The only one I can check in with is Selflessness but this was a cool run through. I do love the version Alice does with Charlie Haden and Pranesh Khan on the Berkeley bootleg from 72. That one is quite lush.

Hey again Sherv, Good to see you back. For sure, always nice being inspired by talks with friends, indeed...one of our favorite ones... 🙂Coltrane with Dolphy...sounds almost overwhelming in the best way. Am reminded that I've meant to replace my own copy of My Favorite Things. I really want to hear that one with Alice and Pharaoh and Offering...actually anything with Roy Haynes sparks my interest as well...A very nice cozy hangout as always here. 🙂 Glad to see you, again. -Carm

l don't think he did much, was on a couple of Alice records and a few other things but fell off the scene, maybe due to health reasons? it still baffles me that he died in 76

Shervin, Jim may be getting older, but he's also getting wiser. He deserves another Hendrix tee- shirt for inspiring this video. The Grateful Dead have so many easily available live recordings. I always found it interesting to talk to Deadheads about their favorite live version of a Dead tune. Their long strange trip makes it more fun, was it a version from the 60's, the 70's, the 80's , or the 90's. Coltrane's live performance career was of course, much shorter, so I never thought about Jim's Question. The version on ''Offering'' is also my top choice, Alice's piano is amazing and the sole bass player, Sonny Johnson gives a nice long solo intro to the song. The ''One Down, One Up'' version comes in at number two, Tyner and Jones create their own separate magic together, and with the full group as well!

once again l realize l missed some stuff during this.. l failed to mention Sonny Thompson on offering and didn't say anything about Alice's piano playing.... if l was talking to a deadhead l would ask what's your favorite live version of Stella Blue... and dammit that One Up One Down is really starting to bug me, like the one that got away

@@juliusjabbar1011 Shervin, the bass player, Sonny Johnson was Dewey Johnson's brother. I assume Coltrane chose Sonny because he was friendly with Dewey. ''Stella Blue'', live from Lexington, April,21, 1978.

I've never been that won over by Coltrane's version of My Favorite Things. I probably prefer the more mellow Kenny Burrell version. Actually I don't mind the Julie Andrew's version either. But you know, different strokes...
