A nicely presented video and kudos for choosing music that does not assault the mind with a discordant shrieking sonic barrage that many think imperative to adding value to their videos.
On the outward train trip, a coach party had booked up half the train, forcing the rest of us into one carriage The presence of a very drunk group made for an interesting cultural experience. Sadly, one of the party had a mouth on her like a sewer which wasn't very impressive when there were young kids in the same carriage. Hey-ho. The trip back was MUCH quieter!
I disagree with the reply here. I think it’s an accurate reflection of the sort of behaviour that sadly some people do exhibit when in a public place. This extra comment from you here to explain is sufficient explanation of the rowdy behaviour you experienced. When we, as members of the public, go on this trip we do not sadly get the nice music playing in our ears automatically, so the accuracy is justified! Well done on another informative blog, I like the new feel to them personally.
I think Vectra 548 needs to get back down on his knees and pray a bit harder! “Sorry mate” is a condescending and egotistical verbatim! To complain about something that you may not like and then call someone your mate is outrageous and laughable also unforgivable! Maybe we should get that lady back to tell him to fook off! Rant over!
Dougal at the end of the video: “I’m not going to smile because all you ever talk about are caravans and trains - all I want is a biscuit!”. 😉 Great video Andrew 👍🏻
Lovely trip as usual. So glad they sent the liquor samples home with you, since you were driving. Dougal looks so smart in his raincoat! Thanks for the 2 kisses at video's end!!!!!
Great to see Dougal in his little coat. Also loved the tours and the experience on the train. I felt like I was on the train with you. Your videos are always really informative and it contrasted well with the views out of the windows and the chatter in the background. Hearing the others chatting away kept it authentic 🙂
Ah, I do enjoy a dram - although Islay is home to most of my favourites... There's nothing quite like sitting on the Port Ellen shoreline in the sunset, within the gorgeous peaty smell from the maltings, with a delicious glass of Bunnahabhain in your hand ... 🥃
We note that you appeared to pass on the yummy cakes and opt for the soup. We presume this was at the direction of the ever-enigmatic Dougal in the interests of maintaining your waistline.
Fantastic tour in all that 'liquid sunshine'. Great to see the old diesels still working. I am no railway expert but I do remember being taken home by one of those (in Southern Region livery) on the Southern Region during a big train strike in the 1980s. I loved it then and still like the big windows and the bench seats. Distillery tours look amazing, especially when you can blend your own. Will have to get up there sometime. Thanks for another great vlog, kisses to Dougal.
My Scotland trips seem to be liberally dotted with whisky tours but 'when in Rome'! I'd recommend the Clynelish distillery too as it's in staggering distance of the gorgeous Brora caravan and motorhome site. Thanks Andrew, more locations/walks/distilleries to add to my list!
Great Vlog Andrew and Dougal! We did that exact trip on the railway when we were there in April. My Greyhound managed to fall down the gap between the train and platform at Keith, but the staff were really helpful and let me have a ladder to go down on the track and lift him up. Really enjoyable trip though. Have the cooperage and Strathisla on the list for next time. Thumbs up from us 👍🏻
Yep, you were right. Loving this video... It makes me want a whisky, however I’m working tomorrow 😔 ohwell, rest days Wednesday and Thursday 😃 I hope you and Dougal are enjoying yourselves?
Cracking little video, my 2 favourite Distilleries!! I stay in Dufftown at least twice a year, one for the Whisky Festival and again for New Year (Bagpipes, Fireworks and free whisky!!!) I've been going for 15 years and still haven't done the Duff/Keith Train, I really should. If you'd like a more 'permanent' base to settle into for a few days so you can explore more, we have a Cottage that sits just under Balvenie Castle, it's our family cottage but is always open to Visitors for 'Mates Rates' when we're not there. Dufftown/Aberlour/Craigellachie have so much to offer to people who want to walk, explore, cycle etc. I just need my Lottery win so I can move up to the Highlands permanently. :)
An extremely interesting tour video. I always enjoy the old DMUs which were once commonplace and just transportation, but now bring back memories. I also loved the distillery tours. I am very familiar with Glenfiddich bottled products but I have never toured a distillery or, unfortunately, ever set foot in the British Isles, so this was my one chance to see the place.
Thanks Andrew. To bad about the potty mouthed drunk. Being a tea tottler I am very intolerant of obnoxious inebriated louts. A glass of cheer is one thing, sloppy drunks with bad behavior is quite another. Where are all the large medieval locket rings when you need one? 😎😎😉
Ahh Chivas, my favorite whisky (though I hardly drink strong stuff like that anymore). That was very interesting to see that distillery and the other and all that beautiful countryside.
Hi Andrew, Just catching up after a great Twitter Camp and Rutland Trip. I would love the second tour with the blending option J would just sit and wait😂 I love a wee dram now and again. Thanks P&J👍
Andrew you are practically taking us on a trip around our former home towns. Grantown last week Dufftown this! Very good pal of ours works at Glenfiddich as a tour guide and the folks of Dufftown are truly the best in Scotland. Loving the leather pants and of course Dougal. Safe travels. (Doggys on tour).
Very nice thanks for taking us along with you . The journey back on the train sounded a much more relaxed one than the one there !! Hope yoiur whisky you created was ok ? Take care :D Teddy
Glad you had a great time in our neck of the woods, although it did rain.. nothing unusual there.. it is always raining.. well maybe not always just feels like it.
How lovely that Dougal is allowed on trains. Is that common in the U.K.? Not allowed in the states, & now states are passing laws that we may not leave our dogs unattended in our RVs! Most federal parks do not allow dogs on trails, only at campsites & on roads.
Noticed a couple of bottle jacks as you climbed on board. For levering drunk women out of their seats perhaps? Twenty litre bottle sounds good to me. 🥃 😁🥳
Haven't done a Whisky distillery, but have done a boutique one (all sorts of flavors including whisky, vodka...). They are interesting to visit. Each one is very different. I'm more a wine, beer and cider person. But when in Scotland...
Andrew, regarding your migraines. May I suggest Advil Liqui-gels. They were a life saver for me when I lived in N. America. Here I buy from Amazon. Also sold as Kirkland Ibuprofen Capsules, 200mg. Referred these to a lady who suffered terrible migraines and she found total relief. Started calling them her "magic pills". Thanks for your videos, your commentaries are clear and concise.
That was very enjoyable Mr . D , though not my drink of choice , but interesting nonetheless , pity about yer woman but you did a good job editing , did wonder why she was so loud , your lunch looked yummie and all those cakes , what a choice , bet they tasted good , all homemade luv the leather pants , where's the nice bike , if your still in Scotland next week , call for a coffee I'm at Ryan Bay , Happy Travels .
Coincidentally. we've just returned from a visit to Jura and Islay - we couldn't go to those wonderful places without checking out the Jura, Laphroaig and Ardbeg distilleries of course! I then look at your vlog only to see you had a similar idea, on the mainland. I noticed the audio levels are a bit variable on this video, or is it just my fading hearing?
@@Andythenurse Aha! Yes, I do have a dodgy knee following a kitesurfing accident a couple of years ago. It comes and goes and I need to get it looked at to see if it's still the meniscus that's damaged or whether it's now gone arthritic. Either way, getting old sucks :(
A nicely presented video and kudos for choosing music that does not assault the mind with a discordant shrieking sonic barrage that many think imperative to adding value to their videos.
Thanks Colin, I do spend some time choosing the music. I don't please everyone but tend to avoid the shrieky stuff!

Cheers Sam. I like to mix it up a little for that reason. All the best.
Good to see this. The morning I visited the Glenfiddich distillery it had just been closed due to the coronavirus outbreak
Trains, food and a wee dram. What's not to like?! Thanks Mr D. 😁👍

Yes, dogs are allowed on all trains and most buses in the UK, which is great!
Thought my pc had a ffff fault for a minute. Very interesting as I love a whiskey and a train ride. 🥃

There is a Whiskey called Glen Keith. And it’s very nice. 👍
You couldn’t make it up, could you Andrew! 😂
Fantastic as usual Andrew, perhaps show a little of the towns as they are both quite pretty little towns
Sadly wasn't the weather for it this time Jim but I'd love to go back.

Twenty CENTI-Litre. But yes, 20 litres sounds better ;@)
You gave me a trip idea when I go to Europe in September :-) Thank you for another great vlog..
