@@whatfreedom7 yeah that's crazy.
Atomikmaster: What model of the 4 man did you have? They make different pop up styles: fastpitch, instant, etc.
Amen brother!
I have an 8 man Coleman instant tent. I've used it for a hundred twenty days a year, 7 years straight. I have been in three days pouring rain Non-Stop, with no problems at all. Into the seventh Year my tent started leaking in the floor corners. To be fair when you have a tent that you use hundred twenty days a year, for 7 days years and never any maintenance, we're doing pretty darn good. When you use a tent that much you need to maintain it. You need to buy a seam sealer and periodically seal all the seams in the interior. But for being a tent that has not been maintained it has done wonderful. What I find quickest and easiest way to set up the tent is, hold the center of the tent and up, and all the legs will drop down, Then extend each telescopic ceiling polls, then extend each side pole to raise the height of the tent, that will take you 3 minutes maybe four at the max. I've been camping all my life and that is one of the best tents I have ever invested in
I think you got an older model that was built better than the new ones. Perhaps they changed manufacturers or something. I really wanted this tent to be the ticket. I love the size, the pack down size, the material seemed strong, I was excited to have a good tent but unfortunately it didn't cut the mustard. I have a gazelle tent now that's great
@@SirWilliamGoes
Over the years I've seen many positive comments. Every once in awhile I do see someone who purchased a
tent that they weren't happy with. I'm not sure what's going on with your tent but did you try to take it back and get a different one
Since you have a lot of experience.. how do you get the tent back on the bag? No matter what I do, it does not seem to fit.
I laughed to hard at the hole in the bottom and tape part 🤣
That was funny as hell the hole in the bottom for a bran new tent and duct taped. 😂
Ohhh come on Coleman..
zzx
Best tent ive ever owned.
Thanks for showing what it's like standing up!
God Bless you!!!
I have 2 twin cots that I use in mine. That Dude is a glamping dream.
If you’re a fan of cots you should check out this one Ive been using. I absolutely love it!! Super comfortable, packs up really small, holds 350lbs, and best of all. Made in America 🇺🇸 check out go-kot.com use promo code sirwilliamgoes to save 10%
After years of camping, I've learned to always always put the rainfly on.
We have 2 Instant Tents. One is a 6 person and the other is a 10 person. We got the 10p at Sam's club on closout (Paid $69 instead of $169), the other we got at Walmart on closeout as well. We really like them. I think they are Ozark, but they work great. One thing I do to all of my Tents is add a can or 2 (Depending on size) of repellent. @ coats of repellent and you add even more rain protection. It's like $10 for 2 cans at Walmart, and with the Rain we get here in FL, that treatment has paid for itself. On a previous trip it rained for 3 days straight, and we suffered no leaks at all.. I have a RTT as well, but I will always have a ground tent for those trips where my daughters and dogs want to tag along.
Do they have the duct tape corners???
@@SirWilliamGoes I'll have to check. But that stuff is reinforcement.
Its seam tape. It reinforces the seams in those areas. Over time that area would fill because so many pieces are coming together. It also deals those corners making them fairly waterproof.
Thanks for the review. Picked one up today new in the box on fb marketplace for $60. Can't wait to try it out when the weather warms up.
... Thank you for the video, and addressing all these (very) important matters, that are normally overlooked. Much appreciated.
You should ALWAYS put down a ground tarp underneath the tent 1st. Saves the bottom tub liner from getting torn up.
Coleman uses a good tape for the corners to water proof it😊
They could do better than that. sounds like they are jerry rigging a flaw.
looked like lose stitching there also.
Saw a man at camp today had one of these...I ordered one..will have it friday..also ordered a rainfly...let's hope it's worth the money...and no holes
Hope you're pleased. Mine has been well worth the small investment.
Jesus loves each and every one of you very much!!!
Thanks, bud. Good job!
My Gazelle T4 works well. The only issue that you’ll find is breaking down in the rain. I do agree with you this is much better than a RTT. BTW, I did buy something in the REI store in Atlanta the other day so I am official!
Oh man, did you refi your house for your purchase!!!!
Great review. I have this tent and used it several times, it’s ok at best but really stays hot with poor ventilation in the summer months. I’m saving up for a canvas kodiak tent. However for the price of the Coleman not bad and has been through some heavy rain storms with no issues
Those canvas tents are nice just really heavy
Darren, did it come with a rain fly when you bought it? Thanks
@@trevorschiefelbein
No. I bought the rain fly additional cost, about 25-30 bucks
@@DV77737 Thanks!
Mine did not go back in! Please do a video on how to get this thing back in the bag. Thank you
Its a bit of a pain for sure.
Well it survived a severe thunderstorm yesterday.. Actually I went through 3 of them back-to-back.. Lol.. Crazy night for sure... And yes it did leak a little bit but not bad.. Man it was pouring down rain .. 2 inches per hour they said on my weather radio
Nice glad you stayed dry. Sounds crazy!!
@@SirWilliamGoes I treated it today with the Coleman sealant spray.. I hope it works.. lol
I have same 6 person you can fit 2 twin air beds and have enough room
Come on Coleman! Ductape? LOL.
Right!!
Right!!
I used to rely on Coleman tents, but the last one I had started coming apart in it's second season. The quality seemed to have gone downhill. Running Alps now.
As for rooftop vs. ground; I do more base camping where I set up in one place for several days and explore out from there so ground tents work best for me, at least for the time being.
I have heard about those tents I will have to check those out further
The one I have now is this Browning Glacier Extreme, made by Alps. It's a beast at 10x10 and 7 foot center height. I wanted something I could stand up in, I'm 6'4". Room for a queen airbed, camp chair, duffle bags, and enough left over to cook in a pounding hailstorm. Really tough fly and a floor liner. Going on 3 years now and no complaints except it is heavy, about 45#. www.sportsmans.com/camping/tents-shelters/family-tents/browning-glacier-extreme-6-person-tent/p/1270379.
awesome review, and "damn coleman!!! " lmao. Get your money back brother. Thansk for the video !!
Thanks for watching! I did!! I went out and got a Gazelle
Did you update anywhere with the rain test, and installing the rain fly? Thank you, great review.
I did not. It’s terrible without I can attest to that
Lmao broo when you saw the hole and tape… what a bummer
No rainfly included 🤷🏾♀️
I purchased the Coleman 6 Person Instant Cabin, and just used it for the first time this weekend. It was great. The problem is.... how the heck to you get it back in the storage bag? I tried 3 different times and finally gave up. It is in my basement right now, until I can muster up the patience to try again. This would make a great video, because I am obviously doing something wrong. THANKS
Remove the tag on the bottom of the bag
I cannot tell if you are doing it in one minute when u spend time rotating the tent around.
Interesting
Door zipper operation is very important (i.e., one-handed? or two?). Didn't see that addressed....bummer..
Inherently most zippers Ive ever come across, particularly on soft materials, are two handed. One hand zips, while the other takes up slack. Hope this helps.
Door kinda sucks. It's a 2 handed affair. And make sure to step high going out the door in the middle of the night if nature calls. Don't trip, please!!
Thank you for the video
I think that is probably seam tape in the corners. It helps waterproof seams.
That's what I'm thinking too
The Amazon description says "150D/150D Polyester/taped seams"
Shift pod can be one minute. You took two.
The link for the "rain" fly barely covers the roof from rain, let alone the full tent from rain??
Hrm. There should be multiple sizes
@Sir William Goes cheers, thankyou!!✔️
I bought a Coleman instant tent years ago and I’m still using it 😁 I haven’t had any issues with rain or anything as of yet. I bought a Coleman instant screen house last year so I can sit under that outside if it rained and it broke during setup the first time I attempted to use it :-( garbage! 😭
Dang that sux. Yeah I got another tent after this one that had same issues
I have one of those 10 x 10 screen rooms. Very light and easy to set up. Which is its major drawback. El Cheapo!
Would a raised full size queen blowup mattress fit in there comfortably?
Definitely would. However after returning this one only to receive another Coleman with holes I have been using this Gazelle tent which is far better. I'll have a video soon. amzn.to/2WRVh5o
God Bless you!!!
Has anyone tried using flex tape spray for the bottom inside and out.
I haven’t but it would probably work
Coleman vs Gazelle which would you choose for a faster setup?
Gazelle hands down
Roof top tent is awesome, but I can agree it's not cheap. You can have awing with roof top tent with three doors and do same thing as you said at 1:52. So it's all your personal opinion, not applies to everyone. I betcha eventually you will get roof top tent. And this is reason Top roof tent is expansive as they are using good material compare to Coleman It's good for bathroom only
I may go with an awning but or would possibly do rtt on a truck.
@@SirWilliamGoes I like your conservatism vs how much money to spend on ovelanding. People are spend thousands on many things and don't even why. RTT is great i wish they were for less price.
@@phlfly10 I agree!!
Send it back reject somebody else send it back and you got it
I just purchased the 8 person and it has holes in the floor - brand new - cheap cheap cheap floor! I wonder where it was manufactured????
It starts with a C ends with an A , and rhymes with Dinah .
Great job Coleman ! another cheap greedy ol fashion american company thanks for this bs quality
Switzerland, they used holes left over from Swiss cheese
I keep looking for things I want to buy but the one to 3 star reviews are full of things being made cheaply and falling apart. China is making everything - printers, sofas, dishes, clothing My money is better sitting in my account than having to deal with returning things.
That sucks
Have you payed attention to the size of the mesh holes? The "no see'ems" are relentless as you being from SC know. This can be a real deal breaker. What's the weight?
Yeah I'm convinced there isn't much you can do about those bastards except stay out of SC!!!!!
@@SirWilliamGoes stay out of Eastern middle Tennessee too!!
@@chuckchuckles8281 oh no they're there too!!!
@@SirWilliamGoes so bad in june-september, I usually wear long sleeves when camping
I just bought this thing and I plan on using it tomorrow.. I sure hope that it doesn't have duct tape and holes in it.. Crazy Mess for sure...
Did your tent come with any holes?
@@team1perfection No.. But it does leak when it's raining.. and then after the rain cleared away it would sweat all night long.. Crazy Mess for sure... it makes me wonder what WeatherTech means.. Lol..
@@Thebald1 thank you for the info!
@@team1perfection No problem...
Hey what happen with the floor are they all that way ive seen great revin thid tent and rain proof with the rain fly but that floor thing kinda makes me leary
I received two of these tents and the were both of equal quality.
Would you recommend it brother ive been tent searching for like a week its so tiring, from msr, northface, kelty and I just font want to spend 500 dollars on a tent,my wife want something she can stand up in and lots of room,Would you recommend this tent
Go with this one amzn.to/3dpCnMU
I was going to get that one instead I bought the kazoo 6 man instant pop the green one good tent so far bought a 3 year warranty on it will see how it goes
Looks like someone sold you a second hand tent. Crazy.
Right!! It was brand new out the box. Then when I got another one that had same issues in different spots. Needless to say Coleman quality no good in my opinion.
You might have bought a used tent instead of a new one. I've done that a couple of times. You just have to really pay attention when you order.
Yeah Wen we replaced it the replacement also had holes!!
@@SirWilliamGoes did also have the tape in the corners?
@@John_Claybrook yea
@@SirWilliamGoes Oh no!!!
This tent is priced low enough that it makes sense to me to just go with new. Like you said, it's a gamble when buying used. I can't keep our border collie, Sir Lift-a-Leg, to stop peeing on my own 6-man Coleman. Who knows if a used tent has also be treated that way?
Can 3 adults fit comfortably inside?
Id say so.
Did you get a replacement tent? Anymore holes?
Yes I got another one that has same exact issue so I gave up!! Got a gazelle
@@SirWilliamGoes that sucks. It looked like it could be so promising
Thanks for this good review video! Bummer about the floor quality. Have you exchanged the tent for a new Coleman? We are anxious to see the quality of the replacement tent.
I did and the new one had holes at the seams. I switched it out for a gazelle. Check out my channel where I did an in-depth review of the gazelle equivalent
@@SirWilliamGoes Will do............thanks.
I ended up finding a great Eureka on Kijiji. It’s like new.
I wouldn’t buy a Coleman again. Until things start being made with quality like it used to be.
Did you have to send in the old tent? How did that work?
What is with the ductape ? Is this one been used?
I was going to buy one , am going to check the floor before I pay 💰
This is shame Colmen
It isn't duct tape its Coleman's patented welded corners and inverted seams.
@@dekkarmcgowan1423 So basically Coleman tape.
Coleman quality has sadly been lacking lately.
God Bless you!!!
I haven't used Coleman in many years, cheap price cheap product.
Its a shame about the floor, did you happen to try the rainfly? I've read around that the 6 person rainfly is defective and doesn't fit the 6 person tent?
I didn't I returned everything after the second one they sent also had holes.
The 6 person rainfly does fit this tent. There was a problem previously but now it seems Coleman ships the proper size fly for the 6.
Dude. You review camping equip reviews, and you don’t know what Seam Tape is? And you are upset that it was pre applied?
Asking for a friend.
Haha I'm just a dude telling you thoughts in a tent I in no way claim to be anything other!!! I guess it would have maybe dawned on me had the tent not leaked like a coffee filter in the rain!!!
Holey shit you look way younger here
Lol. Well it was a few years a lots a beers ago!!!
What a POS! I'm sold on the Gazelle
Gazelle has been awesome. I wish it packed down as well as the coleman but aside from that its gold
good informationm but... I cant stop focusing on your hat's bill. whats up with that? its like you work at a gas station in the 50s. Sorry, I have hater tourettes.
I ride motorcycles flip up bill to keep hat on 1 and 2 it's different not everyone likes wearing the same things as the next guy some of us have the ability to be unique and different and are confident enough to do so 😉
Oztent
Yeah this I've heard, but it off budget tho
I have read reviews on the Coleman Weather master...and they were rained out..........the seams leaked and were fraying - it was brand new! Garbage!
Yeah. Look at the gazelle
Proves anyone can put it up....
Rooftop tents are overrated and overpriced, so many better options
I couldnt agree more.
Why do I feel like eating Churros??
Because they are amazing!
@@SirWilliamGoes Ha ha ha, that they are mate.
Something is triggering a craving for Churros, its either camping or tent related.
Hey Sir, have you ever come across or had any experience with Black Wolf tents in your travels?
I'm no tent expert myself but they look like really solid units, good quality and practical.
@@kaineleggett3401 they do look great we don't get cool stuff like that offer here. Instead they stick us with lower end stuff like this Coleman!!
Talks a lot and most just want to see the tent setup vs. his life history of camping.
