Ive never seen that level of finese before,. Incredible how consistant that cut was made and it did not look like the first time you had done it either.
So John malecki tried (and failed) to recreate this. He was using what looks like dry southern yellow pine so big surprise, but the number of people in his comments saying it is fake or that you are trimming off a layer of finish/wax/glue/resin is making my head hurt.
I just recreated this in spruce. Besides having a really sharp chisel (not just hair cutting, but hair splitting level) the wood also needs to be soaked. Bone dry spruce crumbles instantly. Also, if one tries in hinoki, Port Orford or Alaska cypress, the results are again better.
@@luthiermarian the day the video came out I went and tried it on a piece of basswood and my results didn't look as nice but it worked and his video now has >500 comments and easily 70% of them are just comments trying to figure out how this was fake because none of them seem to work wood.
Sorry, I got it from an acquaintance and I don't know the manufacturer. The only thing I can say is that it's a common chisel, not a particularly expensive one!
So that is how school toilet paper is being made.
Also tracing paper.
This is how toilet paper for my work must also be made.
Now that's a post it note every man can love.
Most intricately made post it note
Thank you for posting this. Not many things give me this much satisfaction.
Thank you so much😍‼️

It may not be possible to make it thinner than this, but I will try another wood next time.
Making a chisel like this is an art in itself. Using it is another as well!

Japanese water stones, 1,000, 3,000, 6,000, 10,000 , lapping you'll do it. Must be hollow ground Japanese!
So I posted a gif of this on a woodworking discord, and people laughed while claiming it was wax.

Just got my first set... Took me 4 hours to polish up one yesterday... However, it is amazing. Fantastic job on the video sir!
Addictive isn't it! Heck, I like sharpening them more than dulling them!
Well, that was impressive!
Compliment for tutorial!!👍
Absolutely fantastic
I need YOU to sharpen my chisels!
This proves that paper is made from trees.
Everybody doubted it before but THIS finally proves it.
Well done. You made a rizzler
Just to clarify for people you are cutting glue here not wood.
plane can sharpen 0.1mm
Amazing does not begin to describe this!!
I bet one could shave with that chisel.
Da stimmt was nicht: Was da abgeschält wird, ist kein Holz, sondern eine Schicht ohne Holzstruktur!
Holz "schnurrt", wenn es so geschnitten wird...
That's oddly satisfying to watch.
Wow that’s scary sharp. I wish I could get my chisels that sharp. And use them as well as that. 👍👍
Okay, where can I order 10,000 sheets of cherry paper? Man the spliff you could roll with that.
That’s how they make that paper for American Cheese!
The beauty of precision and an experienced craftsman

Δεν έχω ξαναδεί κάτι παρομοιο... Και κόντρα κιόλας!!
OK, I have two questions, what kind of chisel is it and how did you sharpen it. It's amazing
Japan chisel
And that children is what sharp looks like. .
Ahh, so thats how they made roller papers
It's wonderful to cut Japanese hinoki (cypress) for thin shavings. Other woods is not possible
Thank you 😆!! ️ Cypress is my favorite wood because it is easy to cut and looks beautiful.
Χειροποίητη εργασία υψηλής ακριβείας με ένα μόνο απλο εργαλείο . Αδιανόητο!
ευχαριστώ😆‼️
Its not all about the sharpness, its straightness is more important
Yessss
I see a lot of comparisons for western chisels like Narex, etc. but I think I'm going to save up for a good set of Japanese chisels.
Robert, Hide Tools out of Los Angeles is the place to go for Japanese chisels.
This is amazing to a maximum... I love the japanese craftsmanship... far superior to the german one.
Best regards from the Northern black forerst 🌲🌿🌳
Thank you 😆!! I am very proud as a Japanese person to hear that! I love precision tools such as German measuring instruments and use them often😍
@@AKHIRA_1985 : You are very modest and symphatic - I leave you subscription and bell there 🙂
I love u all
I thought you were going to show us how you get to that amazing edge...
Me toooo 😢
Nagura water stones. Look them up, they're incredible. I use them to strop my axes.
Fake polythene
It's mostly about preparing the wood end with oil or water
i get an amaying edge almost 20 times a day man, feels great
That chisel was coming awfully close to the skin on his finger!😮
What brand are the chisels?
If you ever doubted that paper is wood, well

Cela n’est pas un copeaux mais une couche de colle vinylique

I didn't know it took that long to make paper. Explains the price of books.
Well, it sure is nice that it can cut a layer of glued paper. Can he do it with wood too?
Nesse perfil de corte cortando as fibras , essa folha não ia quebrar?
Looks like baking paper.
Peeling off *GLUED* paper (tape)? 🧐🤔
Lets see Paul Allen's Chisel

That was sweet :-)
It's just a clear film he put on before hand.
plane can sharpen 0.1mm
ありがとう⛩️🎏🙏🏽
What size chisel is this? 42mm, 48mm?
thank you! This is 36mm😆👍
So that's how they make papers 😮
Hi,
Amazing!!!
What is the angle of the chisel?
There are 2 angles right?
Two layers of different hardness
Yes 2 angles
Does the wood need to be oiled or prepared or is it purely just the sharpness of the chisel?
A little water on the wood! The rest is the sharpness of the chisel😆‼️
can you use it to chop tomatoes
So that's how tracing paper is made
Reminds me of the toilet paper in jail
Is this the hand-shaved artisanal toilet paper I've been hearing about?
哇!!怎麼磨的?
Is that a hollow grind on the chisel?
Yes!
@@AKHIRA_1985 thanks, I’ve been thinking of trying some Japanese style chisels for carving for a while and you may have just pushed me to go for it :)
That's one way to make paper...
Yes😆‼️
The MacGuyver smoker....
Is it the chisel? Or is it the wood?
Best for rolling paper
So that's how they make paper 📜
This ia how it felt in kindergarten putting glue on your fingers and peeling ot off 10 minutes later.
Can i borrow that zigzag bro?
What kind of wood is this?
Semplicemente straordinario

Paper made from wood? What will science think of next?
What is the maker of the chisel ?
Sorry, I got it from an acquaintance and I don't know the manufacturer. The only thing I can say is that it's a common chisel, not a particularly expensive one!
@@AKHIRA_1985but what is a quality of steel it's made of ? Any sharping will fail soon on the soft steel material
He can come sharpen my kitchen knives
Japanese knives are top class, but they are useless if they cannot be sharpened properly.
what about douglas fir?
I would like to try it if I have the chance😆👍
@@AKHIRA_1985lol
If someone told me that was possible I probably wouldn't have believed them and I did carpentry a college
If that were any thinner it would only have one side
Во как..а я болгаркой точу за 10 секунд на руках, если затупилась..и все отлично. 😂
Any decent English chisel will do the same thing. Cabinet maker for 50 yrs.
Show us doubt it.
Japanese are Master Craftsman.
Как классно инструмент снимает листик чего-то, что не ведёт себя как дерево, срезанное против волокон:).
Wow!
Luar biasa tajam pisau dan skil pemahat yg mantap
thank you😆‼️
