I do agree it's nice, even though she's already played it :3 I know the game inside out but I always appreciate creators who make their vids accessible for new viewers, you know?
god, I forgot how terrifying this game was concept wise...Imagine waking up 100 years in the future at the bottom of the ocean with no organic life nearby and everything shut down? I would evaporate
@@Gloomcookie96 eh, not really, but the concept is quite similar. Soma is really terrifying not because of monsters and jumpscares but because of questions it asks and what it makes you consider - so not quite horror game in it's usual presentation. Please keep watching further as it only gets much more interesting!
As someone who lived in Toronto I love the real locations in the game. Simon even got off at the right subway station for Toronto's transit system, St Patrick Station goes to Mt Sinai Hospital. Nice touches.

7:50 I have a friend with a serious illness the doctors don't know hot to treat, so he's basically on always on the brink of death, and this is exactly how all of our conversations go to be honest. When death is such a constant threat, you just gotta find humour wherever you can to keep sane.
I can't believe this gem is already 8 years old... I was still a teenager when it came out and it remains one of the only games that put me on edge during that time! Unfortunately, I cant go back to the comfort creator i watched play it originally, so it makes me really happy that I found Gab and am able to keep the fond memories I have, all thanks to her ♡ As silly as it may seem, I lost access to a big chunk of memories from that previous creator- things/games from youth that I can no longer look back on and enjoy the same way I used to. Being allowed to reminisce means everything to me.. so thank you for being that safe place, even today, Gab! third time rewatching this playthrough but certainly not the last ^^ 💖🕊
I was meaning to watch your first SOMA playthrough but didn't want to get spoiled. Just played it earlier this year, and it really REALLY lives up to the hype.
there's a part later in the game where you're walking on the ocean floor again, and I jumped off the edge of a cliff into the abyss to see what would happen, and the robo-buddy came and saved me from dying
13:20 he is probably doing his doctorate in Computer Science. When he referred to him as doctor, that would likely be PhD (or MD PhD), which would make sense in this situation. There would likely be others involved in the treatment.
Just wanted to clear some things up on the 'not a doctor' thing. The reason why Munshi clarified that he is not a doctor yet is because he is still a doctorate/graduate students. Essentially, he and Berg are more than likely working on their doctoral thesis. They have a theory that their program can 'heal' the brain artificially before they apply the physical treatment method to the actual brain, saving time, money, and physical pain. It is not uncommon for graduate students to seek assistance from doctor offices that agree with their theory and to have civilian volunteers to help prove the hypothesis of their theories. Having a thesis be successful or even ground breaking can catapult one's career quickly as a doctor
i was JUST watching your previous play through!! and wishing you would play it again. Can't wait to hear your reactions. I love watching you play through things a second time and hearing your analysis! thanks Gabs
Soma: From the Attic Greek σῶμα. Like many other words of the classic Greek, its exact meaning is lost to us. We can only infer its meaning through the way the word was used in the text that survived. Roughly, it can be translated as "body", or "corpse". But the actual meaning is something like "the shell that once was the physical manifestation of one's self in the world and that carried one's presence to others". Soma was only used in the context of a thing that is considered as in possess of consciousness and personality, in other words, a person, a god, or a thinking entity of some sorts. Only things that had soul are soma. In terms: a human corpse is soma, a cow corpse isn't. The exact meaning is unknown because: 1. some animals are considered to be vessels for some entities or gods. When these animals died, their corpses were soma too? We don't know. 2. some people that suffered of some types of mental illnesses are considered to had "lost" their souls while still living. The corpses of those people weren't soma? We don't know. These two points are very important to understand the exact meaning of the word "soma", and we don't have any evidence that can elucidate them. We can only especulate about it.
I thought I knew this game, that I already watched a playthrough of it. Apparently I didn't, I don't remember anything from the beginning. Well then! Excited to discover this!
I've do this game 5 years ago. I enjoyed. But when I see you begin a Let's play on this, instead of watching you playing it, it gave me the idea to do it again on my own. I ended up by finish the game yesterday at midnight practically in one run (which I never do usually) I have to thank you for this because it was a total rediscovery for me. Don't know if I change so much since the time I playing it or if the fact that I made it in one round made me fully appreciate the density of the story. It's simply a *masterpiece* in every aspect of it : the ambiance, the sound-design, the level design, the minimal aspect (No HUD, no inventory, no menu, no obvious point objective on the screen to tell you where you have to go) and, in my opinion, one the most well-written video game of all time. A truly psychological/science fiction/horror that doesn't forget what "Psychological" really mean. With solid references - the most obvious one was, of course, the work of Philip K.Dick which is quoted at the beginning of the game - it made me think especially of Total Recall (Never read the novel but the Paul Verhoeven's movie was a gem of my childhood) and Ubik. And also some films of David Cronenberg for the fusion of flesh and high technology with all the WAU stuff. There's so much more to say about this game... But my comment is already long enough ! It will stuck on me for a long time and I'll definitely watch your let's play in a few times to see your impression on it. A tremendous thank you to the team of Frictionnal Games for doing this. What a journey !
Already saw your Twitch livestreams in the past few days and I have to say that I'm really glad that you played Soma again, this is one hell of a game. SO GOOD!
I watched this game when it first came out start to finish and to this day I think about the ethical and moral debates it brought forth. Really happy you are doing a play through of this because the conversations and new perspectives from new players is always refreshing for this game.
I'm glad you're revisiting all these great games even though you've done playthroughs of them before. Each one you seem to be having a much better time than the first time around. It's extremely enjoyable!
I love you're long playthroughs! I got hooked after Ghost of Tsushima and just finished Alice. I play these while I'm falling asleep and they've really helped my insomnia. Would love to catch more streams in the future!
I actually was about to start watching your previous Soma playthrough because you were recommending this game on your streams and I'm so happy you are replaying it and I can watch it!
Wow, it's crazy to see a game take place in Toronto. I know those subway stops. I'm curious if the characters are Canadian because the humour of 'good luck with that whole dying thing' is very much our humour.
I was one of the first people who knew the 2015 game was SOMA. I went to Twitch, saw the last stream of this game you've played. Five years had past since this game was released!

What I love about this game is how hopeless the story is. I won't go into specifics for people who are watching along, but I've never seen a game just go so hard on how irrevocably FUCKED everyone is in the setting. You only see it in movies (without spoilers, I won't name them) but I found the horror of the game came from that very real existential dread, that no matter what, you lost. It's just mitigating how badly you lost after a certain point.
You missed quite a few things rushing through; One was your little robot buddy fleeing in terror when you "killed" the other robot in front of him. Also, the health things are actually a bad thing, and they take power from an area, so you want to investigate everything around that area before using it. Not trying to be a butt, just hoping to help fill in some things.
I saw the first playthrough you did over the weekend when you played it on console earlier in the past. That was really great. I also did start my second run of this game.
