Favorite Maharshi quote: One of the greatest enlightened sages to ever live, Ramana Maharshi, was once asked, “How should we treat others?” He replied, “There are no others.”
You, are not the doer. You do what you are called upon to do and nothing more. This quote comes to mind: "See the selfish motive behind every action and watch it until it dissolves." Nisargadatta Maharaj
Beautiful. Ramana's teachings cut through all the cleverness mind can muster to perpetuate its storyline and brings one to silence. And in that silence arises a possibility of transformation.
Bhagavans teachings, if not taught to you by a bonafide Guru from a bonafide lineage, can and will be misinterpreted by your mind. His teachings tho very simple and direct, were only meant for ripe souls who were ready to hear it. One should thoroughly study over and over and over Sri Adi Shankaracharyas texts such as Vivekachudamani and learn the ancient technique of sravana, manana and nididhyasana (listening, reflecting and deeply meditating upon the teaching given by ones spiritual Master, in this case Sri Bhagavan). This is the most direct and proper way to approach this Knowledge as prescribed to us by our head Acharyas. Teachers these days tend to think that they can just take short cut but they end up right back into the same ignorance that they are trying to transcend. There are no shortcuts other than the Gurus grace, therefore be earnest and diligent, Self-Realization is the most expensive attainment there is, so much so it'll cost you your life. Aum Namo Bhagavate Sri Ramanaya Aum ~
Suffering is due to identification with the false and temporary self. Remove ego, remove suffering. This is the core of Advaita Vedanta. "Troubles arise only whe there is a second self" -Maharishi This is a huge contrast to the Mahayana Buddhist view of the Boddisattva which is to forego your own salvation UNTIL others reach it first. This is contrary to ultimate reality, which is non-dual. The Theravada Buddhists got it more correctly by working on themselves first. IL
I thought Zen is also Mahayana Buddhism…they always talk about non-self and silence, very akin to Advaita. So many Zen teachers cross-over. Tolle, Spira, etc…
Saved to my playlist. thank you, for years i have seen Ramana's picture at Yoga Studios, today I watched a dozen videos and lectures and commentaries about him. What a beautiful soul and I can feel the silence and clarity through his eyes. Namaste.
A note from Carl Jung's books. " ...The gasping of the whole is obviously the aim of science as well, but it is a goal that necessarily lies very far off because science, whenever possible, proceeds experimentally and in all cases statistically. Experiment, however consists in asking a definite question which excludes as far as possible anything disturbing and irrelevant. It makes conditions, imposes them on nature, and in this way, forces her to give an answer devised by man..." This is not the case of science only, this is the case in "spirituality " too.
there is a difference between helping the world that God created vs fixing the world that we ruined. Sri Ramana Maharshi means that the world God created will be sustained regardless of human intervention or, with or without human involvement. However, the world we humans have so eagerly destroyed one generation at a time requires actions from us humans to restore the balance. Thus, it is a requirement, not a choice! Also, from "advaita vedanta" ideologies, whatever Sri Ramana Maharshi is saying is true for He-Himself has realized and witnessed the non-duality principle of existence. However, from a non-liberated "Dukhi-Aatma" perspective, maya "the illusion" is real and without helping hands, it is not possible to sustain the very fabric of society that has evolved human emotions into not just the negative illusion, but also the amplified state of love and devotion. every time the non-duality idea kicks in, I tend to remember Lord Rama who is running around in pain while searching for His beloved who has recently been kidnapped by Ravana. The supreme Lord Himself, the creator of maya Himself goes around the forest in tears asking trees, and animals to figure out where Sita-mata might have been taken. The desperation, the longing, the separation. It tears me up easily. you see, even though maya is illusion, the path to liberation is through maya. Demi-Gods such as Indras and other Devatas cannot get liberated unless they come into human form in to this realm of illusion. "Swargadwari bata swarga jana sajilo cha, tara chitta bata bhagawan pauna gaaro huncha"

His teachings are similar to advaita vedanta but they are not advaita vedanta. The discussion around dreams etc is one of the most regretful misunderstandings of advaita vedanta. It doesn't say the world is a dream. It uses it as a metaphor.
This is what Jesus, peace be upon him, meant in the parable where he says, "If you did it to them you did it to me." It is also why Allah says We in the Qur'an.

Practice Atma Vichara( Self Enquiry) morning noon and night. Something will begin to change within you. Every thing you perceive is Maya(grand illusion). If you identify with the body, you will suffer and imagine others to be suffering. This is what the body has to go through. If you identify with the Self, with the I AM you can eventually perceive this world to be unreal. Think of the Self as space. No matter what happens in the Universe space remains still, silent and unaffected. You eventually become what you identify with. You are space. You are omnipresent, omniscient, omnipotent. See yourself and be free.🙏🕉Om Nama Sivaya! Jai Arunachala Sadhu, Jai Bhagavan Maharishi Ramana!

From his plane of consciousness, he spoke the truth like he had to. The answer to "who am I?" is profound (he popularised it?). From selfish gene perspective too, there's no way to keep from some expectations (all are selfish). Once the survival plane is crossed, being the "instrument" and not the "agent" makes the journey of "self" to "one" pretty conducive (one = zero = infinity -- plain math becomes not so plain here). The wise one is just pointing that out when he's saying "you are helping yourself".
the other day I just realized, the genes are important, we are just spores, animals are bigger gametes for the purpose of reproducing DNA, its so easy to see how irrelevant the entire plant, its only purpose is to generate seeds, funny this brain thing gives the illusion of self.
@@monad_tcp Yeah. Brain evolved, at least partly, to enhance the survival of the body (gamete producer). The illusion of identifying the body, the cues it gets from environment, the simulations, thoughts and emotions as "self" probably helps the body's survival and increases the chances of passing it on and preserving the "spores" (and reshuffled DNA) in the new body.

Just be aware that Ramana Maharshi’s teachings contain a lot of contradictions and errors. The physical universe is not an illusion as many pseudo/Neo-Advaitans believe and teach. The physical universe is the body/form of the infinite, eternal, formless consciousness. The infinite, eternal, formless consciousness is the true concept of God. It is real quantum field.

Weird. Started off like she was being critical (offended) because she didn't get it, but then it turns out she does and was feigning offence earlier on?
Why cannot one work on Punya karya and Aham/Ahankara (ego) simultaneously? Even for argument's sake if one agrees that everyone is equal at a cosmic level(concept of oneness), there is existential and circumstantial difference in lives.
I think he was referring to the type of social work where people view their assistance as themselves being separate from the people they are helping, or if they do it with ulterior motives other than genuine unconditional love.
@@PratibhaRaut333 Yes, I agree. Dhana (charity) done always has motives, ulterior or not. To raise above that motive is like attaining the ultimate oneness, and that is what he mentions. Can anybody do anything without a motive/reason that does not involve them in any form? It would be interesting to understand.
There are a lot of poeple who donate to certain causes that they feel passionately about, without expecting anything in return. But, even then, 'feeling a sense of fulfilment', 'joy' etc is mixed in the equation.
@@PratibhaRaut333 Right! Inner joy, atonement for a sin, joy of giving, etc are some ways of expressing when somebody donates. Ultimately, one cannot escape from this. If one can give/accept without expectations (receiver's gratitude/return favor), regardless of what they feel inside, it shouldn't be much of an issue.
