The story behind the title: His left hand is the small, fast, agile ninja. His right hand is a big, power-striking ninja. Power vs. finesse becomes power plus finesse. He usually explains it before performing the piece.
I’m coming wwwaaayyy late - but thank you - you came to my school after a tragic event and totally changed the way I looked at guitar. It was a breath of fresh air after what our community went through, and I only hope you brought the same peace and relief you brought me as you did to many other community members and aspiring guitarists
My most favorite guitar song...I have listened to this for more than 13 years since I was a pupil.Especially riding a bike fast on 11 p.m. in empty street with strong wind and only this song replayed in my headphone. That is truly called the feel of freedom. Thanks a lot.LOVE FROM CHINA.
Just to clarify... Trace uses an LR Baggs Element pickup AND an Audio-Technica microphone inside his guitar. For this DVD shoot he also used an external microphone pointed towards his guitar, but didn't end up using it much.
Trace came to my school in Lousiville where he is from and he played this song live for us. It was amazing. Trace, I love you so much! Your passion is strong and I could feel it so much as you played every song and when you talked to us about what you do. Your face and eyes were just so bright and happy. When i shook your hand it was amazing. Keep playing no matter what anyone says!
Hey, I really enjoy this song! It's very impressive, and it demonstrates a lot of techniques I'd like to learn. However one thing in particular is itching at me for an explanation I don't have. How are you creating those harmonics? Starting at 2:25. And how are they not being canceled by the action going on with your left hand? It blows my mind! Is there a name for this particular technique?
One of my students wanted to learn to learn this so we've been working on it... it's fun! Plus I found if you speed up the main riff to about 120-140% it makes an awesome left hand warm up.
I really want to see him play live and in person. I discovered Trace years and years ago on UA-cam. This guy is absolutely amazing! Watch his documentary if you haven't already. What a humble man.😊
Ah this brings back memories. Spending weeks to learn this song way back when, never getting even half way through and still doesn't or will sound as good as this.
People like Trace Bundy are respected not only for their writing talents but also for developing their literal own style of playing. It's what makes them unique. When Bundy plays, no one talks. If you hear it as background, it quickly becomes intensive, and in the front. Certainly when you attend his performance you get the same effect. The reason behind this is very simple: Some musicians develop their own personal style of playing and writing using original techniques based on others.
It's true that the song itself is not extremely difficult to play, but to play it as well as he does and the fact that he wrote it is what's impressive.
Always love DADGAD. I know some peps said it's "cheating tune" but lots of beautiful composition that can't be done in standard can be done here, mostly Irish tune.
its on the side on the bottom of the guitar, and to answer your other question, his guitar is an acoustic with electrical properties, it has electronic equipment in it. so no pick up needed. or he could use a special magnet that acts as a pick up.
i have always thought this is trace's best work, mainly because it follows such a beautiful classical progression, and his flawlessness is out of this world. This song is not hard to play, but the accuracy he puts on every note is amazinggg.
@@tripletwintrouble4265 it is pretty difficult but not as hard as some of his others I picked this one up really fast and the fast part that looks really hard is actually pretty easy but it’s still very impressive how he wrote this whole thing.
I think my favorite part of this vid is about 2:50... Trace makes it look like playing the melody on his left hand is completely effortless while focusing on the precise picking points with his right hand.
The story behind the title:

That is artistic
That's just brilliant.
The Strong Ninja (right hand) defeats the Agile Ninja (left hand) in the end.
every time I think I've found all the amazing guitarists youtube has to offer, I find another one...
You found him now
Or I guess 5 years ago
this song fucking sucks
cody mcd you know it doesn’t though
Bruh
Sumpter_Random you found him 10 months ago

The first thing I said after watching this: CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!
It's been a year, I have the beginning ALMOST mastered.
Wow, I said the same thing yesterday and I almost master the beginning as well xD
Bei how about now
This is my best attempt... It's not great, but it's something haha: ua-cam.com/video/wYrrgL54ZGA/v-deo.html
@@Elros173 that was very good, actually
Yup
Music isn't about how difficult a song is, it's about how well you can take emotions and turn it into great music, and this is beautiful.
I haven't seen talent like this since I last saw Leo Kottke live. I could watch this guy go at it all day.
I saw Leo K live, outdoors in Scottsdale, AZ in 1977. Trace is right up there with Leo.

Awesome! Thanks for letting me know I had 10,000!

Hyacinthus yeahhh i gotta know that too, it looked like he just touched the string with a finger and the noise came out!?
@@lilpeeb3078 it's so easy, using ur middle finger.
I'd never seen this or heard of it before, but last weekend I saw it performed live at an open mic of my student's association. I was in awe!
I heard this in 2007 and well.. .Its fucking amazing Trace Bundy is the greatest Guitarist of all time.
One of my students wanted to learn to learn this so we've been working on it... it's fun! Plus I found if you speed up the main riff to about 120-140% it makes an awesome left hand warm up.
Well not so much a "warm up" as a strength/independence exercise... especially on the dodgy nylon strings that we use at the school
I can barely play it after a year and a half on guitar and the song on 150% is a warm up for you? Damn...
I wanna learn
Pssh, I just warm up with the entire solo from Free Bird.
You mean 1.2x to 1.4x right?
I need to see him live, it'd be an amazing experience
This inspired me. It inspired me like nothing else.
this man makes one guitar sound like 3 guitars, a bass, and drums, and a dual implosion/explosion at the same time.
I really want to see him play live and in person. I discovered Trace years and years ago on UA-cam. This guy is absolutely amazing! Watch his documentary if you haven't already. What a humble man.😊
frikking awsome. thnk you Trace Bundy, you are the one of many who inspireres me to explore my guitar to the max. awsome song
Ah this brings back memories. Spending weeks to learn this song way back when, never getting even half way through and still doesn't or will sound as good as this.
It's always so beautiful to see the result of countless years of passion, dedication and love. Humans are capable of so much. This is so amazing.
I played this as my music presentation to the teacher. She loved it, and she is having me play it as the opening song in church in just two days :-DDD
Mad skills, sir!! Thank you for all the hard work you have invested in taking them to this level!!
Excellent. Sounds so full
Man…talk about underrated!!
that was the best guitar peace i have herd in ages, that was sweat!

Man, i acn never get bored of this song

I'm so intrigued by Trace!
I wish he would come around where I live and I would absolutely go. The closest show is over 2 hours away in NYC...
I am just starting guitar, and I think that he touched the guitar more times in that song than I have touched a guitar in my life
How can u thumbs down this?! Pure bliss.
This guy's amazing! DADGAD tuning, and Celtic Fingerstyle! I can tell that just by even listening to it!
That's some seriously epic finger strength. O_O
Tapping that much, that hard, for that long...
Just amazing...
Bro you have inspired me from the beginning, especially as a Christian!
Probably his second best song.
The first is The Love Song.
I hear it now that you mention it.
This is gotta be my favorite song of his though...
that's chill. Really like this guys technique and style.
Pretty song reminds me of a forest.
unbelievable work of a genius.
*worships*
awesome video, one of the best guitarists i've ever seen
So awesome. Thanks Pandora!
It's true that the song itself is not extremely difficult to play, but to play it as well as he does and the fact that he wrote it is what's impressive.
Absolutely stunning!
If anyone is curious this is in DADGAD tuning
Peter Kennelly DADGAD + Capodastre
originally i thought he had tuned the g down to f# to make open chord but it might be
this one is a bit heavy, like lead
Always love DADGAD. I know some peps said it's "cheating tune" but lots of beautiful composition that can't be done in standard can be done here, mostly Irish tune.
I broke my high E string while tuning to D.😂😂😂😂
Noob me*
I love the last minute of the song. So triumphant.
omg this song has just made me fall in love... amazing!
luckly stumbled across your music tonight. fan til the end. please keep the vids coming.
This is what happens when an engineer decides to play guitar...
Magical.
that was just incredible
he has insane technique!!!
o.O
WOW!!! Will he ever be playing in England
It takes some serious sacrifice to learn to play like that. Like a social life. Awesome stuff, man!
I saw him live he came to my church =P he was AWEOSME like 2 years ago i think like seriously i almost cried when i heard him =P

Yea.... Sungha is really talented and hardworking child. If he will keep playing he can rock the world
Met him last night in Leeds - seriously chill bro!
Absolutely fantastic. I think I just fell in love.
Shades of the great Michael Hedges. And I love "Puny Buenie". I spent the summer of 1973 there at Frontier Ranch.
so awesome... i could never imagine being able to do that
I met Trace Bundy at Young Life's Frontier Ranch during the summer of 1999. He rocked back then & still rocks now :)
Been listening to this song/watching this video for a little over 10 years now and I still don't know which Ninja wins the duel.
this guy is beyond everything....he is amazing..
Can't we just discuss how amazing Trace Bundy is...?
If this ended with start of thunderstruck
Yooo
Shut up
pls no
fantastic. I love it.
