Robin Pecknold on the song "A friend of mine had been telling me about her experience helping a family member with addiction. As she was describing that, I was imagining this sailing lesson I had taken where we were learning how to rescue someone who had fallen overboard and you have to circle the boat around the right way and throw the ropes from the right place. Time is just something that’s happening around us, but there’s some kind of core idea that you’re not what’s happening to you. Like wind on a flag.”
It’s Robins gift. Earth elements are such a great subject matter to use as a metaphor and he’s just on a whole different level. He evokes bottled up emotions and surfaces them with beauty.
One of the most vulnerable and intimate songs I’ve ever heard. It makes me feel like I can get through the things I’m going through. “I’m not the season I’m in.”
I’m meeting my son for the very first time tomorrow. This little tune twisted me into a bundle of joyous delirium on the occasion. I can’t thank you guys enough.
Stick it out man. There will be many tough times ahead indeed. But also great times too. And thankfully, throughout the entire ride, we have music by our side. ❤
Unfortunately there is no "they". The band has quite evidently broken up and Robin has decided to release this solo work under the band name to get out of a Fleet Foxes contract. It's extremely sad I think, none of the other guys are on it. A transitional album to get fans used to a Robin Pecknold solo career. It wasn't the end to Fleet Foxes I anticipated or expect to ever enjoy.
@@peteb1206 According to a rolling stone interview, Robin said the other members are mostly present on touring, so I guess they didn't exactly break up, that's just the way it is, shown clearer by covid's lens
It's raining now and I'm hearing it as I look out the window at how beautiful things look when they are touched by rain. Fleet Foxes is just my perfect company for moments like that.
I never understand why the best artists don't get mainstream recognition & the world ends up obsessing over people like Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, Adele
I can’t ever find the words to express how Robin’s music has profoundly changed me & helped me through some dark times. I just *feel* when I hear Robin sing, all the way from White Winter Hymnal to here, now, this song. This album. Thank you.
Makes me cry every time I listen. Thank you for capturing the beautiful, sometimes difficult, but always rewarding melancholy I feel in this season of my life.
It's as if someone is speaking for the first time, it's so genuine. The uke tones that promise paradise, the low strumm soft acceptance of the now and me, channeled floating voice, the bit of neck, exposed. unproduction 🙏
Robin please don't die before i watch your live performance, please come to Turkey, or anywhere else but i wish from the deepest of my heart to see you live and to accompany you while you are singing your amazing songs.
One brother. That is all. Robin solo, with other guys he picked up along the way. I guess you haven't read the album credits or can't hear the complete absence of Fleet Foxes harmonies on the record. It's not a Fleet Foxes work.
@Pete B Hi Pete, yes, I know this is not a Fleet Foxes work, but I also noticed (by reading the description of the video, have you?) that this especific mv is directed by Sean Pecknold. That's what I meant. But maybe I should change it to 'Pecknold siblings and crew', seeing as Aja produced it.
Thanks for one of the best things that came out in 2020. Shore was the light we all needed to get things together and keep fighting for a better future.
Blood of my blood Skin of my skin You're in roundelay water again I want to face the condition you're in The old wrenches hardly turn me Can you catch a thrown line Tied around neat Circle once about, please allow me I see the pall coming off of our cheeks We're weak but a leaf is turning And I move lightly in the dawn Try to, lightly ever on the lee Though I liked summer light on you If we ride a winter-long wind Well time's not what I belong to And I'm not the season I'm in Holding on close Holding on to Any kind of ring I can bring you And at the beachwood pyre good news It's wet but it's catching easy And I move slightly in the dawn Try to, gently ever on the lee Though I liked summer light on you If we ride a winter-long wind Well time's not what I belong to And you're not the season you're in
Correction. "Guy". One guy, Robin. "Fleet Fox" is how it should have been credited, but that wouldn't have satisfied the record company. How sad that Robin either thinks he is Fleet Foxes, wanted to get out of the FF contract, or allowed the record company to talk him into calling it Fleet Foxes to general more sales (cos only the diehard fans know who Robin Pecknold is). It's tragic actually.

It's nice to have at least one good memory from 2020. This evening was a healing balm on a wound of a year.
I second that

I’m so lucky. My person and personality is evolving at the same time as the fleet foxes. Such a brilliant and blessed sound they make.

Robin is an exceptionally talented emissary of spirit.
Straight from God to song...
My grandma died today, this feels like the perfect song and version to remember her by, especially with that filming location

such a powerful song. the lyrics have a wisdom that transcends time and the guitar accentuates Robin's voice and persona.

"Shore" is a masterpiece of an album, and its content transcends mere resonation.
Every comfort is between the syllables. Warmth, wind, painful memories, life, death, hiding beneath the leaves as the wind catches them.
Organic & beautifully executed.
