How 2 Arcane Mage: Basics, Rotation, and Talents for Dragonflight Season 3 and 4

- Let's look at how the arcane mage operates. Together, we will grow an organic understanding of the basics and be able to incorporate those basics into most any spec variation you choose. I have been a mage for about 15 years now, favoring arcane. I also have several max level mages, all arcane. I have two main arcane mages that I play, both of which can easily tackle a Mythic Keystone level 20, so I feel as though I'm an authority on the subject of arcane mages. And I thought it was time to share some of my wisdom. Hopefully, someone out there is helped. Enjoy!

This is incredible. I love your approach to explaining how things work in a simple but not condescending way. I wish every class and spec guide were made like this. I got so overwhelmed with all the abilities when I first started (DF launch) that I couldn't really even enjoy playing the game, but watching this clear and concise video with the relaxing music and simple but easy to understand notation had me following along even though I've never played the spec and am a complete beginner at the game. It made me want to try out Arcane Mage! Truly fantastic. Other guide makers should use this as the gold standard.

This brought back nostalgia of watching blues clues and when the voice asks "hmm I wonder how this works" because of what we've learned so far I'm yelling in my head OH OH SPEND THE CHARGES AND THEN REFRESH THEM! and then it feels so good to hear him say hmm, well what if we spend all the charges and use this to refresh them and you just get so giddy because you're LEARNING

I cannot believe I actually found what I was looking for. THIS is the way to explain in the easiest way for any player of any skill level so they understand the basics but actually understand what's going on, not just a rotation they need to memorize. In other words, we're not just learning how to do it but WHY to do it which is key to learning anything new. Coming from playing a Prot Pally and Outlaw Rogue, ranged DPS is was different for me. In my case, it feels like I have a mixture of my pally's utilities with my rogue's requirement to pay attention to procs so I know what button to smash. I immediately subscribed and I look forward to watching all your videos whether I play the class or not simply for the sake of understanding them in case I decide I want to deviate from my go-to pally or rogue (and now mage).

LORDY! Where to begin...First off thank you for going SLOW and breaking down what each thing does. This game is super confusing at times for someone who has not played. I have a level 40 Arcane mage and i am enjoying it! Problem is i didn't know you needed to do certain rotations to MAXIMIZE potential. I will practice this rotation until i get comfortable! Gained a subscriber!

Just wanted to tell you that tonight I was just about to give up playing my mage until I found your video. I love mage, the portals and teleports. The flashy spells and the lore of the class but I was struggling to understand Arcane and it's what I really wanted to play. Your explanation was really easy to understand and now I understand the basic of the spec. As I get more comfortable I'll continue to learn from your videos. I also plan to check out your fire and frost videos.

How did you get your buffs to stream above your action bars? Is that in the default UI? Super neat.

You can click that little yellow triangle to collapse and expand your buffs shown from long term buffs to short term ones. Ty, this was helpful. I have been playing frost mage for many, many years. I do wish that they would balance all of the specs better so that you don't feel like you have to go with on over the other. Arcane is over powered compared to the frost and fire.

Just came back and have been looking to change from healing main and went with mage for something different. Arcane is something i don't see much of and watned to give it a try. This guide makes it very simple to understand the rotation.

The best thing may be to get "True Stat Values" as a mod. So when you scroll over your stats, it tells you the cap. But as a general rule: mastery 1, crit 2, haste 3.

How can I show only the buffs that I cast on myself? It’s so hard to pay attention to the ones I’m supposed to pay attention to, when I’ve got like 30
different buffs active from a bunch of other sources…

How are you getting your buffs to show only spell related procs? I have weekly buff, whatever consumables I have on.... Or do you not have any buffs at all during this video aside from the ones being generated through talents?
Little yellow triangle by your buff bar that looks like a Play button. Click it😃

@allenmanyen1226 your shield Prismatic Barrier) is your self damage absorb. Your mass barrier is a talent on the mage side that gives your group your shield. Also, the diverted energy talent passively heals you. Alter time also heals, it's one of the last spells used in the vid.

As for dps, I do pretty good. I'm usually top dps in higher mythics, but it all depends on what needs done and who else is in the group. I've went head to head with a 486 fire mage when I was 484 and beat them in dps in Atal level 21. Currently BM hunters, demon hunters, and ret pallys are my dps competitors. Even so, I usually beat them too.
The two great things about this spec and playstyle is the burst aoe is crazy, and single target is amazingly sustainable.

So arcane was one the specs i thought i will never play since people said was 2 damn difficult. And since mage was the only class i didn’t have at 70 i decided to make one and in searching for a frost guide i found your page and now im at lvl 30 and i can’t stop playing arcane.

This is a one-size-fits all. I use this spec for everything. It is easy to start learning with and is also deeply nuanced. I run this spec for myrhics and raids. I may use a ramp spec for certain raid bosses. Thank you for watching!
When you get fluid with the spec, more complex parts will emerge. For example, timing a rotation to utilize Arcane Harmony, or offsetting the timing of Presence of Mind. There's a lot packed in there!

I started leveling my mage in the last few days and I grew font of the Arcane spec. I like that it is a bit of a battle mage type of combat in M+.
Question: In a M+ mob pack, If I got a clearcasting proc and have 2-3 charges, do I send an AB with 2-3 charges (and hope Orb Barrage procs) or do I use the cc proc on AE first to get to 4 charges before AB?
That is a really good question!
If you have 1 charge and also have clearcasting, Arcane Explosion would be best, so you get the 4 charges that you can then release.
If you have 2 charges and also have clearcasting, using the clearcasting Arcane Missiles on the primary target followed by 2 Arcane Blast may be the best option. Most M+ Mob packs have a primary kill target, which is usually your interrupt target as well. But if that is not the case, Arcane Explosion would still be best. Then release your Barrage.
If you have 3 charges and also have clearcasting, you could use the clearcasting Missiles on the primary target and only cast one Arcane Blast, then Barrage, then the second Arcane Blast. But if that is not the case, release that Barrage and pray the the Blizzard gods you get an orb!

My talents are shown at 14:55. As for the WA, I don't use it unfortunately. But you'll want to track the following: nether precision, clearcasting, arcane surge. Once you get 4 set bonus, start also tracking: arcane battery, arcane artillery. As for cooldowns; presence of mind, shifting power, touch of the magi, arcane surge. Hope this helps and good luck!
