hi micheal, i'm trying to compress a video with a 1:1 ration, but when i'm loading it into handbrake it crops down to 16:9. when i try the amorphic: off/custom option it distorts the cropped video to a 1:1 format instead of viewing the full video. Any ideas?
I have a completely different window under dimension and even after resetting resolution and turned anomorphic off the video aspect ratio didn't change.
Thanks, but they've changed the interface in v. 1.5.1... the 'Keep Aspect Ratio' checkbox isn't there anymore... I had to do 'Resolution Limit': Custom, 'Anamorphic': Off, 'Optimal Size': Off then uncheck 'Automatic' under ;'Final Dimensions'...
this appears to be using an old version of Handbrake. I'm using v1.6.1 on Windows 11 and the screens look very different with many more options. I am experimenting with converting my VHS tapes to digital, used OBS to get a 1080P .mkv (black bars on the sides) but handbrake tries to get rid of those and in so doing, stretches the video out.
When I press open source, I don't get a big list of stuff. I have hanbrake, do I have to download something else to change the aspect ratio from 4:3 to 16:9. I cannot do this, it's doing my head in. Why are computers so complicated?
The handbrake interface is different now and between Windows/Linux. In linux I need to set under resolution and scaling Res Limit = same as video (576p) Anamorphic = auto/custom (doesn't matter) optimal size = uncheck and just set Final Dimensions to , auto off
Thanks for the video, but the interface has changed enough that this is no longer relevant. All sorts of things are making slight changes to aspect ratio very difficult to figure out.
It depends on what aspect you're trying to change it to. But say it's 720x576 and it's showing in 4:3, but should be 16:9. Then divide 576/9 = 64 multiply 64x16 = 1024 which will give the correct ratio at 1024x576p
Yes, it can, but why would you want to do that? You're only making the file bigger without gaining actual resolution. Let your player do the upscaling instead.
@@edwinov Because it’s drone video at 720p and UA-cam degrades the video. So if you up scale to 1440 or 1080 when UA-cam is done compressing the footage it still looks good. I use LumaFusion it doesn’t upscale.
My Handbrake does not look like this. I had v1.51, and updated to 1.6 and it still doesn't look like this. What's more, the Storage Size and Display Size cannot be changed

I have a question, I have a Sony VX1000, the ratio size is 4:3 how do I compress my videos, so it doesn’t look pixelated and grainy.

Needed to adjust for v.1.7.3 on Windows, but Upscaling checked and Anthropomorphic "None" let me make the change

I think my version is wrong. I can't change aspect ratio.
After changing the dimensions go to the summary tab to see results before you initiate the job to be done, so you know beforehand.
how do i change from 16:9 to 9:16 to optimise my video for youtube shorts?

Simple! Just turn cropping off.
