I have to agree with dontbeadrone's comment. I watch off-grid cabin builds almost every morning as I drink coffee, hang with my animals and discuss the day with my wife. This video is my all time favorite! Thanks for posting and allowing an old man to live vicariously and dream big!
Build was great to watch. Couple of questions. Why not any insulation between your logs? Why no insulation in cabin? Why not burn underside of deck/porch since insects and dampness collect there? The end result was amazing. I hope it lasts!!
I've been in construction for over 55 years. I've never seen a more novel idea to build a "log cabin". Loved your unique way to overcome problems. Doing Shou Sugi Ban for preservation is so beautiful and long-lasting. Hats off to you. If I ever build a cabin....
U just built my dream cabin! When I retired I bought a band saw chain saws ect ect. Already owned property. Due to tragedy heart attack car wreck and deteriating health after 12 years still no cabin. Still on bucket list. This video has inspired me and showed me it still can be done! Thank you from a 67 year old disabled veteran from Sunflower 🌻 Alabama. God Bless,
Dont give up! Best of luck and I just turned 65 last week. Im also itching to get a mountain lot and similar build. I did it before at 30 years old, but my mistake was building it on a friend’s land. They said I could stay ten years, but after seeing how beautifully it was built, gave me three months to move on. … so they could move in. Live and learn. I just sold our ocean cruising sailboat Dec 31st, and hope to buy land, build cabin, and move in before Dec 31st this year. You know, his small timbers will save our backs.
My family runs a historic restoration company and we mainly specialize in log cabins and this one just looks absolutely amazing. I think you did a great job for a man working alone on a project like this.
Any chance you're located in Wisconsin because I have a historic 1920s log cabin that I want to preserve more than anyting I have a hard time finding labor to support that dream
You wouldnt say the poles set directly in cement is a bad foundation for the cabin? Where I come from, we cement galvanized iron which we then set the poles to? (bad english)
Oh wow. Thanks. I'm just a little old 82 year old lady that likes to build things. I can think of all sorts of small outbuildings I can do around here using that system and lighter wood. Thanks again.
I have watched something like 100 videos of off-grid cabin builds, from start to finish, and I think this one ranks as my favorite of all!!! I absolutely love your "logs." Wow, I think we still have it in us too however….. I do need water. I think I could manage if, we had the unit as what Off Grid had used but, even that would be as you, limit it to 5 months. Lol
I am glad to see others can show that necessity can overcome many adversities. I turn 75 in a few months and plan on building and moving to a log structure as I sold my house, and thought apartment living would see me out. But, with rent eating up a good portion of my modest income, and other expenses reducing my cash reserves from the sale of my house, I can see I need to find a cheaper place to live. A 20 x 24 log cabin is in my plans, and it will be built using this man's fantastic design as I can't afford to have someone build me one. This is a great alternative and, although I am sure I will have many, many aches and pains along the way and all my old injuries will be screaming at me to quit, I will just look forward to sitting on my front porch in the woods, or in front of a cozy wood fire on a cold winter night and thank God he gave me the strength to finish. I am an old man who wants to build something like this in Florida to keep my old mind occupied! What a great idea! God bless you!
It was surprising to see how expensive logs are. Hopefully this gives folks another option that is more cost friendly but still has a log cabin look and feel.
I live in the north of Scotland and my home is a log cabin made from Douglas fir. It’s like the three pieces screwed and glued at the start of this video but it’s made by carved long logs. It went together like Lego. We built in 2004 and it still looks lovely. The log walls are gorgeous inside. They’re sprayed with a clear fireproofing agent that will let naked flame burn for 2 hours without damaging the wood….we had to get that in order to get mortgage and insurance.
Once again my mind is blown. I never would have thought about the method you had chosen. Ingenious. You gotta be proud of that amazing cabin in the woods. Great filming of all the build God bless brother.
I'm 8 mins in...what was the cost...couldn't have been cheap...those boards have to be 35 bucks a piece?!? Great build Brother...about to start milling my 4x8s any day now!!!
You have made many envious I am sure. I never thought of using 2x8 lumber like that for a log. Very original and ingenious. Your cabin is very inspiring. Thank you for sharing your cabin build.
Nice work and I'm sure it was a fun project for ya. You'll have tons of fun and a whole bunch of memories to look back on in 20/30 years. I'm retired now and living in a small town but back in the 70's I built my own little cabin and enjoyed that for over 40 years till my weary bones couldn't do it anymore. Hunting, fishing, boating, cross country skiing and snowmobiling are some of my fondest memories with the guys and girls. Thanks for sharing the build.
I've watched a "bazillion " off grid cabin builds and you sir are a genius. Your 'logs ' are the best engineering idea I've ever seen. Looks amazing thanks for sharing this video of your hard work!
Thank you for your well-made and descriptive video. When I think about spending $300k on a house it makes me reconsider to buy a log cabin off the grid since instead. I don't like being around too many people and this cabin sounds so peaceful!
I have watched many log cabin builds, but this is the first I've seen with logs made of compressed boards. This is a great idea. The Lord Jesus has gifted you. Your cabin looks great. I really like it. I just mite build on like this myself. This is very inspiring.
A buddy of mine who is a carpenter did this very same thing last year and it has turned out to be the sturdiest log home he has be ever built. We now have several people wanting us to build them log homes like this for AIR B&B's. Awesome video and thank you for the your time.
Ever since i was 16, this is what I have wanted to do, but life happened, and now that my kids are grown, videos like this keep my dream alive! i better get to work.
I have 20 acres that I have been wanting to build a little cabin on. Of all the videos I have watched, yours is the best! I never thought of making my own logs out of 2x8 lumber. What a great idea! The extra-large tung and grove on those will most definitely prevent drafty walls. I wish you went into more detail on the rafters. Thanks for a great video!👍
What an absolute gem of a video. I cannot thank you enough for taking the time to document, edit, narrate and upload this. A lot of people have no grasp on the work involved just making a video let alone building a log cabin. Thank you my man.🙏🏻 Sub'd Liked Shared
I’m a sheet metal worker, I’ve had to age metal before for aesthetics, I used an angle grinder to create where my rust would go, and then sprayed it with peroxide. It rusts in 24 hours. Awesome build btw.
I have always wanted to live like that. So much so that me and my family have bought 47 acre's of raw land and have been living off grid for going on three years. I have watched alot of videos on cabin building and have to say I love the way you did yours. It's simple, functional and best of all works and looks beautiful. Well done.
I have seen several cabin build videos, I must say that this is quite different than ANYTHING I've seen before. Why I've never seen this method before is beyond me too. This method is simple and straight forward, seals, between members well, is about 6 inches thick and assembly is also simple and straight forward. Your floor plan is similar to one I found in an old book called Your Cabin in the Woods by a man named Conrad Meineke, in 1946. He showed several building methods. Conrad would be quite proud of you and your ingenuity. I still pull out that book from time to time and read it again. I first found and read this book in 1976. Great job. ;-)
I just a little senior citizen and I love watching these kinds of videos. You did a fantastic job and if you were my son, I would want you to build one for me!!
I've never built a dog house let alone a cabin, but this was amazing and inspiring what you have built by yourself. It makes me want to buy a piece of land and try it myself. Thanks for making this video and may you enjoy your cabin for many decades to come Aram
I hope years down the road someone by chance gets to stay here, then later on stumbles on this video , then gets to appreciate it even more. Awesome video !
This video series is a favorite of mine, and perhaps my favorite of all time when it comes to building off grid. For all of those reading this.... It is possible to build this style of building as a home, however... because codes vary across the country not all states will approve this unless you have certified engineer plans and a full set of approved blue prints available for most counties. Also, there will have to be modifications and allowances for the mechanical systems if they are to get your plans approved. The cost for model home using this method will climb to about $205 per sqft however, due to inflation, mechanical systems required, and multiple other costs to consider. Still I can see where this is an excellent value, especially if you have your own land and timber and can easily mill it down to save even more money. Thank you for making the videos, it was a pleasure to watch you work on this project.
Man, of the hundreds of cabin builds I've seen and all the books I've read, this is by far my favorite. Amazing job man, so very impressed. I will be building similar on my Alaska property based on your inspiration. Thank you!
Don't build this in Alaska! This construction does not have any insulation between boards. The heat not only escapes through the slots but when it meets the cold air it will condense inside the walls. This house will rot inside walls in a couple of heating seasons. Although I like the video!
Hats off to you dude,I worked on a building crew for 3 years. We built Beaver Mountain log homes. You did so much work by yourself and we had a crew and for some of the 30’ logs we had to have a crane. Hard work pays off.
My favorite build video. Very reasonable cost. Ingeniously beautiful.. If I was about 50 years younger I'd like to try building one myself. Love the antique look and textures.
I’ve watched this video multiple times, and never had enough intelligence to write down the material list. Amazing build, you sir are a true craftsman. Have a blessed day
I watch cabin building videos but this one by far is my favorite. I love every technique used and the old look . And the cement floors . Wish i had talent like that.
THIS is probably the BEST video on you tube to date, you left nothing out, GREAT JOB ! on it and the build it self. Your design will probably be the NEW norm, Would love to come up and see it on completion , it would be worth the drive from Chattanooga. keep up the good work and THANKS A LOT FOR HOURS OF GOOD ENTERTAINMENT !!!
I am glad I found this marvel. I look forward to watching the entire series for the details. You have fulfilled an old dream of mine. At 71, I shan't be fulfilling it for myself, but seeing the marvelous work (obviously after a great deal of thought and planning) and creativity that is displayed here is sufficient for my old bones to be content with knowing that it can and has been done.
I don't know where you live, friend, but if you care to try a cabin build and want a hand, I'm happy to help. It's never too late till we're pushing up daisies, right?
Do not know why I loved watching this so much other than I love cabins, like watching someone work when they know what they are doing and just how brave you were to burn the wood like that! I am so impressed. This cost less than my having a shed built and turning into my home. No money here so it took 6 years and I still have things I need or want to do. Thanks for sharing this.
This is one well built cabin , simply genius construction using the 3- 2x8's to make a log. This cabin will be here for a long long time and you'll get many years of enjoyment from it. Great job !
So this was by far the best cabin build iv seen. Love the solo vibe and the background music. Ps... ur voice is humble. I have some nice country land hear in trinidad and Tobago, il build a proper cabin. Thanks for uploading
I just finished watching your cabin build. You did a great job narrating your build. I'm going to build one soon. I just might steal your log design. It's genius. I built my personal residence about 20 years ago. It's a sfh in a rural area. Kids are getting older now and have always wanted a one or two bedroom, simplistic cabin. Thx for sharing your ideas. Take care and God bless.
I remember watching the stone wall being built. Def inspired me for the wall behind my stove. Still insulating and doing electrical on my 10 x 12 shed. Love your work.
I agree with Midwest Mutineer using 2x8's as a giant tongue and groove is absolutely fantastic. Never seen a cabin build done this way before and I have watched many. Thanks for posting.
Simple yet such a classic build , well done sir. I got a "My Self Reliance" vibe from your production and that's what kept me entertained to be honest ;-)
This has got to be the best cabin built video I've seen yet (and I've watched a ton of them). The idea itself was brilliant, but your presentation and a great narrating voice just sends it over the top. It feels like you go the extra mile to make sure that anyone who wants to try it for themselves has pretty much all the visual aid they would need. Quick question- you mentioned you bought the 2x8's before the price fleecing happened- how did you store them to keep from warping and twisting? All I have within an hour from me is Lowes, and I swear their stuff will twist up on the ride home!
Thanks for the comment. Really appreciate it. The boards were delivered in stacks and tied together nice and neat. I just left them out in the elements so they would weather a bit.
This has given me inspiration to start planning building a cabin on my land. This design is genius and I’ll be looking into getting something like this built. Great work man!
I love this take on building a cabin. I have watched a lot of videos on building Tiny Houses on wheels and building cabins. This is the first one I have seen built this way. Great videos! Looking forward to your additional building.
This is awesome! Thank you for sharing your journey on this venture. The one thing I would’ve done after putting down the subfloor, was building up a higher rim around the exterior in which the grooves lay in. That way I could build up the subfloor with bubble foil insulation on the floor and provide additional insulation. Strips on that and then flooring nailed to the strips, would allow for a warmer floor. We always see things after the fact, don’t we? You should draw plans and market them. This is a realistic enterprise for anyone to work at and make reality. I’d love to build this for my family.
I always admire people who can build things. I have skills in other areas and my brothers are carpenters, but so much respect to them and others that are a vanishing breed.
I really liked your idea of using dimensional lumber to create your logs. Scorching the wood was also a good look. This, to me, was a pretty smart one-man build.
In regards to that…is this in the USA? Any special permits you needed to build in that fashion and size? Or is it your land and just doing what you want on it? Thanks for sharing, as well!
@@benkordus886 That's always an important question if you're interested in staying legal. Fortunately I live in Indiana, which has the log cabin rule. If you build it yourself, for yourself, you don't need a building permit (meaning no code restrictions).
When a youtuber won't share the costs of the projects which they are promoting themselves with I always feel that they are hiding something. When you are making money from subscribers, supporters, viewers you owe it to them to be upfront and honest so that people can judge for themselves if it is doable for them. Even though prices have gone up, vary state to state to country, the ballpark is a good way to respect your viewers because you laid out your costs.
I have watched this build with interest from the beginning and you are unique in your 2x8 approach. The proof is in the pudding and the cost breakdown was a fascinating dose of reality. In Canada, we have nothing but trees and water and empty land. You can't buy land and a 2x4 costs eight bucks. You did well.
Wow. Did not realize the difference in pricing. I think most of the lumber we get is from Canada. A 2x8x8 did get up to $15 last year but now back down to half that. Thanks for watching!
A beautiful and strong cabin. Thank you for sharing the process and your step by step narration. Inspired me to go back to my West Virginia property to build a similar cabin after my previous cabin was burnt down.
I love the way this cabin is built. No big logs to work on. Specially for Texas where I live the temperatures are not extreme.I would think for Florida would be great I am a retired aerospace engineer so I can design it off hand in CAD system and work all issues before hand by building assemblies before hand using the modeling. Would be like installing leggo. I would make it larger include all room I need. Use simpson brackets everywhere to facilitate building by one person. Hmm maybe I can design it and sell the plans Step by step. 2x8 pine or cedar Brilliant !
I never comment on videos, but I was blown away by your cabin! So freakin awesome!!! I can't wait to find the perfect location to replicate what you built. Looking forward to the videos on the addition.
Thanks for sharing such a beautiful project. I admire your genius at keeping it simple using basic tools and the finished product that looks like it's been there for a century. At my age I think I have one more project like this in me and hope to tackle it soon and have many more years to enjoy it as a get away and leave it as a legacy for my daughter. Thanks and be blessed.
Thanks for this video. I’m so impressed with your work. The method using 2 x 8’ is just ingenious. I’m anxious to watch the construction of the additions.
I fell in love when I seen you pour in the chemicals on the tin for the roof❤ rust is my favorite color... You did an amazing beautiful job and I can tell you that you was enjoying what you was doing that's certainly makes all the difference❤
Damn. That’s an amazing cabin man. Great job. If I ever get to own my own property I’m building with this style. I have my own construction company, and no employees, so I know all about working solo, and could easily achieve something with this design on my own. Pat yourself on the back for me.
Sheer freaking brilliance. Thank you so much for this video. I'm going to copy this build. Absolutely my favorite cabin build this far. Man. Just awesome.
Absolutely love this! I think I'll use the same tactics to build me a small hunting shack. One suggestion you may add on later, a water collection system from that roof!
What an awesome build and a great way to do it. I've never seen a cabin built like this... Very well thought out. Please consider two 45 deg. cross braces, attached near the peak, on the outside of your chimney. The cabin and country look beautiful. You should be proud of this.
Best video I’ve ever seen in a long while. I have adhd and can’t focus on anything for longer than a couple minutes but I was able to watch this video in one go!
No TAX??? You lucky people! (Canadian here) That's a great total $ total! I love that you include your drawings. Videos like this are giving me hope that although I'm 50 now, I can still achieve my first dream. I got close a couple times, but changed tack to buying older houses and renovating. I still have the build dream though, and can do it, despite being a mere feeble female (I might need a man's hand here and there). Those 3 piece 2x8's look HEAVY!! I was even trying to help you in a few shots...
thank you for sharing financial info - so many similar cabin builds out there are the viewer is just left to wonder how much it cost. i really like your method with the staggered 2x8s. i hope to do something similar once i find some land to build on
You are a machine ! It,s not sufficient to say “ job well done “. That was extraordinary, never saw that type of construction before, simply amazingTo do all that by yourself-pure genius. Enjoy for many, many years.

Hey Guys I'm a New Zealand trade Cert Carpenter and there is a building system here called Lockwood homes that is very similar to what he is doing
This cabin’s choice of building material is genius. The look and low cost is amazing. Great job !
Thanks so much!
I'm 8 mins in...what was the cost...couldn't have been cheap...those boards have to be 35 bucks a piece?!? Great build Brother...about to start milling my 4x8s any day now!!!
Not only is your cabin a masterpiece build but your filming and editing of this video is excellent. The choice of music is the icing on the cake.
Glad you enjoyed it!
You have made many envious I am sure. I never thought of using 2x8 lumber like that for a log. Very original and ingenious. Your cabin is very inspiring. Thank you for sharing your cabin build.
Thanks for the comment. Much appreciated 👍
It is a fun project and as you know a TON of work.
Thanks for watching and take care!!
I've watched a "bazillion " off grid cabin builds and you sir are a genius. Your 'logs ' are the best engineering idea I've ever seen. Looks amazing thanks for sharing this video of your hard work!
Thanks 👍 Really appreciate it.
This is one of the nicest cabin builds I've seen on UA-cam
Thank you! Much appreciated 👍
Thank you for your well-made and descriptive video. When I think about spending $300k on a house it makes me reconsider to buy a log cabin off the grid since instead. I don't like being around too many people and this cabin sounds so peaceful!
Thanks for the comment 👍 I enjoy the peace and quiet of the woods.
I have watched many log cabin builds, but this is the first I've seen with logs made of compressed boards. This is a great idea. The Lord Jesus has gifted you. Your cabin looks great. I really like it. I just mite build on like this myself. This is very inspiring.
Thanks for watching! Take care.
A buddy of mine who is a carpenter did this very same thing last year and it has turned out to be the sturdiest log home he has be ever built. We now have several people wanting us to build them log homes like this for AIR B&B's. Awesome video and thank you for the your time.
Great idea!
Ever since i was 16, this is what I have wanted to do, but life happened, and now that my kids are grown, videos like this keep my dream alive! i better get to work.
I started at 48 so it's never too late 👍
I have 20 acres that I have been wanting to build a little cabin on. Of all the videos I have watched, yours is the best! I never thought of making my own logs out of 2x8 lumber. What a great idea! The extra-large tung and grove on those will most definitely prevent drafty walls. I wish you went into more detail on the rafters. Thanks for a great video!👍
Thanks. You can watch a couple of the older videos on rafters that may be helpful. They are on my channel page.
What an absolute gem of a video. I cannot thank you enough for taking the time to document, edit, narrate and upload this. A lot of people have no grasp on the work involved just making a video let alone building a log cabin. Thank you my man.🙏🏻

I’m a sheet metal worker, I’ve had to age metal before for aesthetics, I used an angle grinder to create where my rust would go, and then sprayed it with peroxide. It rusts in 24 hours. Awesome build btw.
Thanks. I hope what I did doesn't rust thru too fast. I hope to get 15-20 years out of it.
Loved watching. Wish I was younger, I 'v helped my husband build a log house and a yurt, but our building days are behind us!!
I have always wanted to live like that. So much so that me and my family have bought 47 acre's of raw land and have been living off grid for going on three years. I have watched alot of videos on cabin building and have to say I love the way you did yours. It's simple, functional and best of all works and looks beautiful. Well done.
That's awesome. I'd love to try that one day.
Thanks for watching 👍
Wow, congrats. I hope to soon.
Great job. ;-)
Thanks for the comment. I'll have to see if I can get my hands on that book and check it out. I love reading about topics like that.
Take care!
Love this cabin build, It looks like a antique cabin but is brand new, and the location can't be beaten!
Thank you!
I just a little senior citizen and I love watching these kinds of videos. You did a fantastic job and if you were my son, I would want you to build one for me!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
My man...This is one of the most impressive things that I have ever watched. You are incredibly talented! Love the great reset commentary lol
Thanks. Much appreciated 👍
I've never built a dog house let alone a cabin, but this was amazing and inspiring what you have built by yourself. It makes me want to buy a piece of land and try it myself. Thanks for making this video and may you enjoy your cabin for many decades to come
Aram
Awesome! Thank you!
Don't forget the dog!
How can you not be amazed and fascinated by this incredible cabin. A masterpiece.
Thanks for the comment! Really appreciate it!!
I hope years down the road someone by chance gets to stay here, then later on stumbles on this video , then gets to appreciate it even more. Awesome video !
That would be cool 👍
Oh my goodness, a stone wall inside, yes! Every bit of this build I can connect with, it just makes sense to me.
Thanks for watching 👍
Thanks for the comment. This method has worked out better than I expected and is rock solid.
Man, of the hundreds of cabin builds I've seen and all the books I've read, this is by far my favorite. Amazing job man, so very impressed. I will be building similar on my Alaska property based on your inspiration. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it! It's a solid way of building.
Don't build this in Alaska! This construction does not have any insulation between boards. The heat not only escapes through the slots but when it meets the cold air it will condense inside the walls. This house will rot inside walls in a couple of heating seasons. Although I like the video!
@@alexeipermiakov2566 thanks for your opinion.
Hats off to you dude,I worked on a building crew for 3 years. We built
Beaver Mountain log homes. You did so much work by yourself and we had a crew and for some of the 30’ logs we had to have a crane. Hard work pays off.
Thanks for the comment. Much appreciated!
Very educational! Thank you so much! You are the only one on youtube ( so far) that explain all the process, cost and how to build a cabin!
Glad you found it educational. That was my intent.
Take care!
My favorite build video.
Very reasonable cost.
Ingeniously beautiful..
If I was about 50 years younger I'd like to try building one myself.
Love the antique look and textures.
Thank you very much!
I want to start life all over again after watching this video. "Sigh......"
Really like the entire build, really like the 2X8 log design! Made my mind up on how I’m approaching my build. Great job!
I’ve watched this video multiple times, and never had enough intelligence to write down the material list. Amazing build, you sir are a true craftsman. Have a blessed day
Thanks! Much appreciated 👍
@@TheOffGridExperience do you have a build cost like at for the additions as well??
I watch cabin building videos but this one by far is my favorite. I love every technique used and the old look . And the cement floors . Wish i had talent like that.
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it 👍
I never get tired of watching it all over again... an awesome build. Thank you.
Thanks again for watching!
Thanks Terry. I really appreciate that. I'd be happy to show you it when it is all completed. Keep in touch.
Take care!
One of the best looking cabins I have ever seen, a great effort, well done.
Thanks 👍
I am glad I found this marvel. I look forward to watching the entire series for the details. You have fulfilled an old dream of mine. At 71, I shan't be fulfilling it for myself, but seeing the marvelous work (obviously after a great deal of thought and planning) and creativity that is displayed here is sufficient for my old bones to be content with knowing that it can and has been done.
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the thoughtful comments. They are much appreciated 👍 Take care!
Thanks for the comment and watching!! Take care!
This is one well built cabin , simply genius construction using the 3- 2x8's to make a log. This cabin will be here for a long long time and you'll get many years of enjoyment from it. Great job !
Thanks for the comment! I sure hope .
Take care!
So this was by far the best cabin build iv seen. Love the solo vibe and the background music. Ps... ur voice is humble. I have some nice country land hear in trinidad and Tobago, il build a proper cabin. Thanks for uploading
Thanks for watching 👍 Much appreciated!
@@TheOffGridExperience im looking for the follow up video of the additional bed room and bathroom
What a great idea! I must have watched a thousand cabin builds and I’ve never seen this approach before. Great stuff
You built your cabin modular style. Everything fits perfectly. 👍
Thanks. It is modular. That's a good way of phrasing it.
Take care!
I built a one room off- grid cabin years ago. It was this fancy! Lot's a work especially, alone or with little help.
Thanks for watching 👍 Take care!
I remember watching the stone wall being built. Def inspired me for the wall behind my stove. Still insulating and doing electrical on my 10 x 12 shed. Love your work.
Thanks for the comment. Glad it inspired you 👍
Just can’t think of the right words but what a masterpiece, what incredible ideas, thoughts and workmanship. Thanks for sharing!
Wow, thank you!
I agree with Midwest Mutineer using 2x8's as a giant tongue and groove is absolutely fantastic. Never seen a cabin build done this way before and I have watched many. Thanks for posting.
Thanks for watching. Much appreciated 👍
Simple yet such a classic build , well done sir. I got a "My Self Reliance" vibe from your production and that's what kept me entertained to be honest ;-)
Thanks for the compliment. I'm a fan of his work 👍
This has got to be the best cabin built video I've seen yet (and I've watched a ton of them).
Thanks for the video. I've seen a lot of cabin builds and if I was younger I would build mine like yours. Genius. Looking forward to your additions.
Thanks for the comment. It has really worked out well so far. Didn't know what to expect when I started it.
Wow just WOW, what a talented man, looks like there ain't nuthin he can't do, the cabin is soo beautiful and cozy, great job!
Glad you enjoyed it
This has given me inspiration to start planning building a cabin on my land. This design is genius and I’ll be looking into getting something like this built. Great work man!
Thanks for watching 👍
I love this take on building a cabin. I have watched a lot of videos on building Tiny Houses on wheels and building cabins. This is the first one I have seen built this way. Great videos! Looking forward to your additional building.
Glad you enjoyed it. Take care.
I definitely need to add insulation under the cabin for the floor. Your idea is one way if doing it if.
Thanks for watching.
The bubble foil insulation applied underneath - not inside - also keeps rodents away
I always admire people who can build things. I have skills in other areas and my brothers are carpenters,
but so much respect to them and others that are a vanishing breed.
Thanks for the comment. I'm just learning as I go and enjoying the process.
I really liked your idea of using dimensional lumber to create your logs. Scorching the wood was also a good look. This, to me, was a pretty smart one-man build.
Thanks for the comment!
This youtuber definitely shares the cost of this project.
It's not unique, they use this method for tornado rated shelters!
Jim is just great guy, true to himself, can't ask for a better friend. Thanks take care
Well done. Your method for logs using 2×8's is a great idea! I am planning to build a small cabin on my property. This video is an inspiration.
Glad it was inspiring. Take care!
A beautiful and strong cabin. Thank you for sharing the process and your step by step narration. Inspired me to go back to my West Virginia property to build a similar cabin after my previous cabin was burnt down.
Thanks for watching 👍
Over all I think your idea is brilliant. As a wood worker I would highly recommend getting an impact driver. Much faster and easier on the wrists.
Thanks for the comment! I have a driver and agree.
As a woodworker, I would highly recommend using untreated 2 x 8s on the interior of the cabin, the chemicals used to treat the lumber are toxic.
I love the way this cabin is built. No big logs to work on. Specially for Texas where I live the temperatures are not extreme.I would think for Florida would be great
I am a retired aerospace engineer so I can design it off hand in CAD system and work all issues before hand by building assemblies before hand using the modeling.
Would be like installing leggo.
I would make it larger include all room I need.
Use simpson brackets everywhere to facilitate building by one person.
Hmm maybe I can design it and sell the plans
Step by step.
2x8 pine or cedar
Brilliant !
Thank you very much!
Thanks for this video. I’m so impressed with your work. The method using 2 x 8’ is just ingenious. I’m anxious to watch the construction of the additions.
Thanks for watching. First Additions video should be out next week.
I fell in love when I seen you pour in the chemicals on the tin for the roof❤ rust is my favorite color... You did an amazing beautiful job and I can tell you that you was enjoying what you was doing that's certainly makes all the difference❤
Thanks for the comment👍 It was a lot of hard work but fun at the same time.
BRILLIANT .. was expecting the cost to be much higher .. looks great!
Thanks 👍
Great job, very ingenious way to construct it . The use of stone was a really nice touch too!
Thank you! Cheers!
Damn. That’s an amazing cabin man. Great job. If I ever get to own my own property I’m building with this style. I have my own construction company, and no employees, so I know all about working solo, and could easily achieve something with this design on my own. Pat yourself on the back for me.
Thanks for watching 👍
Sheer freaking brilliance. Thank you so much for this video. I'm going to copy this build. Absolutely my favorite cabin build this far. Man. Just awesome.
Absolutely love this! I think I'll use the same tactics to build me a small hunting shack. One suggestion you may add on later, a water collection system from that roof!
Thanks. Rainwater collection is on my to do list.
What an awesome build and a great way to do it. I've never seen a cabin built like this... Very well thought out. Please consider two 45 deg. cross braces, attached near the peak, on the outside of your chimney. The cabin and country look beautiful. You should be proud of this.
Thanks for the comment 👍
Absolutely amazing and beautiful! Really liked the cost breakdown and total.
Thanks for the comment!
Best video I’ve ever seen in a long while. I have adhd and can’t focus on anything for longer than a couple minutes but I was able to watch this video in one go!
I absolutely love it you have inspired me to build my own log home your video was very educational and informative
Glad it was helpful. Take care.
Really good job and the 2x8 tongue and groove idea is unique. Can’t wait to see more. Thanks!
Thanks for watching!!
I was even trying to help you in a few shots...
thank you for sharing financial info - so many similar cabin builds out there are the viewer is just left to wonder how much it cost. i really like your method with the staggered 2x8s. i hope to do something similar once i find some land to build on
Glad it was useful. Take care!
This is probably the best cabin build I've watched to date👍 Awesome planning awesome execution
Thanks. Much appreciated 👍
Beautiful build. Can't wait to see the additions. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
You are a machine ! It,s not sufficient to say “ job well done “. That was extraordinary, never saw that type of construction before, simply amazingTo do all that by yourself-pure genius. Enjoy for many, many years.
