First, I'm really glad to see this video still catching views here and there. This is a very fun game in my opinion. Glad you are enjoying it too. The markets are a big part of the game and yes, if left untouched, one person could benefit a lot from sludge... but I think that's why you can attack them as well. :-) Thanks for watching and commenting!
Thank you! It can be complex at first, but the more you play it, the easier it becomes. It's still one, that while my opinion doesn't seem to be the popular one, we've kept enjoying through today!
I've found 3-4 is optimal. 5 takes a long time, 2 makes it very easy to manipulate the commodities market (at least in our case it is). 3-4 seems perfect.
Thanks, I'm glad you like it! It hasn't taken us 3 hours at all. Even our first game only took about 90 minutes (and that was a 2 player with a lot of "Ah-ha" moments.). I'll double check when I'm near the box next, on the timing they list. Our adventures are running about 45-60 for a 2 player game and about 90 minutes for 3-5 players. Maybe 120 if you count drink breaks in larger gorups :)
I bought this game because of your review. I really like this game. I like the art as well as the back story behind. And anything that is either Steam-punk or Victorian is a big plus in my book! Keep giving us reasons to buy more quality games! :D
thank you for the review, especially for explanation. We just bought the game and had some problems understanding the rules, so you helped us out a lot! It looks like a very interesting and complex game.
I bought this on release but am still waiting to get some friends together to break it out! We celebrated my friends birthday last week with a zombie theme party which ended with a few heated sessions of Munchkin Zombies! Thanks for the review though, the overview was pretty good and explains pretty well the basics of the game, and it is nice to see it somewhat in play!! And the other poster is right, FFG. never fail to make good looking games!
I do like this game a lot, and despite what most other reviewers and players have said, I think it's a great game. A lot of people get caught up in between the financial aspect of the market manipulation but the entirety of the game is really fun if you give it a chance. The story is amazing and I still hope they spawn other games as the characters and organizations in the book are fun to read about! Lots coming from Steam-punk this year I think, should be good!
I played the game with some friends. It was very fun and I started picking up nuances. With 4 players playing the market was more dramatic. Yet I also noticed the lone player playing the sludge market early got steady income flow. The black market play is tremendous if everything is cheap and you have money to buy dice.
Thanks for the review, been looking everyday for one on youtube. Don't have any games like this yet, but with your review and the nice price, will buy it right now! Thanks!
Thanks Emil, I'm glad you liked the video and like the game. I too am a big Steam-punk fan, but being one, I'm very tight on overhyping anything with the theme. I fund many people just slap Steam-punk onto a game and have little to no connection. This one though I feel does an excellent job with it. I'll keep making the videos and blog posts if you keep watching/reading 'em :)
Thanks ZMann4444. I agree, for the price (retail is $49.95) you get a lot for it. I like that the components are top notch too. Some people like FFG and some people don't, but I have found more often than not, anything associated with them and Dust Games is usually very good. If you get this, let us know what you think!
Good to hear, I've been torn about picking up this game, man I love the Steampunk theme. I'm worried about hearing how it is easy to manipulate the market to the point where it is not worth it to buy anything, but I suppose a house rule could fix that.
great great video. my only question: you said that this game lasts 45-60 minutes? This game is listed as playing in 3 hours per game. Did you guys play a shortened version? Thanks guys!
It also depend on how good you are to manipulate your opponents do do what you want. The part when you try to buy or sell dice to each other is the most fun part. I bought ten grog barrels for five gold each and ended with me getting 350 gold next turn. Sludge it an easy way to get money as well as mining the clouds. We always use the Volcano optional rule to make slugde worth while.
Awesome, zombie munchkins... mmm... When you break this out, let us know what you think! I'm working on trying to make a Critical Play of this, but would like to do it with 5 people so just scheduling challenges. It is fun though!
Thanks for an interesting review. I am just unpacking this game. I got it as a free game at a convention and am getting ready to break it out for a game night. We we watch your review before we try to play. The other reviews we boing and downright mean. I didn’t subscribe to those guys. I will keep watching. Thanks.
It's easy in a smaller group, but with 4 players, it's not as easy. 2 player games, it's pretty manipulative, but 4 player, not so much... in our experiences at least.

Thanks Asparain, yeah, I was pretty jacked up about this one. What can I say, I'm a passionate gamer :)

he he, yes! There are some manipulative moves to make, subtle too! Glad you are enjoying it.

This game has had some bad reviews and haters on the Geek. Have you played it again lately? Still enjoy it?
...or maybe it was making it not worth selling anything but sludge.
Looks interesting. Plus it's steam-punk.
