      I had been wondering about doing this and was hoping someone commented about it as I haven't seen anything. Doesn't the concrete need to cure for a while? I know after 72 hours it should be ready to use, but doesn't it continue to cure for a month or so -at this volume? Looks like a gallon of liquid rubber should be. more than enough. How many coats did you use, 4-5?

      @@concretegainz368 great video, i independently arrived at most of the same techniques as you. fyi a few tips:
      1) since youre doing this on large scale, you may want to look into pond / immersion curing for your plates. keep your plates soaked in water for a few days, it should increase strength significantly. you can use a kiddie pool or a large basin to submerge the concrete in water for some days.
      2) you can replace the steel reinforcement with chicken wire. make sure it has at least 1" holes, so that aggregate is allowed to pass freely through the holes.
      3) if you want to be fancy, you can use metal pipe instead of pvc. the sound of the metal pipe as the weight is loaded onto a barbell sounds exactly like a real plate.

    • @alexrich9202
      @alexrich9202 4 роки тому +2

      Hey Mark, yes you can coat them in various paints and protective sealers. I’ve done some like that and others just plain concrete. I’ve found that if using them outside it’s actually better to not coat at all. The sealer attracts more dirt and grass and the concrete doesn’t really chip unless you hit the edge really hard on something.

      @Lteo Hrnt So your point is, further reinforcement won't make then last longer? And since when are experts not allowed to watch videos? Even "experts" can always learn more.

    I made these exactly 15 years ago and I had a few problems.They were rough on my hands and always left white dust,they cracked,and they never weighed the same.Never.The differences were not that big but I I had multiple plates on each side I would end up with 3 kilo difference on one side.After some time I decided to go with CNC plasma cut plates.I cut them from 25 mm steel plate and by changing the diameter I of the plate I got the weights I needed.And it cost me pretty cheap,it was something like a dollar per kilo.And I ended up with perfect steel plates that don't crack or leave any residue dust like concrete ones did

    Especially when Amazon jacks up the price of a 45 lb plate I got from Walmart for 39.00 to 109.00 to scam the buyers. Good recycle tip I use for weighted vest is I load 20 oz gatorade bottles with water and load them up in ammo pouches and My plate carrier gets about 40-50 lbs.

      They are actually more resilient than you think. I've been using them for months with no problems at all. Just lift on a dense foam mat or outside ground.

      @Milan D I actually think what he’s doing is a great idea and a good way to make weights affordable. Also if you are making a home gym you most likely aren’t doing max deadlifts and squats but rather full workouts. No reason to try and max

    • @woodoyoy
      @woodoyoy 4 роки тому +11

      @Milan D well I'm watching this cause I've made my own gym with concrete plates. No problems, I deadlift in 250 to 300 ponds area, though my plates are a bit thicker, I made them that way so they are tougher I don't care about measurements that much. Of course you better not throw them like some people do with metal plates, but it's so much cheaper

      I you lift on a some kind of mat you should be fine. The wire structure inside should prevent them from splitting so the worst thing that could happen is that you get about 8 pounds inbalance on your way up.

      I made mine by taking for e.g 45 lbs of sand and just dumping it in a large bucket/(anything you have pretty big that u dont need actually...) then then marked where #how much the sand filled the container and simply cut around and used the thing as a mold..#use only sand at first dont mixed concrete or whatever as its just for measurement.
      I apologize in advance for my grammar/English. Hopes u get what i was trying to say.
