In this country at least, folding hard top roofs are a winning strategy. It's been well publicised that despite racking up a fairly hefty number of rainy days per year, we take to convertible cars in an apparently inordinate way. The folding hard top offers a rigid metal shield for the elements to thwart themselves against and when your car is parked up overnight, there's reassuringly robust protection against Stanley knife-wielding hoodies. On those fleeting occasions that the sun makes an appearance, a single press of a button and the roof disappears into the boot and all the inherent compromises that come with the purchase of a convertible car are forgotten. Lexus has done as much as any to try to smooth those compromises away and in the sleek shape of its IS 250C, it has a car that builds on the already great reliability record of the IS range. Here's what to look out for when you're shopping for a used example.

This car has inspired so many mod ideas. Imagine a carbon fiber convertible top (in sections) upgrade. It would look sexy af while shedding much weight.

Love mine !! this review was great & i visually prefer the is250c versus the sc430 looks too much like an infiniti & benz had a baby. This car is super comfy & has no problem gripping the road on tight turns. Plenty of trunk space ! This car will definitely make you question if it’s even on due to it being so quiet. No mods yet but can’t wait to get into it

Interestingly enough, this vehicle did actually come with a 6 speed manual, however was immensely rare (for good reason)

Visually, I still prefer the SC430.
I have to agree with this one. The IS250 / 350 Convertible is the better car, with more usable space inside and out, more economic engines (and in the case of the 350, still powerful enough), more advanced tech, etc.
But there's something about the SC430's emphasis on luxury that just sets it apart.
