I wonder if he was for the next round of experiments, as the grandfather mentions that he needs more subjects after the last child dies, but maybe the grandfather died after getting him, but the child had already hidden to get away from the experiments and got trapped and as the grandfather was dead, there was no one to release him?
Me, I wonder if Nick's inclusion was a development gag: a fifth ghost whose role and/or programming didn't quite work out, whose skeleton was placed in the game as a nod to the cut material.
Fun fact: Fatal insomnia, the disease that killed Anna, results in a complete inability to sleep -- no matter how tired you feel, you _can't_ sleep. Patients who develop the disease increasingly show signs of cognitive deterioration, hallucinations, wild mood swings, motor coordination issues... until finally, they simply shut down completely and _die._ Sometimes real life is scarier than any horror story.
@@dylansiccardi3517 There's conflicting evidence as to whether or not that'd do anything, but even if it treats the symptoms temporarily, it'd do nothing to prevent the patient's condition from deteriorating over time -- it'd be palliative care at best, providing some measure of comfort for the patient's final months of life.
i see, unfortunatly i was afraid it wouldn't work on the long term, it's a shame it doesn't decrease the severity of the symptoms. I guess you were right sometimes real life can be scarier than horror games. @@Nitrinoxus
This is true! I have really bad insomnia, and if I go for more than 5 days without sleep and start to hallucinate, I have to go to the hospital, where they put me to sleep.
One of the horrifying things in this is that his wife was clearly complicit in all this. Her name was listed right alongside his as having adopted all four children and they lived in the main house until the experiments began. When Joe first came to live with his grandparents those kids were probably still dying downstairs. His grandfather seemingly didn't send him away until his wife died and there was no one to care for Joe upstairs. So he paid to send him to boarding school year round and carefully saved all the postcards he was sent but never spoke to his grandson again. I guess all that he'd done must have weighed on him eventually since there are bottles of alcohol (the grog he made?) all over the house, which is in disrepair, and often near the postcards from Joe. The kids' ghosts probably watched over Joe as a child before he was sent away. That's probably why they trusted him considering all adults had done to them.
I wish there had been a third option: make all this published so everyone knows what horrible things the grandfather did and drag his name and all the implicated through the mud
The fact that the orphaned kids went through all of that just for some stupid test that will never work bc the body needs rest is what makes me mad the most. They obviously didn’t deserve that..and i wonder why “nick” was locked in that little crawl space and was never found until then and who he was since there was little mentioned about him
@@leeelahglitz47 in Joe's case, I think the grandfather paid the boarding school to hold him likely due to a mixture of Couldn't Quite Bring Himself to Experiment on a Family Member and Wanted Him Out of the Way. I'm curious about Nick too, as the note said something about "I knew this would get out of hand" and he didn't have a bed in the kid space so was he an assistant/researcher also? A relative? An older orphan?
I wonder if nick hid in there to get away from the experiments and accidentally locked himself in? Or got stuck? Otherwise he was murdered and it isn't addressed at all in the story... weird..

I was surprised by the amount of scientific knowledge it was giving out! So obvious we know that less sleep means low performance, but that's because our brain has already set amount of chemicals which are related by trigger factors such a that of the eyes which are connected to the hypothalamus. Even one trigger like a small yawn may get that chemical called Melatonin reduce the amount of Neurotransmitting, that is, the electric signals our central nervous system (CNS), brain and spine carries through the nerves. The grandpa in the game was developing a way to reduce this hence he kept the children "stimulant free" so that they don't have an excuse to sleep or nothing around them psychologically or physiologically induces sleep. But the brain itself can get tired hence he started giving them Phenylalanine which do not let the nerves shut down. Basically he gave them drugs to control sleep but messed up with the charts which caused severe systemic failure. In the end he proved nothing but that adequate sleep increases brain and body function. He was obviously wrong about keeping people awake because our mind works on gratification, we give it what it demands and it will do what we want it to. So we use to store information and analyze it and it demands nothing but stimulation for conducting information and sleep. So in the end while accessing the computer we made nothing but some chemical equivalent to Dopamine. I am sure the creators just wanted to end it without the game becoming too scientific hence the blast conclusion. I enjoyed watching this so much!
I don't understand why they didn't just do experiments with non-human animals 😭 Since sleep is a necessary biological function in a vast range of lifeforms. Even jellyfish sleep! It's clearly something that evolved pretty early on and you can't just easily "turn it off" without causing tons of other problems. If evolution could have gotten rid of sleep by now - since sleep actually leaves you quite vulnerable and takes away from time you could spend eating or any other thing conducive to life/survival - I think it probably would have already happened for SOME organism out there. Even if there were such a "solution" to be found, I don't think it would be at all a straightforward solution; it would probably be incredibly complex, and probably not even worth it to try to manually induce in humans.
@@Invalidationcoded The only thing I can think of in terms of evolution eliminating or working around sleep is how dolphins undergo hemispheric sleep cycles rather than whole-brain sleep cycles, which leaves them capable of responding to stimulus with the hemisphere of the brain that is in a wakefulness state. Even then, inducing that kind of state in humans would likely cause a whole host of problems ranging from the relatively mundane sleepwalking (keeping in mind that sleepwalkers only really respond to stimulus in a vague and illogical way) all the way up to a division of mind across the corpus callosum creating two divergent individuals within the brain (which there isn't much evidence for except in cases of damage to the corpus callosum - I'm just in the realm of science fiction spitballing here for examples of what could go wrong. Without any data, it's reasonable to assume that as long as the brain had a time where it was wholly awake, the two hemispheres would 'catch back up' to each other and reunify.)
@@Invalidationcoded I agree the choice to test on humans, and in such an extreme and clearly ineffective way, seems illogical. My best guess is that the grandfather thought he could manually keep them awake longer/easier? (like board games for the one already insomniac girl) but I definitely think it just falls into horror trope of "they're orphans so they won't be missed, let's just do terrible things to them!" And as mysteriously dead Nick's note suggested, this whole endeavor went farther than it should've and resulted from an unchecked obsession so the grandfather probably wasn't thinking logically himself at that point. (though the other two labs are a bit worrisome, but we do see that the grandfather had enough money to ship Joe off to boarding school that could be paid to Prison Hold him till 18 so... Money+obsession+twisted morals = untold, multiple, horrendous crimes)

My migraines have been acting up so much lately, so I can relate! I’m either in a migraine, pre-migraine, or having that lovely hangover after a migraine feeling. Brain empty indeed 🤕

I suffer from chronic pain as well but don't know much about the accompanying symptoms. I relate to this so much and am relieved that there are others going through the same thing I am!
I'm a haikyuu fan, and I also read fanfiction, so the moment you read Anna's cause of death I was immediately reminded of a fanfic called In Another Life that tought me about Fatal Familial Insomnia. Poor Anna went through something absolutley horrible. It pretty much forces you to not be able to sleep, by waking up your body the moment you pass out until you eventually die because you have gone so long without being able to sleep that your brain begins to destroy itself. It's a horrible way to die because it's such a slow death that will literally drive you insane before it kills you. I feel so sorry for that kid.
After what felt like 2 hours of my smol brain trying to remember, that piano bit reminded me of Evil Within, lots of little cameo's to other horror movies/games not sure if thats correct but loved the playthrough!
very creative, I loved the external floppy drive and the green screen monitor, and the DOS commands. that is late 1970 early 1980's technology and the delete screen was the best. what really giggle was the drawing on the floor with chalk. Awesome
1:06:46 in the subject of references, that picture in the video right before number 5, is the Amityville child ghost. The actual picture is propably fake but i find it kinda cool they did put it in this game.
Responding to when "reciprocity" sounds weird at 59:14, at that word I always think of it being sung dramatically in "Chicago" by Mama Morton in the intro to her song.
Charlie’s passing into the afterlife allowed him to transcend time and become a fan of Garnet from Steven Universe (based on him humming a totally different song from the one played on the piano) 😆
At 44:35, the kid 'Charlie' was humming a small phrase from the Steven Universe song sung by Garnet called "Stronger than you" which is oddly fitting in a sad sense. But nice nod to the creators of the game (if that was the intentional)
as someone watching this while sick and half asleep from medicine, i got jump scared by a obnoxiously loud ad as soon as she said “the music is crescendoing dont u think.”
oh man, this turned out so cool! (SPOILERS): I wonder what would've happened if you chose to keep going with the project? would the kids have come after you at the end? I feel like you got the "good ending" (which i love, and would have gotten too, probably) but i still wonder what the alternative would have been xD I also LOVE how some words were misspelt throughout the game in the medical notes etc, because obviously the lack of sleep affects the brain's performance and little things like spelling a word wrong were a great way to bring that across!
Never said what happened to the Gran666 Scientist /Doctor¿ Gab... Do you think the kids Spirits got to Avenge themselves, before Joe arrived, & set their long trapped Spirit's free? Do you suppose, that the Doctor also had taken his serum too? What killed Gramp's?.. Too many questions, still. Did Nick hide in the cupboard? Why was Nick not found? The song on the Radio the kids sing, is not accurate, they would never have been able to leave, the ?Orphanage? Unless it's literally them dying, as the timing of their death's? 🕜💀🕞💀🕜💀🕞 🧸💀🧩🎀🧩📻🧩 ⚕️⬛ 💖🤦🏻♀️🐶💖🌎💖 With the Doctor X perimenting on them. Too chancey, by the way Gab, you should get some sleep... Everyone needs to, every now & again. Good job, Gab. Thank you, enjoyed that, for once kids are not seen as A Demon Child... Just poor kids who were killed, by bad Medical Experiments, by a Crazy idiot Doctor. I personally survived, bad meds, & evile Doctor malpractice. But I survived, so no one truly cared, to stop my monster. Sadly this happens alot, but no one is there to stop it. 💖💀🕸️💀🕸️💀🕸️💀💖🤘🏼 🥽🩹💉🌡️🧸⚗️🧪
tbh i think that the miss spelling of some words and the occasional grammatical error might be because english isnt the developers first language, because no where does it indicate that the grandfather was taking the serum himself, but i could be wrong
(Spoilers for bad ending) I looked it up what happens when you save the data. the kids will lock you in and come after you and you hear Joe screaming and the kids giggle :)
was expecting spooks, not sadness 😅. Damn. The shit these children had to go through..I would have destroyed the research. On the one hand it makes me feel bad for doing so, because then everything those kids went through feels almost pointless, but on the other hand if some other crazy asshole got ahold of it more kids would suffer. Then as the main character I can't even imagine coming across all of this. Not hearing from your grandpa for years, finally being able to come up and you walk into this mess. I don't blame him one bit for being angry
Side note, the game is reminding me of the creepy song "Circle You, Circle You." Was originally a vocaloid song, I think, but I fell in love with Lizz Robinett's cover. Can't get that song out of my head while watching this playthrough...
I recall it being originally Japanese, but not Vocaloid. It's a children's song that belongs to a children's game. I think they're playing it in the mv of the Vocaloid version too. I did not check again though, so I might be wrong. Edit: Not trying to, Idk, lecture you or something, just thought it might be interesting to know.
I'm only halfway, and I got to go so I'm finishing the video tomorrow but as of now, every time Anna appears I just feel so sad for her. And she keeps helping you? I'll see how the other half of the video goes but right now I'm liking Anna, she's a little creepy but also adorable. edit: I'm back and continuing the video. Ohhh there's multiple kids. They're all kinda creepy but also adorable. ,, Oh gosh poor kiddos T_T ps: the scares are hilarious. I love watching other people play scary games cause I just find it so frickin funny whenever they get startled. the funniest was the one where you were in the middle of a sentence and the mannequin walked off and you were like GASP and just continued talking as if nothing happened :"D
also the music on the record player sounded exactly like a toned down version of the theme song for the Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets on PS2… that one that was used on the main menu and in the game trailer.
When I saw that Beth had wraps covering her eyes, I thought about how she wrote her name backwards. I figured that the "doctor" had done surgery on her because she had dyslexia and it went terribly wrong. I haven't finished the video yet, so maybe that is the case.
Painted door and kids drawing in walls reminds me to Layers of Fear, also anyone concerned as me that no one relative to the grandpa or from the city/village/zone he lives told the protagonist his grandpa died? Sus🙀💀
Am I the only one that remembered Markiplier played the demo of this game like years ago? I only remember that because I loved the demo so much but this was just amazing! Hats off for such an amazing game!
Demon children are less scary when they just stand there while you're free to just check them out from every angle. No wonder horror games usually know better than to let you do that.
*you need to go in the windows mouse settings and unselect "enhance pointer precision" for some reason this option makes the dpi of mouse 10times more then you are in game. i learn it from gameranx* 10:54 *your observation skills become sharper young Gabby one*
Reminds me of little nightmares, and yes. In real life this shit happened, happens. It doesn't get better. This is why community and participation in community is vital for mankind. We must check on one another to make sure we don't go into the deep end, and don't drag other more undeserving souls with us. God damn all those kids died because one prick decided to play god.
I suffer from chronic migraines and have hypersensitivity to light and sound... Video game devs need to learn to put lower than lowest head bob and mouse/camera sensitivity in their games lol 😂

Working by listening to you playing horror games is just perfect
did anyone else notice charlie humming "stronger than you" while gab was figuring out that puzzle with him on the table?
I'm too much of a wimp for these games so I'm glad I can watch Gab play through them instead ☺️
After what felt like 2 hours of my smol brain trying to remember, that piano bit reminded me of Evil Within, lots of little cameo's to other horror movies/games not sure if thats correct but loved the playthrough!
Was so excited hearing/reading Roman Castevet as a name! Rosemary's Baby is one of my all time favourite movies. The RE one too. So good
very creative, I loved the external floppy drive and the green screen monitor, and the DOS commands. that is late 1970 early 1980's technology and the delete screen was the best. what really giggle was the drawing on the floor with chalk. Awesome
Loved this not what i expected at all . Another gem thanks gab🖒
I get major Resident Evil vibes with the mansion, the way the trash is set up to show disuse, etc.
Character”wtf?” Zombie on ceiling crawling by. Gab unfazed waves 😂
I absolutely love the sheet ghost painting in the dining room 😂 I would totally have this in my house.
Gab's ability to sound out random english words never fails to impress me
'don't need to be so bitter about someone abandoning you' LMAO GAB I LOST IT!!
1:06:46 in the subject of references, that picture in the video right before number 5, is the Amityville child ghost. The actual picture is propably fake but i find it kinda cool they did put it in this game.
I played the demo to this a couple years ago. I’m glad to see they turned it into an actual game. I may have to check it out myself
No, the chairs weren't like that when you first went in the kitchen. It's a Poltergeist reference, I'm pretty sure.
This game really good tho, they play my favorite sheet notes Nocturne Op9 No2 44:09
Thank you so much for listing what the piano piece was! I was going to loose my mind trying to figure out what it was.
@@wyrmiii4231 the name is literally a few seconds before at 44:04, lol
Criminally underrated game I thought I was the only one that played it and put it on UA-cam. It needs more attention.
Goobers Uploads are at 1 am here in tge PH, but I am always ready! 😉
Pinoy Goobers, hell yeaaaah!
🙌🙌
as someone watching this while sick and half asleep from medicine, i got jump scared by a obnoxiously loud ad as soon as she said “the music is crescendoing dont u think.”
Who else's mind went straight to Mayor Lewis's purple shorts around 14:10?
Whenever there is a horror game that involves an orphanage, my mind immediately goes to Rule of Rose 😰🌹
I have been in love with your channel lately! The vibes are great and your voice is beautiful. Looking forward to watching a lot more videos!
The statue at 15:00 scared the heck out of me 😭💀 I should know better than to watch these videos at midnight 😂
I'm gonna use that word now "bequeath" 😂 loving all your videos gab! Thank you for the entertainment during these times 🙂
D:> that poor kid! i can't imagine being ditched by my only family
oh man, this turned out so cool!
(SPOILERS):
I wonder what would've happened if you chose to keep going with the project? would the kids have come after you at the end? I feel like you got the "good ending" (which i love, and would have gotten too, probably) but i still wonder what the alternative would have been xD
I also LOVE how some words were misspelt throughout the game in the medical notes etc, because obviously the lack of sleep affects the brain's performance and little things like spelling a word wrong were a great way to bring that across!
🕜💀🕞💀🕜💀🕞 🧸💀🧩🎀🧩📻🧩
⚕️⬛ 💖🤦🏻♀️🐶💖🌎💖
With the Doctor X perimenting on them.
💖💀🕸️💀🕸️💀🕸️💀💖🤘🏼
🥽🩹💉🌡️🧸⚗️🧪
tbh i think that the miss spelling of some words and the occasional grammatical error might be because english isnt the developers first language, because no where does it indicate that the grandfather was taking the serum himself, but i could be wrong
(Spoilers for bad ending)
I looked it up what happens when you save the data. the kids will lock you in and come after you and you hear Joe screaming and the kids giggle :)
This game is just dripping with atmosphere, it totally has Resident Evil vibes.
So glad I’m not the only one who has mouse sensitivity issues with this game
was expecting spooks, not sadness 😅.
LOL "Death awaits, ok, not going through THAT door" XD
That framed ghost just means that grandpa is a huge Phoebe Bridgers fan.
I love watching other people play scary games cause I just find it so frickin funny whenever they get startled. the funniest was the one where you were in the middle of a sentence and the mannequin walked off and you were like GASP and just continued talking as if nothing happened :"D
the Farewell Joe... something was really wrong with that word in the line.. it creeped me out
also the music on the record player sounded exactly like a toned down version of the theme song for the Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets on PS2… that one that was used on the main menu and in the game trailer.
I liked how the camera Gab walked by had its indicator light turned from green to red after the formatting of the PC
When I saw that Beth had wraps covering her eyes, I thought about how she wrote her name backwards. I figured that the "doctor" had done surgery on her because she had dyslexia and it went terribly wrong. I haven't finished the video yet, so maybe that is the case.
So Grandpa invented supermeth.
This game is so tragic yet you can't stop watching because I just want to know what happens next.
Its all fun and games until one of the ghost kids has your name
1:07:01 that one picture of the kid on the stairs in the film reel is an actual picture of a ghost from the Amityville Horror House.
Painted door and kids drawing in walls reminds me to Layers of Fear, also anyone concerned as me that no one relative to the grandpa or from the city/village/zone he lives told the protagonist his grandpa died? Sus🙀💀
the grandfather is named after the neighbors from Rosemary's baby what an amazing reference
I just found you through your old clock tower series! I love how many horror games you play so I decided to stay :)
How is Gab so calm playing these
Never seen a game set in Leeds before! 🙌🏻🙌🏻
I just watched your video of The Wine before this one, and I was surprised to see the Banydebosc wine at 18:48
Wow, great observation! Both devs are from Spain and follow each other on twitter, very cool homage
I love Gab playing horror games. Most awaited!!
Your new hair suits you so much Gab!
What a great story!! This was awesome!! Your commentary was great, Gab!
Not a whole lot scares me. I will happily sit and play horror games all day long. But kids? Scary as frick, man.
You make games so much fun to watch. Thank you for being you. ❤
How did i only JUST find your channel. You're amazing!
Am I the only one that remembered Markiplier played the demo of this game like years ago? I only remember that because I loved the demo so much but this was just amazing! Hats off for such an amazing game!
More than £15K electricity bill… finally, a horror game which is genuinely scary!
38:32 the way you casually just went back into finishing your sentence lolol
I just stumbled on your channel and I love your sense of humor! I'll be subing up!!
I love all your indie horror playthroughs 💚
Demon children are less scary when they just stand there while you're free to just check them out from every angle. No wonder horror games usually know better than to let you do that.
*you need to go in the windows mouse settings and unselect "enhance pointer precision" for some reason this option makes the dpi of mouse 10times more then you are in game. i learn it from gameranx*
10:54 *your observation skills become sharper young Gabby one*
There are many painting anomalies in this video...
Love all the horror references in this, even besides RE.
Definitely have silent hill - resident evil feel! Watching it now!
wow actually a really interesting game! I enjoyed watching
Grog = Alcohol. Love, an Australian. 😂💖
I just found your channel randomly and love it ❤️🔥
Gab playing scary games..automatic like! ☺️
