Interesting side note: To those of you that are attempting to put an aftermarket stereo in, and are hoping to buy a factory stereo wiring harness adapter to avoid cutting and splicing wires, they used the same plug and pin-outs on the GMC/Chevy `88 to `94 (think 94 was the last year) pickups. (The ones with the actual stereo under the dash just above the gas pedal.) So if for some reason you can't find one listed for this Saturn, grab one for an `88 Silverado and it'll work.
Your videos are extremely helpful, thank you. You will never know how many people you have helped. God bless, and keep up the great work.
Thank you.
Hey sir, I thank you for video. This is exactly what I wanted to know. You give great details and I am glad there people like who take the time to do this. I know it's not rocket science but for someone who doesn't know much about radios this helps and saves me money. Thank you good sir!
Hey thanks a lot for the video, I now have a new radio installed because of this and it didn't take as long as I thought it would.
This playlist is like gold for my Saturn. Thanks!
Thanks for the video! I just replaced my radio by myself, I can't believe it was that easy!!
Just got my first car, its a 95 Sl1, you have helped me. Good man
Im getting a new radio for my Saturn I cant wait:) thanks for making this video man
Rich
thanks,, this is very helpful, and explained very well. I love your accent too. I wonder if people will appreciate my NY/NJ accent, when I do some How to videos.

RichPIn Youre a GENIOUS! THANKS FOR ALL THE VIDEOS...THEY'VE BEEN SO HELPFUL AND MONEY SAVERS TOO!
thanks for the kind words
Saved me a headache, Thank You so much!!!
Great video I just bought a very low mileage 99 saturn sc2 but it doesn't have a cd player and radio sucks so I needed this video.
@valuptuous1016 Whats great about the Saturn s-series is the plastic panels don't rust so the car can be 11-12 years old and still look good.
Thanks for your help. I will try this this weekend. BTW Happy New Year.
Thanks Richpin, another great video.
I have a couple of questions, which I must break into a few coments.
My daughter got a a new stereo and sub for Christmas from her very generous big brother. We installed it in her 97 Saturn SL2. As usual I started with your site before starting any work. The install went great and the stereo sounds really good, the only problem is, the car will no longer start. It started to kick in for a second or two, twice then died.
Thank you for the info. Looks super easy.
Thanks for the Intructional video....big help
i needed to know how to get behind the stereo
@ThebigHurtt Check the power wires (yellow and orange) from the radio to the fuse box paying special attention to were they go into the back of the fuse panel.
@MrRaiders6769 A new radio might fix the problem because i suspect the problem is in the old one.Second problem have you ever replace the engine coolant temp sensor and the connector and cleaned the throttle body and the IAC valve.
Very well done video! Thanks, I'll not mess up my daughter's dash when replacing her car stereo now.
Thanks! Very clear and concise.
@valuptuous1016 Yours has the equalizer which is the added part but i think the procedure for removing is the same.
thanks so much!! very good video helps so much!!
@MrRaiders6769 Yes i just checked and there are no google ads on this video maybe half of all the videos i have, have them.
Thanks for your help richpin, I'll try it.
GOD BLESS YOU for making this video!!!! Thanks so much.
Glad it was helpful!
Hey this was really helpful, thanks.
Thank you sir I got a 95 Saturn it's got a lock code on it so I got a little Bluetooth radio I'm going to put in it thanks again
RichPin... Dude... Great Videos for the average guy! I learn so much from you vids. Do you have one for replacing Dashboard Componets like switches, dials on the SL Series? I've worked on most parts of a car but Dashboards kick my butt everytime. I either break them because of hidden connections... or break something else. Tips & Tricks like you show are PRICELESS!!!
Thanks to your video,I was able to easily install an aftermarket jvc radio in my 96 sc2. now, I have to figure out how to put a new passenger side window motor in. You must have worked for saturn cause of how much you know how they were assembled. thanks again. john
@valuptuous1016 If you forgot your code you have to call your retailer to reset the radio.
Yes do the spark test by removing the wires from the coil and see if you are getting spark.
Thanks for by providing the steps by taking off the radio. Will I have any issues by adding a new radio? Do I need to use the existing bracket from the old radio to the new one?
Any standard din radio with adapter will fit.
I have some on removing the instrument clusters.
Thanks Richpin for the detailed explanation on how to remove the car radio in a 1995 Saturn SL2. I have one that the radio works fine but I have a cassette adpater that plays my iPod and it's stuck in the cassette player. The radio works after a few seconds but I need to remove the cassette adapter. Can you tell mw how I could do that?
@Bass2Intense No it is different.
wow thanks for the super speed reply! i shall try tomorrow. so if i get an after market one it won't blow n e more? THANKS
@markcanflow The radio is bad.You can check it if you like by removing the radio fuse then remove the radio replace the radio fuse if it does not blow the radio was the problem.
@valuptuous1016 If it is in that kind of shape i might consider a new one.
Hey rich,
My radio dash light recently went out. It is annoying i cant even see the time or radio station especially driving at night. My cigarette lighter ring went out too. I still get current from the lighter. I guess bulb went out too or maybe not. What's should I do?
This video really helped how to take it out I got a 99 saturn to just bought it two weeks ago, But I got a sony xploid radio I want to put in and the Harness in the back is different from that harness for the radio already in the car how do I change the harnesses?
@ScubaStavee You are in luck yes it will apply
Ty for the video.
What inch screen size for after market touch screen radio can one fit to this car?
How can I change my driver side seat belt? And thank you I am learning a lot.
@MrRandall778 Never took one off with the eq
Part 3 of 3
I have changed batteries before and disconnected it to change the starter and crank case position sensor (with your help big time) and had no problem, but is was disconnected for a longer period this time.
3. Do you have any best guesses where to start looking for the problem.
Thanks so much!
Hey Mr. Richpin didn’t you use to have a How to Remove the Backseat Saturn S Series video?
I found a link on SaturnFans but it says the video was removed?
Question, for a Saturn SC2 94, the original radio works, but when I install a new one, it doesnt work, is there a way to find out compatible radios? (I tried using two different stereos)
Just wanted to kno if a touchscreen radio would go in this car
I totally agree with previous comment, but i am still waiting for a video of the removal and install of front struts on a 95 saturn SL1....lol
@princefx. If aftemarket-hookup issue. Still factory-buy adapter based on car and its plug and play.
can I get any radio for the install ? or are there certain ones that fit ?
Does it work when u rehook the old radio?
would changing out the radio make the cluster lights go out .
@PrinceFX Crutchfield is pretty good.
would it be pretty much the same on a 2001 sl1? i got a cd player in mine. Its okay if you dont know the answer...
I been able to troubleshoot it yet so I thought I should check with you to rule out a couple of possibilities first.
1. Does the factory Saturn radio (the one with the built in equalizer) tie into the security system, i.e. an engine immobilizer which could shut down the fuel system?
2. Does a Saturn suffer from a problem some cars from the 90s had in which they would loose their programming if the battery was disconnected for any length of time and require reprogramming at the dealership?
@MrRaiders6769 If you want to show your appreciation find my videos with the google adds off to the side and click on them they give me a few cents and it all adds up.Your radio problem sounds like a possible problem with the non switched power wire to the radio or something in the radio and if that is the case i would be looking at a new radio.
Thanks for posting . Have a question ,will another cd player in stall just as easy or not? I'm not to knowledge about these and would like to know. Thanks again .
+lakes2003 Some might need a kit a good place to check what you need is crutchfield.
hey richpin! everytime i turn on my radio the radio fuse(10a) blows out. what should i do to fix that?
hey richpin i have a question what gauge butt connectors should i buy to connect my harness I was at the auto parts store and they had different gauges ???
Blue 16-14 awg are the most common.
The junk yard would be good place to pick up some of those pins.
nice video, is it the same way for the one that has the equalizer and cd player?
Nick D Yes i believe it is all one unit.
could the cluster have a fuse
I need to know what kind-or type of wire harness I need for an 1998 Saturn SL to put in a new radio/ but do you have an email address
Thanks so much for this video, it is so helpful. I have one problem though, when I got my car from this guy, he obviously had taken out the dash cover before and lost those push pins on the side. Where can I get replacements for them because the rattling is driving me insane! Thanks again!
I lost one on one side and used a very thick screw to hold it in. It works ok.
Can you show my how to unlock this same radio once my battery has died and it is in LOC mode?
When you turn on you head lights it turns on the light in the radio.I bet you will find a blown fuse in the light circuit.
richpin06a my son wants me to put auxiliary or 3.5 mm male jack out of his factory 1997 Saturn SL2 radio that has cd player. can we wire one in or purchase aftermarket radio that has on in it?
+robert stokes There are ways to install a 3.5mm jack to a oem radio.I just put it on my video to do list.
As far as i know the radio can not disable the car.I have never had any problem on the Saturn in regards to it loosing programming.
I do not think modern radios have a separate power for the light in the radio.
What about the 1995 SC2
is the clock on the original meant to stay lit all the time.. i just bought a 98 and am worried it will drain the battery over time.
Yes the clock stays on all the time.I have let my 98 set for 2-3 days with no problem.
ok cool thank you
I've let mine set for a few months with no problem.
OK thanks
Hi Rich, I bought a 2005 Saturn Ion MP3 radio off Ebay to put in my 99 SL1. I did not get a pigtail with it and the connector on my 99 is different,
Do you know the pinout for that radio so I can modify my original connector to work?
If you send me your email i will send you a PDF file of the radio info.
Hi Rich, thank you for the prompt reply. My mail is tower327 at yahoo dot com
@@RichpinTv still have the file??????? Thanks
@valuptuous1016 To be on the safe side you might want to remove the negative cable from the battery.
how do I fix my radio to where I can install another one if a idiot tried to install a radio but cut the wires off the block piece
+Latoya Johnson I put it on my video to do list on how to fix it....it might be awhile though.
@richpin06a alright thanks
Hey Rich, I put a new radio in my 2002 Saturn and now I have no tail lights. What the hell did I do wrong?
same thing happened here
this was great, anyone have one on how to install a pioneer into this car
is it the same way for a 01 sw2
No it is different for the 00-02
*****
I just put it on my video to do list.
The only way i know how is to lift up the cassette with a screwdriver and grab it with needle nose pliers.
