Hey Sherv, great presentation and take on 10+1 Steeplechase records. Great picks. There are so many to choose from this absolutely fantastic label. Really what they did at Steeplechase was astounding with so many varied and talented players. A few of my favs(there are many) include Monnette Sudler TIME FOR A CHANGE KhanJamal, johnnyDyani PierreDorge’s THREE And Andrew Hill trio’s INVITATION. Also love stuff from Shirley Horn, ArchieSchepp, Doug Raney… man I could go on and on… peace and thx man!
you know, l still have never heard any Doug Raney. l like his dad's playing so much l feel like my expectaions are too high for Doug, but l should go for one his... the steeplechase l still want is Song For Biko.... peace man
Sherv, I dig your passion for the Steeplechase label. Spot on reviews of all the recordings. I really liked hearing that you bought the Claude Williams ''just because it was on the Steeplechase imprint''. That shows your high level of trust in a label that has been your Loyal Friend. ''Angolian Cry'' is my favorite from that label. Each musician transcends the ''limitations'' of their instrument and become Magicians. The music is filled with JOY despite the reality of despair echoed in the title of the album. I've got you and Buttery beat, my mother told me that I was born with a Rick Ballard Imports sticker wrapped around my umbilical cord!
I’ve about 50 Dexter albums, including at least 15 on steeplechase. For the past year “Lullaby for a Monster” has become my favourite. Dexter’s steeplechase I’d argue are as interesting as his Blue Notes. Thanks for highlighting one of my favourite labels 👏

First, excellent t-shirt. Nice collection here. A couple of these I’ll try to keep in mind while I’m out digging. In my incredibly small jazz collection, I only have one Steeplechase release. Duke Jordan’s Flight to Denmark. It’s really great. Good to see you, Sherv. Hope all is well out west. ✌🏻

i iust have a few walt records and the sudler sextet. have had some of the khan jamal records on the label but they're not very interesting in my opinion.
