To further improve the strength of the plates, you could spray them with truck bed liner to give them a rubber coating. You could also put some square pieces of chicken wire sandwiched between the concrete to add some rebar support. Great video!
I’ve probably watched 20+ UA-cam videos on how to make concrete weights before I got to yours and I think I like yours the best. Your presentation was thorough, clear and concise. Not to mention your weights look the best I’ve seen so far, especially with the beveled edge. Great job!
Big fan of how you've included all the little 'special tips' for making the job easier (e.g., using a sawzall to remove air bubbles, mounting plate on a pipe to let the grinder do the work). Brilliant, and well-done!
Really enjoyed this bro. I think I'm going to use your method as opposed to some of the other tutorials I've seen as it's the most beginner-friendly. Thanks!
Came for the concrete weights tutorial . Subscribed because this is one of the most straightforward and thorough tutorials on UA-cam . Can’t wait to see the rest.
Thank you so much for this information; very loquacious, and even comes with a little instructional booklet. outstanding truth. hug and the best for you boy. ( I'm Argentinean).
Try to keep your concrete plates underwater for bout a week. This will make it harder and stronger. Don't ever let it get too dry. The first 24 hours keep spraying it with water. And then when you pull it out the mold put it underwater for like 5 days. Then let it dry out finally. If you dont keep it wet and just let it dry out in like 24 hours your concrete is only gonna be like 25% its true potential in hardness.
Hi great video ! Can I ask you a few questions ? What is the final density of your concrete ? I mean how do you know what size to make your molds so you can get the weight you want ? Also how do you make sure the weights are all the same weight so they are balanced on the barbell ? Thanks a million.
Thank you and I hope I can figure this out because I've never poured concrete before LoL but I guess I got to learn some time in my life since I own my own home and it will make repairs cheaper
I definitely appreciate the video but you might try making sure that the surface that you set these on are level in the future man. It definitely looks like some of those weights are thicker on one side than the other.
On the mold... Just buy a cooler tub. They cost about $8... Have 17inch base, are perfectly round, are plastic so concrete wont stick. They are water tight so you can use a wetter mix... And bonus you can pond cure the plates in them for say 3 days after they set so your concrete gets to full strength.
What's a cooler tub and pond curing? Do you mean by submersing the plates in water? Or do you mean by just putting some water on top of the concrete before it gets removed from the cooler tub?
Great video bro. I'm making also concrete weights. Question: after you demold it, do you use a method for curing? Or just let the natural process. Also how would you paint on the surface?
Just leave it out, uncovered of course, to cure. I’ve been told it takes 20+ days for concrete to cure to its maximum strength. That’s not to say you can’t use them after a few days, I just wouldn’t be too rough. I’ve also seen a video of a guy painting his weights with epoxy and they legit looked like they were manufactured.
Instead of surface grinding so the plate is easier to hold you can from the start create a circular funnel around the inside edge of the plate while the cement is still wet and malleable.
@@shadowarcherz I still think you should surface grind or sand the weights down to make them less rough and course. That won't be good for a person's carpet. However adding the lip will also make the plate easier to hold.
@@shadowarcherz Fantastic. Will check them out. Hey bro mind 8f I fet your email address? I'd like to email you whenever I need guidance regarding something I'm stuck on when creating my equipment.

Hi, this is very interesting and well explained! However I can't find aluminum flashing where I live (third world island), and it's going to be hard to find any kind of metal sheet that thin. Is there anything else you could recommend? And what about iron mesh to strengthen the concrete?
@@shadowarcherz Hi Keven! I live in Spain. I couldn't get the alluminium flashing but I got a metal sheet. It was hard to cut straight but it's done. The mold is ready to be used. Many thanks for your guidance
Bro, thank you for your valuable content. Just ordered your e-book. It's great! BTW what are your thoughts on coloring concrete? Is it worth it? I've been making concrete plates for 2months now. Never got good results coloring them.. I've used different types of color , putting primer before I color. Never got good results so far. They look ugly.. Is it even worth it to color them? Have you thought about different types of molds? Like sylicone of liquid rubber or something like that? In my opinion they could be more convenient. Do you have something to recommend?
for conrete, the BEST is a coloring agent that you mix into of the concrete. the next best is going to sherwin williams and asking for concrete floor paint. that paint has a primer then the color and it STAYS. (Former painter)

Weigh the concrete mix, all the water will dry out eventually anyways
Also roughly add a just a little below a pound of mix cause you’ll be grinding it down
Anyone figure out how to make larger plates
Has anyone actually tried this if so how did they hold up?
What's the fiber to concrete ratio?

I looked at one of the stix/stones videos and in their packaging they mention .5oz. So I'm assuming that's ~0.5oz/45lbs.
