Friday, December 30, 1938 As the end of the year draws near, the Europe, yet again, braces itself against the tides of war. Just few months earlier, we were covering the triumphant return of the Prime Minister Chamberlain from the conference in Munich, where the Bohemian disputes were seemingly resolved, but this was not meant to be. Surprisingly enough, the agreement was broken by the most unexpected party. Poland, known officially as the Polish People's Republic since the victory of the Polish Socialist Party in the nation-wide referendum on February 1, this year, was one of the beneficiaries of the Munich conference, receiving a 310 sq mi region of Zaolzie. On the September 10, the Polish Ministry of Interior established a Zaolzie Incorporation Committee - special government body, which purpose was to incorporate the new region into Polish administrative jurisdiction. The committee concluded its operation and presented the results to the Polish parliament on October 20. On October 24, the President of the PPR, Mr Gomulka, released a statement, printed in press and broadcast by radio, regarding the findings of the committee. He said: "(...)the state of the working class in Zaolzie is frightening. The workers, matter not - Polish or Czech or German - are treated inhumane and without dignity. (...) The Czechoslovakian government completely disregarded fundamental needs of its working people. It is apparent, that such treatment is not limited to Zaolzie. Thereat we, (...), must react - our decision not coming from anger, but from basic human decency. (...)the Czechoslovakian capitalists and rulers understand only the argument of strength. As so we will converse with them by the means of strength." Later that day, statement of similar tone was released by the Polish Prime Minister, Mr Lampe. On the morning of October 26, the official declaration of war was handed to Czechoslovakian ambassador in Poland. Analogous documents were given to the Czechoslovakian diplomats in other Comintern countries. At noon on the same day, the first Polish units crossed the Polish-Czechoslovak border. In the first days of combat it became apparent, that this war wasn't going to play out like the Great War. Polish forces launched two simultaneous attacks on the areas not greater than 25-50 mi in length. These attacks consisted of rapid infantry advance supported by massive artillery units (careful estimates say, that Polish support corps consist of 3-8 thousand artillery batteries). These units never ceased fire. They have prepared the field in opening barrage, supported infantry in actual fight by focusing their fire on the positions send to them via radio and followed retreating Czechoslovak units after the fight was over. On the November 23, the third attack was made. This time it was directed trough Western Slovakia and towards Brno and was executed by the Polish cavalry regiments. This swift attack came as surprise to the Czechoslovakian defenders - up until that day, there was no heavy fighting in that region. The cavalry was reported to "Came from nowhere, hauling artillery pieces and machine guns with them". On the December 3, first attack pierced trough Eastern Slovakia and stopped on the Hungarian border. This created a closed pocket of land - an island, still controlled by Czechoslovaks, embraced tightly by Polish forces. Four days later, on December 8, the German border guards reported sighting of the Polish cavalry in the forests west of Brno. Thus, the second pocket was created. By the December 13, merely ten days after its creation, the first pocket collapsed. Even the mighty Czechoslovakian tanks were no match for the tactics and the amount of artillery shells the Poles flung at them. The Red Cross was allowed to enter the pocket area. "It was like a scene from nightmare" - says one of the relievers - "You cannot distinguish dead from living. They are all dirty, rugged and hungry. Many of them display symptoms of shell-shock. They began to eat their own horses." Regarding the causalities, neither Polish, nor Czechoslovakian governments disclosed any numbers. The Red Cross official estimates: "For the Bohemians they may be as high as 170 thousand. Especially after collapse of the Eastern Slovakia. By the end of the year we might be looking at the 200, maybe 250 thousand, including the wounded of course.". Asked about the Polish loses he said: "Far less, I assure you. We cannot be sure, after all the Poles have complete control over the region and are able to treat their wounded. If I had to guess, I would say that they have sustained no more than 30 thousand causalities - again, killed and wounded.". Now, near the New Year's Eve, entire Slovakia burns under Polish control. At the same time, the Polish forces mass around Brno, for, as it seems, the final push, deep into the Bohemia and Moravia. Just as I finish catching up on the first three episodes, you've put up _another one_. It's at times like this I really appreciate your insane upload rate. At other times, I see 40 episodes up and 2-3 more every day and just give up.
I like your idea of preempting Czechoslovakia to shorten your defensive line against Germany. You are right that the choke points will hurt though. Also, I'm interested in seeing how you stack up to the Luftwaffe when it hits the field.
Why do you say that? I thought the Soviets would make their move on those after the non-aggression pact with Germany. At least that's how that went down in regular history. Traditionally that would be to Poland's detriment but we aren't exactly playing the same moves as history right now and the Sov's are your ally. What changed?. Or am I missing the point?
Actually, yes. There was a lot of specialization in the tech tree and this generated a lot of flavor, such as with experienced units using out-of-date equipment and fresh units with the latest equipment. Or militia units with an insane attachment. And there were many instances where you would even opt to build out-of-date divisions or attachments due to cost efficiency.
Just saying your combat width is insane with all those companies in one division i'd cut back on so me of them in the template they are so big that if you attack the base CW is 80 your divisions are like 50 so you can only fit one in at a time.
Aren't you worried about your combat width? Maybe I missed it but your armies have well over 40, and that is going to make it very inefficient/difficult to get all your units on the front line during an attack...
My only concern is that when the Germans come in, Marbs will be caught with his pants down, with anti-tank weapons barely done, but reputedly the Poles in OTL already had some antitank weapons like the wz35 - and the Germans still had to rely on cavalry actions in some areas. The problem was that the Polish army didn't have enough antitank weapons.
I'm pretty sure air superiority will be an issue as well. Engaging the third reich without anti-air strikes me as suicide, but I don't know this game well.
Still, what's a LP that doesn't become a roflstomp of the AI? fun, that is. You have NO idea how stale TW LPs can get. Even Surrealbeliefs' Empire playthrough for TWWH has passed a critical stage and he's ....... like ....... mopping up. STILL, in retrospect, Marbz probably did the right thing in dragging Russia into his war. I only wonder if there is a certain meter somewhere where if Communist aggression is suffciently high enough Germany, France and Britain will band together. Because remember historically most people actually had favourable views of Hitler; it was only AFTER he attacked Poland and then Denmark that attitudes towards him began to harden. EVEN the French who should (and IMHO could) have stabbed him in the back during the September campaign hardly did anything.
Usually they don't take too long but Marbz seems to be microing units because of the unique shape of Czechslovakia, it's difficult to conquer from the polish direction but really easy from the German direction. In addition its mountainous, hilly, and forested.
Fascist Poland seems easier, I agree, but I already had a test run or two as Fascist Poland (and you can indeed join the Axis before the war starts), so I wanted to try something different. If this game fails, I'll do a different strategy in the next series.
Look at all the resources we dedicated to killing each other. And this episode features a small war. Why did our fathers and grandfathers abide such non-sensical violence? At least the hippies were onto SOMETHING...heh, druggs.
the representation of communism in HoI 4 is autocratic so that makes me sad but there are democratic variations and a democratic communist Poland would indeed be amazing

That was great!
You are amazing. Great job.
Write my smut! /sarcasm.
Would it contain human misery, death, moral ambiguity, communism, grease or horses? I'm quite thorough in regards of my fetishes.
This is so unique, starting with Poland and preparing to defend against Germany. Marbs sounds like he's really enjoying this. Go you!
Thanks! I'm quite enjoying HoI4 so far, yes. ;)
^^^ not a review just an opinion :) I am enjoying your LP compared to all the other ones. Keep up the good work
Just as I finish catching up on the first three episodes, you've put up _another one_. It's at times like this I really appreciate your insane upload rate. At other times, I see 40 episodes up and 2-3 more every day and just give up.
Sleeps for the night and finds 2 more episodes xD
Criminally underrated series you have here! I've enjoyed this so far!
Wow under 100 views. Waited for this all day
I've been checking and checking waiting for this. Awesome series.
Great series, loving it!
Nice video man! keep up with the good content!
I'll have to try your artillery-heavy strategy in my next playthrough. It looks very interesting.
I really am enjoying this series
It sounded like you said "and it'll give our infantry, plus 25 percent heart attack". lol.
"How are we doing in the east?.....We're not wining!!!..well try harder then".....I love your commentary Marb.:)
finally another episode
"Screw this war guys, I'm going to Norway" XD
21:50 "screw you guys! I'm going home" *cartman hand thing
I like your idea of preempting Czechoslovakia to shorten your defensive line against Germany. You are right that the choke points will hurt though. Also, I'm interested in seeing how you stack up to the Luftwaffe when it hits the field.
In hindsight though, I should've prioritized Baltic countries.
I'm worried that the tech tree has been "too streamlined". Only 2 anti-tank infantry techs? There used to be 7 or 8.
You realy wanted again research AT-Inf Wep. for every year to be up-to-date?
Actually, yes. There was a lot of specialization in the tech tree and this generated a lot of flavor, such as with experienced units using out-of-date equipment and fresh units with the latest equipment. Seems like the battle planning feature is under used. Or wrongly used.
This series is so good I'm barely surviving with only one episode a day ;--;
I've per-ordered this game after watching this :)
If this game is historically correct- French independence guarantees are worthless :)
Exactly.
Hahahaha
just think trying to do this sort of lets play but with Chechoslovakia xD even more hardcore but i can see marbs wining
Arumba is doing Germany and the most surprising he don't start by building civilian factories. Quill is doing a great run as Italy.
and Taueror has already conquered Germany as Poland
More~!
i think that you should search for a game called Supremacy 1914,i would love to see you play it
Let's make Poland great again !
Poland is and has always been great. *Denounced!*
#MakePolandStronkAgain
*****
That's what the Soviets did.
Again?
Aren't you worried about your combat width? Maybe I missed it but your armies have well over 40, and that is going to make it very inefficient/difficult to get all your units on the front line during an attack...
How did Hungary take those Czech provinces?
the battle plan is actually annoying, the soldier keep ignoring your order
I keep saying in my head "Get rid of that useless front line in the east!" hahahaa
I *was* wondering how you were going to counter Panzers with divisions that are mostly soft-attack :)
Infantry based anti tank weapons ahead of their time...
portland573 Yes, hence why I said "I *was*": the episode answered that question :)
Unrelated: the department of redundancy department is hiring :P
Where dat part 5 at, it was just getting interesting :(
It's coming!

"it's actually slightly annoying, that we are no winning" i feekl your pain marbor:)
are you going to do civ6 when it comes out?
no ofc hes not that would totally not be the next logical step after so many civ 5 games
Civilization? Never heard of it.

I mean, he's only gotten to play the first 60 turns of the early beta by Firaxis.
What is this guys accent? I love it.
I believe he is from Poland
Hah, half of Czechoslovakia falls! I hope getting through that choke isn't going to be difficult...
This is for the first time I was hoping that Marbozir would lose a war.
Why?
Because he was invading my country... ;)
+slanecek You know your country is screwed when the opponents strategist is Marbozir. That and building too many wonders in your capital.
I really hope you research motorise infantry. your armies will move faster
You just cut my homeland apart
These wars take forever.
Usually they don't take too long but Marbz seems to be microing units because of the unique shape of Czechslovakia, it's difficult to conquer from the polish direction but really easy from the German direction. In addition its mountainous, hilly, and forested.
I think allying with Germany would have been better due to the amount of nations that join the axis

How Gernany hasn't annexed the Sudetanland?
They must not have done the national focus to get it yet
He did the usual Rhineland focus, but if I understand Arumba choose military plants instead of the civilian factories?
aquele like bruto e um salve pra quem consegue ler esse texto :)
I tried this strategy, but when I was close to conquering slovakia, it became a german reich puppet and I wasn't allowed to go there anymore :(
But can Poland into space?
No, but Poland can into win this time.
For the Czechoslovakia!!!!
The combat still confuses me
Pierdole, dziś pójdzie w ruch moja złota karta (jedna z wielu)
XDDDDDDDDD
Soviet Army helped so much they lost 42 men lol
