Wow! This video is such a time capsule! Rome was not built in a day and neither was the Dice Tower. Congratulations to Tom and team for a successful kick starter in 2020. Thank you so much for all the entertainment!
WAY TO GO Days of Wonder!!! Days of Wonder games are what got me into gaming. IMO they are the best quality games available. Not to take away from Rio Grande or Z-Man, but DoW just seem to be a bit better.
I know right... we just got introduced to "Escape The Curse of The Temple" by some friends. It's fantastic and Tom does a review on it as well. If you haven't played it check it out... it will get your adrenaline pumping like a roller coaster.
Jesus Christ, the quality. It's amazing to think that this video is only about 12-13 years old. Seriously, it's only been 12 years since 240p was acceptable. Nowadays I'm annoyed if I have to watch anything below 720p. In fact I generally use 1080p, and the only reason I generally don't go higher is because my internet speed is only so-so, and I'd prefer it not to have to stop and buffer.
I wished that SW and SWU was more compatible though without having to resort to dodgy FAQ;s - granted Tunnels helps in this regard but thats for larger games, it would be nice to be able to more easily use just races/characteristics.
@parkarboy73 placement of pieces and the choosing of the race. Politics and cost/benefit analysis play an important part of the game. Especially with more players
I'm just now getting into small world .. got it coming for xmas and have to wait 3 months before I can play it! my wife hid it from me and its killing me
@AernoutMJC It's not like the unplayed games of mine don't get plaid, because they are bad (hell, one of the is "Lord of the Rings - The cooperative game"!), but only because I haven't got an opportunity to play them so far. So, before I buy Small World, I should get those played.
This game sucks. It's all reading, all the time. It's stupidly confusing. Even if you suck and have no clue what you're doing, you can win if no one battles you. It's impossible to remember what your tribe does. The board is blindingly camouflaged. If you play it, get the free tribe. It doesn't matter what your tribe does; they all balance out. Just stay away from other people and spread out as much as possible and you will win. Not only can you not remember what YOUR character does, there is no way in hell to remember what the other players' characters do. Then you get MORE characters and have to remember all that stupid shit, and once you figure it out, you have to kill them off, read some other dumb ability thing (that doesn't matter I guarantee it) and get new characters. This game DRAGS on and on. It's like someone took Risk and said "Let's make this EXTREME and give a million special abilities out that no once can remember!"
casedinlight Sounds like you need to stick with games made by Hasbro. The mechanics for this game is very simple and are easy to teach to new players. No memorization of race and special abilities is required. Each player has a cheat sheet that clearly defines what each attribute is able to do. The races/abilities are well balanced but the ones you select to play with do matter. Some combos are better for attacking, defending, territorial positioning, ect that must be considered when playing against your opponents races. The game doesn't drag on forever as each game is limited to a set number of turns...much shorter than a game of risk.

It's amazing how much the quality of the reviews has gone up since then. Still a great review of course!
240p...we meet again
Hello darkness my old friend.....
Joshua Shetler I've come to squint at you again....
Tom Vasel is a legend.
wow this is like time traveling
Great review, Great game, Tom you make buying the right games so easy, I always look to one of your reviews before I purchase a game! Keep Going!
is it impossible to buy Vinci? I dig that theme more than smallworld.
Did you also do a Smallworld 2 review?
WAY TO GO Days of Wonder!!!

The game looks like another hit from Days of Wonder. Thanks for the review Tom.
why does the link in the description lead to a screenshot of Runescape? lol
Led to a sex ad for me, the other link went to a printer supply site.

I think I recall a board game breakfast where tom mentioned a reprint or deluxe version coming soon. please correct me if i'm wrong.
You mean the Designers ed. There is a review and live play from Tom Vasel and Co. on UA-cam.

This game looks great. I wish I had the cash to purchase it. nice review Tom!

0:56 Vinci is GONE
It looks like there is very little random chance in the game, but still very fun and accessible! I am buying this one!
@davcamer At Disney theme parks, there is a popular ride called "It's a Small World"
I brought this game on the weekend and My friends and I love it Best game I own :)
@parkarboy73

Why does he say "I won't make reference to Disney in this review" at the beginning?
6th-most-watched Dice Tower review (as of November 28, 2016).
Hey, it's an updated version of Vinci. I played the frak outta Vinci back in grad school, and it seems it's gotten a facelift.
I'm just now getting into small world .. got it coming for xmas and have to wait 3 months before I can play it! my wife hid it from me and its killing me
Excellent Review!
Small World is great, I have to play it more often!
Nice Review, keep it going!
5*
@AernoutMJC I want to own Small World so badly, but I just have too many unplayed games in my closet :(
@andyschiller
nope. only one race per space
Commando Skeletons with Cowboy hats!
According to WatchitPlayed, the Victory Point step is essentially skipped for your first race.

omg 10 years ago ....
@TannerWorld Oh right. Did not think of that at all in reference to this. Where's the ageless robotic singing children race?
IMO, Vinci is much better balanced, although I like Small World's different maps for 2/3 and 4/5 players
I buyed it today :D
So where does the skill come in?
Why do you think so?
God this guy understands anything about geography and thematics, it's former Rome around the Mediterranean "SEA"
I can totally understand you pain :D
However, there are other great games out there. Play those in the meantime ;)
I believe there is an iPhone version of this now available. I haven't played it, so can't recommend it.
One *fewer, not one less.
I have to say this does not sound very fun.
The reason you like it is literally the same reason I hate this game. I'd go so far as to say I prefer Risk to this, actually :/ .

casedinlight no way... this game is excellent, especially on ipad or PC. Lots of variety, strategy, and you can play a 2p game in 10 minutes.
