I'm a 73 year young Great Grandmother who was born on a cattle farm in 1950 (Tennessee). I watch you and Marissa as an antidote for the troubling daily news in the world. Knowing the never ending hard work ranching requires, I respect you both.so much as ranchers, parents, and loving partners. It restores my faith that there are still young men and women with integrity, compassion, and kindness in an self entitled generation. Thank you for the hours of laughter, tears, and fond memories of the ranch you have given me! I wish my Father and Grandfather could "come back" to visit your ranch for just one day! I don't know if their minds could comprehend the innovations since the time they ran a very successful operation! ✨✨God bless and protect your precious family and "the work of your hands"✨✨
It's all in how you are raised. some people never see a farm unless their school takes to one. You are correct though. The youth today for the most part are not driven at all to do any thing with their lives regardless of the field of work that is available in their areas.
@@monmixer I know I was blessed to be born in the middle of 450 acres of Nirvana and an idyllic childhood. The values instilled in me I will always be grateful for. What a trusting time. Unfortunately, I have had to teach my children and grandchildren to use caution and discernment in who and what they can trust. A different and more entitled world. The generation hat fought in WWII and those that kept the home fires burning (and worked in the war effort, man and woman) like my parents were the last Great Generation IMHO.
Place some fluorescent tape on the syringe to help you locate it
,your compassion for your animals is so admirable ❤❤
@@cassandrahoward8325 Tape may not be an option since the rifle barrel and dart are a very closely matched size but perhaps some fluorescent paint would work. Adding tape would change the caliber of the projectile and would be like trying to fire a bullet of a different caliber thru your hunting rifle. i.e. You cannot fire a .30-06 caliber round in a .270 caliber rifle because the 30-06 round is 3/100 of an inch too large (in diameter) for the rifle barrel. (If you managed to get the projectile to fire, the gun would blow up in your face.)
@@edmartin875😊
I agree with Marissa, paint those darts a hot or neon pink. Hope the meds work fast for Dunbar and his eye gets better soon.
Hot pink with a beeping locator.
Any bright color would work really and they did good waiting to see it fall.
😊😊😅😮
Paint might keep them from going through the barrel. Maybe there are darts already factory-colored.
@@jugheadjones5458 Yes, and even if it did go through, it would likely leave a bit of paint inside the barrel each time, which could restrict future shots.
The dart gun is an excellant solution for medicating animals with minimal stress. In some cases inlarge herds of cattle on free range or remote summer grazes, they are even used to administer routine vaccinations in young animals.
As a retired large animal veteriarian, I have a few bits of advice: #1 Inflamation in the eye tends to appear as cloudiness ranging to complete opacity. In other tissues it might be more like redness or even bruising while in the eye white. The second thing in using darts. I've found that using a bit of petroleum jelly on the end of the needle keeps medication from potentiially leaking before administering and does not interfere with absorbtion of any medication. Good luck.

Thank you for your chosen work. Needing a Vet to help all the animals large and small be healthy as possible.
No matter how many videos I watch I'm amazed how much trust these bison have towards Dusty and his family. It is so beautiful. Praying for Dunbar.
Thanks for the Dunbar update! ❤ He's all our baby.
I had a dog that a cat had punctured his eye. Our vet gave him an antibiotic shot and he had no lasting repercussions.
yes, animals are capable of amazing healing from bad injuriy. I had a cat that got in a fight and came home with one eyeball hanging outof the socket. i washed, ie flooded the eye, actualy both eyes.. liberally with boric acid eyewash, There was no way I could put a a dressing that would stay on over the eye. The cat was a barn cat.... and went off to to find a comfortable spot , as cats do.Next day the eye was back in place, with a little clear drainage...I kept up the eyewash for a few more days, until the eye looked healed, like nothing had happened... IDK what the cat did or did not do to put the eyeball back in place.. I was afraid of doing more harm than good if I tried to handle the eyeball. .
Thank you for sharing the info.

Continue to appreciate the way you’re able to draw us all in to feel like we’re right there with you on the ranch. These majestic animals are very fortunate to have you as such a passionate advocate for their wellbeing.
I think the paint ball gun hurt you more than the bisons
Hope Dunbar recovers quickly. Praying for rain for everyone affected by this drought. God’s blessings
I will pray for Dunbar that his eye heals and he can see perfectly. Boy, never a dull moment.
I feel for him. He has had quite a year.
Amen! Poor Dunbar. Recover quickly buddy,!
Hope Dunbar's eye heals soon and that there is no vision loss. You are amazing for taking such good care of these majestic bison!
I pray that Dunbar heals up quickly. Love your videos on beautiful majestic babies.
I paint the blunt end with florescent paint then go out in the evening with a powered black light, Works for my ranch every time.
We are all team DUNBAR..HOPE HIS EYE HEALS GOOD. WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING MORE OF DUNBAR. 😊😊😊😊
I ❤ u DUNBAR
OMG when I saw the title, I thought you had to put Dunbar down. I'm so glad it was just an antibiotic ❤❤❤
📣💥📣 it's called click bate..alot of them do it for views. Do you honestly think he shot Dunbar 🤦♀️
ME TOO!!
Same
IKR
I want to see Dunbar recover soon, I like him.
Me, too. I like all three bulls. They have so much personality!
We all do! I think everyone worries about your livestock even though they aren’t pets and tough decisions have to be made - it is a business. Sometimes folks don’t realize that you can’t treat them like you would your horse, or your dog or cat. Even though you do get attached to some degree - they are a financial business and you can’t put more in them than you will get back out of them. Well, unless you are independently wealthy and they are just a hobby. But there are lot better and easier hobbies.
Hope his eye is all will now and it didn’t turn out I don’t get out here as much as I would like. Best of luck.
Marisa, I just want to tell you that you are a wonderful partner, mother, and woman. I think you are a great example of the Proverbs woman. Thanks for everything you do. Your friend from New Mexico, Carla 🎶💖💐
Sending prayers for Dunbar to heal from his injured eye…🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻♥️🦬♥️ also continue to pray for y’all to receive rain!!🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🌧️♥️♥️
Awww poor Dunbar, hope he doesn’t lose his sight. He’s my favorite. 🙂

He’s my favorite too! ❤🦬
hes gonna get killed so calm down hes gonna be turned to jerky you see the description
Poor Dunbar! You all are great bison parents. 😉
Bison parents? What's next we gonna call people with sand fleas, sand fleas parents, or something. Humans cannot parent animals we are not the same species being a parent as a human is more than providing care or emotions.
@@hainleysimpson1507Ok CAREGIVERS!! Is that better for you? Geez get a life.

Great shot Dusty ! You are so proactive with your bisons’ health ….. sign of good animal caretaking !
Nice shooting, Dusty. I hope our Dunbar recovers quickly and completely. Thanks again for your loving care of your herds. Blessings.
I'm really falling for these beautiful faces! I never thought bison were this addictive, but every animal has a personality!❤
I fell in love with Bison watching when my husband was stationed at Ft. Sill. at least once a month, I'd drive out to the Wichita Wildlife Refuge, park off the road, and watch the Bison graze. It was my quiet alone time.
Aww poor Dunbar! I hope it clears up asap.
I love how much explanation you give us viewers! It shows us what your doing and the hows and whys of it. Super helpful and interesting. I never knew how different bison are to other types of livestock! Thank you for your videos Dusty!
Nice shots. Great job.
Praying for Dunbar and the Hurd. God bless you and your beautiful family 🙋🏻♀️♥️🇺🇸
Dunbar is like "Hey, what did I ever do to you!" Lol. But seriously, I hope his eye heals nicely! God bless you, guide and keep you all!🙏
Glad to hear that Dunbar will get better.
Hope Dunbar heals quick! I appreciate how much care and attention you folks give your bison. 😊
Aww, poor Dunbar. I hope his hips don't hurt him for too long. And I hope the antibiotic helps heal his eye. Just looking at his eye looks like it is painful poor baby. And I'm sure it's irritating as all get-out to him! I'm so happy y'all take such great care of your Bison 🦬 herd! Y'all are amazing! I pray for rain to come your way soon. God bless y'all and your family 🥰❤️🍂🍁🦬 🇺🇲

😊
Poor Dunbar. He’s been through too much the past couple of months. I hope he recovers and doesn’t lose his sight in that eye.
My dog's eye turned that color when he went blind. I hope the meds work.
Hope Dunbar is on the mend, thank you for sharing him with us…. Wuestion, wgat type of paint gun did you buy for fly spray? Do you like it
Thx LT RockBottom Ranch, Afton Ok
@@RockBottomLandCattleCo.l-rf1icDo you have Bison there ? If I remember correctly there use to be a Bison ranch near there ! But I haven't been around there in about 20 to 30 years even though I live in Kansas !
You didn't need to do the click bait title for today's vlog.
I'm glad it was a tranquilizer gun.
I know how much you treasure your herds. We all adore those furry guys.
But, he did shoot Dunbar!
@yadayada752
Yep!
He shot him up with drugs.
Look out !!!
Bisons HIGH on DOPE.
Sending prayers to Dunbar for healing of his eye.
Ahhh Poor Dunbar hope he gets better soon. He is a beautiful animal.❤
I hope that helps Dunbar heal real fast! Poor guy! First losing a battle with Big Joe, then a sore leg, now a danger to his eye. Best of luck to his healing. 🙏💕
“ do you want to go pull that out there Marisa?” Lol. I love you two!!!❤😮
Oh my goodness, my heart sank when I read the title. Poor Dunbar🤫 hope the antibiotics do the trick and his eye will heal very soon. You take so much care of your Bison, an extension of your family. Your passion shines through all the love you hold for them. Wonder how the female is whose calf died inside her? Hopefully growing stronger every day.
Thanks for sharing your adventures in raising and caring for Bison!
The dart gun seems like a solution.
I’m glad you got Dunbar treated. He sure didn’t like it but it will definitely help him. Good work you guys. 👍❤️🙏
Of course no one wants anything bad to happen to any one of them, but it sure does make for some interesting videos! His eye looks like a cataract that is overdue for surgery! Hoping the best for him. I think everyone is fond of Dunbar and his shenanigans.
Hope Dunbar heals quickly. 🙏
@CrossTimbersBison For future reference maybe you should paint the dart in super bright/neon orange or some other visible color in advance. This way it will be easier to located the dart. Of course, if the dart would hold the paint.
Good job getting that into Dunbar! Some antibiotics burn like the dickens (or as we say in Boston-ese, "hurt wicked bad") when they're injected, so that must be what he was reacting to. Antibiotics usually go into a muscle, or intravenous. Subcutaneous (the fatty area) would be for other types of medications for slower adsorption.
If a piece of brightly colored duct tape could be placed around the end of the syringe reservoir, it might be easier to find in the grass. You wouldn't want it to interfere with the propel speed from the gun because of resistance, though.
Love watching your channel!
Bless the care you give your animals. One challenge after another.
Ohhhhhhhh poor Dunbar hope he doesn't lose that eye. Get better Dunbar 🙏 🙏
Poor Dunbar. But I'm glad he was able to get his medicine.
Praying Dunbar will have a speedy recovery. Enjoyed the video. 😀
Poor Dunbar, he's been through the wringer this year
Dusty, you might pick up one of those magnets with a handle. It might help you to retrieve the needle more easily. Something you could carry around with you in your little vehicle there.
Good idea.😊
I bought one at HARBOR FREIGHT....it's advertised for use working on cars....but l use it frequently in my sewing room for pins snd needles in the carpet
Get yourself a couple, Dusty....they are great!
Those darts are aluminum so that will not work.
Poor Dunbar. He did not like that, but his eye is important.
You are very caring and on top of what is happening with your bison. I'm impressed with your diligence in getting professional support when encountering a new situation. God bless you and your family and your animal family 😊❤
Dunbar is having a very "eventful" summer. Poor guy. Dusty it so good to see how much you love and care for these majestic animals. All the best to you and the bison. Poor Dunbar 2 giant bee stings in one day.
Oh i hope it works and won't need surgery. Sending healing energy and good vibes ❤
Love you Dunbar❣️🥰❤️
Love Dunbar ❤️🐾🙏 speedy recovery
After the second dart, Dunbar's thinking, I've had it with this! You did a great job with him.
Poor Dunbar hope his eye gets better.prayers going up for Dunbar. Thanks Dusty for taking such good care for your Bison. Marissa is such a caring Lady to help you out. Take care be safe .🫶❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏🙏🫶🫶🫶❤️❤️❤️
Hello Dusty,
In your video you said that you thought Dunbar wasn't too happy with you. Judging from the angles I saw in the video, he was NOT looking at you when you fired. So I doubt he associates the dart discomfort with you. He'll still love you in the morning!!!
I just love your videos!! Hope this med works for Dunbar!! Love n Blessings
Never a dull moment! Raising bison is not for the faint of heart. 😊 I love the excellent care you give your animals.
Love these true stories and the kindness with which you treat these animals. This is so nice to watch with so much to learn too. 👍🏻👍🏻❤️❤️
Poor Dunbar !! But the Dart Gun is a good way to get antibiotics into them fast , well done Dusty , Marissa and Brooks !! I hope it heals well .
Your wife is a great team player getting that shot!
Poor Dunbar 😮. Rough summer! Feel better in that eye big guy!
I’m glad you were able to give Dunbar what he needs to help his eye and praying it heals…can’t wait until the next update on how he’s doing! Also, praying you get the much needed rain! ❤🦬❤
Hope the meds work quickly for the champ!! Good old Dunbar.
hope Dunbar gets better soon Poor Guy Love him🙏❤
Thank you for treating us like a part of your farm family. You did great with the dart gun yes I agree paint some kind of bright color on it. Hope Dunbar starts getting better now. God Bless
With the pump action sounding like the pump fly spray, lucky he didn't leave based on sound 😅 he is a smart man now.
Awww Dunbar ❤ Hoping he gets better soon!
Get better soon Dunbar❤
I really hope it works. So glad the doc could help.
Thanks for sharing this. I wondered about it.
Good job of taking care of Dunbar. Hopefully he will be ok and not have a problem later on. God bless you from Michigan ❤️ 😊
I think that was 2 awesome shots, Dusty!👏🏻🏆
Good shooting stance, too!
I love Dunbar's cute face!
Good thing you both noticed his eye so fast! Great shot Dusty!!❤❤❤❤. Hope Dunbar recovers fast
Geesh. Been a rough summer for Dunbar. Hoping for good results on his eye.
I feel for you Dunbar. Hope you get better. Thx&see ya😁
I figure it's a tranquilizer to help him out!!
I like Dunbar 😊😊hope they all be ok❤ thanks for sharing have a bless weekend😊
From your beginning to today, you could write a book. Thank you both for sharing all these years with each bison.I pray Dunbar heals, I love Dunbar, Hoss and big Joe, and all their ladies.
What a beautiful herd! Feel better Dunbar.
You got me for a few seconds but I knew you wouldn't just do that. Naughty, Naughty 😊❤🐨
Get well soon Dunbar❤
Sending love and prayers from Dunn, NC! Love y’all💕💕
I've farmed & ranched all my life and also been around bison and they are such a fascinating animal.
I so enjoy watching you work with your herd and your techniques on how how you handle them.
I hope Dunbar is going to be okay, he is one of my fav bison!
Dunbar buddy, daddy loves you that’s why he did what he did. I feel like Dunbar is my pet. Lol🙏🏻 prayers he gets better.
Awww poor Dunbar 😢I hope his eye gets better!
Dusty & family, thanks for the ride along. Hope Dunbar get's better really soon, Take care & bless you all. David B. , Utah. 🦬🦬🦬♥♥♥.
Great job on Dunbar, hope it does the job!! Can't believe all the pansies offended by the thumbnail😂 The rest of us know you well enough to know what was comin'!!! 🙏💕🙏
Nice to know that you can hit the broad side of a bison....
😆
Good job on administering the medication. Hopefully it will help Dunbar’s eye to heal!
Maybe if you watch the video, you will be able to see where the second dart dropped! They do need to be a fluorescent color so they are easier to locate!
If you have a magnet of some kind, maybe that would help! My Daughter has one about a foot long on wheels that you just roll on the ground and it picks up nails that have been dropped!
Thank for sharing your Ponderosa life with us! 💕😊
I’ll be praying for Dunbar to get better soon, and hopefully we’ll get some rain too. Much love, God bless
lol...lol...😂....sneaky video title Dusty, especially for those that don't watch every one of your videos but I knew Dunbar had a eye boo-boo so was expecting him needing treatment....lol 😆
Dusty, the title made my heart jump!! I'm praying for Dunbar
Thank you for being my kind of people. Love of animals ❤️
Thanks for another informative video. You take good care of Dunbar! And all your bison.
