-- YOGA WHEEL PSOAS STRETCH | How To Stretch Your Psoas Muscle --
Wondering how to stretch your psoas?
Your psoas muscle is a deep hip flexor that can be hard to stretch, but you might want to know how to do a psoas muscle release if you have lower back pain or hip pain.
Most psoas stretching exercises focus on the lower attachment of the psoas muscle where it crosses your pelvis and connects to your femur bone. In this video, I'll show you how to release your psoas at the upper attachment.
This upper psoas stretch using a yoga wheel helps with breathing, relieves middle back pain and can also fix bad posture (hunched shoulders or rounded spine).

I'd never seen a Yoga Wheel before and I can see from this demonstration how those tiny mobilizations, extensions and twists must have such a powerful effect!
I love you! you're the best. I love how your exercises are things ppl can do if they're "out of shape" or experience a lot of pain already (prolly cuz they hurt themselves doing all the heavy cardio, jumping about, extra forced exercises) I'm starting to see how the focused micro movements are >>>>>>.
Sukie, I’m new to your channel and I am really enjoying it. Can I encourage you to spend some time responding to comments? It would really bless a lot of people. ❤️
Thank you so much! I am a qualified yoga teacher. I practice daily but this reaches parts no yoga practice, I have experienced so far, has reached! Just what I needed.

Sukie what is the secret to keep the wheel from rolling out from behind you? You make it look so easy. I am using a yoga mat too. Thank you in advance for your response.
Your too great Sukie
hello sukie
thank you for the information
one question....is it necessary to have the 3 different sizes of yoga wheels?
about how long does it usually take before we start to see or feel a difference in our pain and tension if we do this every day? Just so I have a frame of reference and realistic expectations.
Wonderful 💕
Thank you.
Nice stretch...
Hi Suki - how do we know which size wheel to use?
Is there a Psoas Stretch for people with budging disc you can recommend? Thank you
Subscriber for you!! ❤️
can you think of a substitute for the yoga wheel please?
Very very nice
There is no question that these movements work for me! Thank you!
Question: what size is the yoga wheel that you are using? 12 inches? It keeps slipping out from under me. What am I doing wrong?
And I thought they used long confusing words at NASA, Haaaaa deep belly laugh...
Great Vid!
What can you use instead of yoga wheel for support?
Plz make video on knee pain joint problem plz
Hi Sukie. I just found your videos and love them! I’m also interested to know your opinion of the yoga wheel with versus without a spinal groove..? Thanks!
She usually takes a few years to respond. Hang in there!
Is there a substitute for the yoga wheel?
I have just discovered this. Now on the hunt for a yoga wheel. Which make, size, thickness would you recommend, please? Thank you!
What other props besides a yoga wheel would work?
Hi Sukie - I signed up for your Pain Free at Any Age series a few days ago, but I have lost the link to get back to it to continue to watch. Can you tell me how to find my way back. I would also like to ask a few questions, probably not appropriate here, and ask if you can send me a contact link please. Many thanks - and keep up the good work!
What size yoga wheel are you using?
HI Sukie I am so grateful to have found your videos. I have had psoas issues for years. A lot of pain especially on left side(feminine side). I watched the video which I am going to get a wheel and try. My concern or question is that my chronic pain discomfort in my psoas is from my bikini line down to where the psoas attaches at the top of the leg bone. I will try the exercises first following your video and see what might shift. I am sure most of the tension and tightness is from childhood trauma and ptsd. thanks so much for all you are doing!
Your tight psoas has absolutely nothing to do with any psychological trauma, it's a completely mistaken concept. It also has zero to do with the adrenal glands.
@@scarred10 … so why didn’t you tell her what it does have to do with and what you suggest to her?
@u-dont-exist dotcom explain what, that there is zero evidence any specific muscle is associated woth psychological trauma. Its psueudoscience from unqualified people.
Could you tell me where your located and if you are accepting new patients
Can I use a ball for this?
I'm a newbie at yoga stretches,mats,wheels,etc....so I love this video but I found that when I use a t-shirt it hikes up my back and have to resort to taking my shirt off, is there a special shirt too?
Can I use my pilates arc to do this? I don’t have a yoga wheel
Question here - when I stretch my left side- even subtly- I start to feel a pinching feeling in my right inguinal region. I try relaxing my right side but it is a challenge to maintain that left side stretch. I can’t identify the pinch specifically but any other ideas here to help resolve this issue? (I know it’s my brain 😊) thx
Spot on!!
I have had trouble breathing for a long time, it feels like inability to take deep breath. you said shallow breathing, fear, stress anxiety. exactly me. can i use a bucket?
My back also resembles lumbar lordosis is if that means anything. My lower back looks so tight and inward
Hmm, I don’t think a bucket would work well because your shoulder blades would press against it.
I have the Pilates baby arch, would that work? Or it’s not high enough? :)
What size is the yoga wheel?
I ended up going to a chiropractor lady and said that my spine was crooked and not right. She corrected it and it’s straight now. I feel calmer now. I feel lighter
Is a 12 x 6” size ok?
Which is better a yoga wheel or the chirp wheel that has a little valley in the middle for the spine?
I have both and find the Chirp with the little valley works best for me
Are you using a the 12” yoga wheel in this wonderful video?
I definitely need one and just hope to find out which you recommend for psoas work.
Yep! That’s the one.
@@SukieBaxter thanks so much! Mine arrived today. Starting work on my psoas at this moment!! ❤️
@@SukieBaxter, Are there any alternatives to yoga wheels? A box with pillows on top? Money is a concern.
I am so excited to do this movement but found that it makes my neck, right at the base of my skull, hurt, so can I expect this to go away?
Very interesting! Thank you. If we don't have a yoga wheel and cannot buy one for now, what else can we use please?
You can use any rounded drum...
I used the rounded are of my sofa. Seems to do the trick.
Can you do this stretch without using a yoga wheel?
Can you picture the stretch being done without a yoga wheel?
I used the rounded arm of my sofa. It seems to work.
not only is she knwledgable in the arts shes also quite highlpy attractive. Culture dudes know why we here lol. awesome video imo. Ignore the hatrs you hopefully will have success with all you do.
Did
I cant do it 😪
what can i rig to be like a yoga wheel? not buying one anytime soon
keg lol
The arm of your couch.
Won’t be as effective but you’ll feel it if you’re psoas is very tight.
I saw a yoga wheel at an Academy Sporting Goods store the other day and it seemed pretty reasonably priced to me.
A small pedal bin perhaps
How about a swiss ball? Would that work?
Always though doing that to your back is bad but guess I was worng thanks for info..
Nope, not bad to extend your spine unless you are hyper extending your low back to accomplish it. That’s why I noted that in the video, and also to stop if you feel pain.
@@SukieBaxter Does sciatica pain fix it self after time..
That’s a really complex answer. It depends on the source of the “sciatica” pain. Sciatica or sciatic nerve pain is a term often applied generally to pain radiating down the back of the leg, but also sometimes the side of the leg. True sciatica is an impingement at the spine level and can be from misalignment or narrowing of the bony canals through which nerves run. Piriformis syndrome presents with similar symptoms but stems from muscle tightness in the back of the hip. And then you have the stress component which can cause your brain to “misfire” and feel pain where there is no injury. The latter two often resolve with time and reductions in stress. The former two can resolve on their own but sometimes need medical intervention. So proper diagnosis is key.
Thanks much..
@@rishisingh7608 any time!
My back is so tight that everwhere the wheel presses is tender. Is this normal?
I have tried to do this so many times, bought a stupid wheel, but it just feels like im doing it wrong. Its so uncomfortable!!!
Feeling more relix 😅
wow, I didn't expected my head to be so heavy......
What can I use instead of a yoga wheel?
Honestly, there isn't a good substitute. You really need a yoga wheel for this.
I used a 20 liter bucket wrapped in a towel...
Ok…I don’t have a yoga wheel. Bummed there isn’t another way to do the stretch. Trying it with a foam roller.
That was nice. Lots of yawning happening.
I took a stick with a round end and jammed it into the spoas area in line with hip then raised lowered my knee after on both sides. Now my nose is clearing. Wow. Somethings happening...
I have such horrible anxiety, I feel like air can’t psyically path they deeply, due to this I feel every 20 seconds I have to yawn but even most times air still doesn’t go in. I feel like I’m suffocating everyday, my chest always have a overwhelming feeling. This is so unbearable.
I can’t focus good on any task because I have to yawn every 20-30 seconds. Its so annoying that literally Bite my arm as anger release. Imagine feeling on the run everyday, with not being able to breath, then uncomfortablly yawning 300 times a day.
Acupuncture is a great way to start, find a community acupuncture clinic that’s a 501(c) and it won’t cost so much and you can go more regular.
Actually it’s 12 x 5” yoga wheel. Im 5.5” thank you.
2:50 yoga wheel use, then instructions….
I want this yoga wheel to come to me. I can't order on Amazon because they don't know how to read directions that they have to deliver to the back door because my landlords live in the front and I don't want any Amazon driver to deliver anything to my landlord's front door. I work for the county full time I go to work I start at 7:30 in the morning I don't get off till 5:30 so if you SPS says pick it up at the door when am I going to go to the door? USPS is only open 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and it's not like I have a husband or wife I don't have anybody picking up my mail for me. So yoga wheel wherever you are in the universe I live in Riverside County California I asked you to find me come to me I am going to love you and I know you have a owner out there somewhere that no longer needs you and I am willing to take over and use you. I will take care of you I will use you and I will open up these tight muscles in my body. I'm calling to you yoga wheel come to me I know you can hear me. I'm not going to be using Amazon nor USPS
How about doing a video on blue jean yoga. Or corduroy yoga. Letting women know that they don't have wear the traditional black leotard in order for yoga to work. Yoga can be done in red or light blue corduroy and still be effective. This would also speak to low income women who may not have the extra funds to spend on leotards. Thanks. And keep up the good work.
Someone looks good in yoga pants and it's not me
Hi sukie, I'm gili.
buy a pso-rite. its designed to stretch the psoas
I know this is irrelevant to the purpose of the video, but watching, I'm struck by the thought: "Gee, it's nice to look at a woman who isn't covered with tattoos!"
