You are my favourite UA-camr for mage guides! You helped me get started with Frost a few months back (first time playing retail) and swapped to Arcane recently. Coming from Classic I found this can all be quite overwhelming, but your video pacing and simple explanations are brilliant. Especially with the “when you see X, think Y” analogies. Thank you mate! 🧙 Do you have a link or recommendations for setting up your UI like in the video?
Fantastic video. Really informative. Regarding charges. Should I be waiting until I get clearcasting before casting barrage, or shall I jist let it fly at 4 charges irrelevant. And, should I always wait for 4 charges for barage, or wait can you let them fly at 3?. Thanks for your content. I've decided to give arcane a go
That's awesome you want to give arcane a whirl! Your charges are like strength, so get 4 and release, if you're using magis spark with this situation, you can shoot the barrage at 4, then capture it with spark/touch, then spend clearcasting. Leaving you with blast to finish the minigame. Preheat goes over this same concept in his recent video as well.
Great guide and explanation honestly one of the best out there, insta sub no questions asked, though if I may request if you can make a quick guide for the UI and the add ons/scripts used if any thanks again mate

@@ArcaneBrillianceMagemanda Yes i try to remake it in edit mode but it keeps showing me unimportant stuff like Arcane Intellect?`How do you split these?
Great vid! I was planning to main a mage this expansion but I am already having second thoughts. During prepatch there are times when Clearcasting won't proc and I keep using Arcane Blast (with all active charges) and this devastates my mana (it easily drops to 20%). During a fight against Ragnaros I had to do like 12-14 Arcane Blasts in order for Clearcasting to proc. Especially when Surge is on cooldown, I can easily run out of mana. Visually it looks great but I may stick with my DH.... or try Fire Mage
Arcane mage looks to be so much fun in TWW and I might end up maining one. Excellent guide and I love the pacing, but most of all, I love that you explain not only the how, but the why(this is the most important part of any tutorial/guide to me).
Finally gave up - put everything I had into trying to get better at Arcane Mage, with all that effort and the aim to be average the best I could achieve is bottom 3%. No idea why - so I've stopped doing group stuff now. A lot more relaxed not having to put huge effort into no returns.
One of the things that I've always disliked about Arcane Mage (which would be my preferred spec due to class fantasy) has been that the guides on the internet basically say (i'm paraphrasing hard here) that you'll do crap damage generally except for a window of 20-seconds or so when you have to perform a perfectly timed ballet of a dozen different abilities in a hyper-specific order taking advantage of quirks of the engine and how it interacts with internet latency and the lag of communication between your PC and the server, after which you have to settle for doing crap damage again for a minute or so before you're ready to be a real damage-dealer again. It's actually put me off playing mage for several expansions. This is why your talent build is such a breath of fresh air - this video, along with some of your mythic+ gameplay videos make the spec seem so fun - and you're NOT USING EVOCATION. Every guide I see online has Evocation listed as a mandatory talent for all content. I wonder if the conventional wisdom (using evocation as a DPS cooldown to be timed with Touch of the magi and Arcane Surge) is simply unaware of the viability of a build that lacks evocation or if not talenting into it is gimping your damage potential in a not-insignificant way? Curious as to your thoughts as I lack the skill in game or on a spreadsheet to really analyze/theorycraft this.
Thank you for watching! I think that people are aware of different builds being able to complete top end mythics, or at least the top that would yield gear (like doing a 28 is the same as doing a 20), but it's not the best. And I personally feel it has become an obsession to be best, and to stay competitive in the DPS field. I know if that's your environment, like a mythic raiding guild, your goal is to exploit every resource to dish out DPS. If that is your goal and what you derive pleasure from, by all means. But to me personally, it becomes work. You clock in at the ready check, and do the same thing over and over. If you mess up the rotation in the slightest, and the mage next to you didn't, well, that could mean the difference in whether or not you get to go to the next raid. No one wants to be on the bottom of the meter - that's the common idea. But there will always be a bottom person. So who cares who's on bottom? On a personal, personal note: I think sometimes people are pressured into proving themselves. And we can just hard stop on that statement right there. You don't have to prove yourself to anyone. No body! We get lost in this turbulent sea of expectations and standards we lose sight of why you even logged on in the first place. For a lot of us, it's to have fun. Your fun. Not what other people want you to do. Not the rotation that must be executed perfectly. Not the haters telling you to reroll. But fun. Plain and simple. I was recently contacted on Discord by a viewer wanting to improve their gameplay. So I dedicated some time in beta to help them understand the flow of arcane. Our conversation began with me asking "what do you want out of this spec"? And their answer about brought me to tears. They said "I love casting arcane blast because it looks cool, but I run outta mana. I want to shoot out more splinters, because they are a pretty animation. And I don't want a lot of buttons to press." DPS wasn't even mentioned until we addressed some of their end goals for the spec. Some of those goals included running higher stuff with their friends. So, we worked together on a spec that combined a nudge in the DPS direction, as well as helping them form a rotation that maximized how many blasts and splinters they could produce. So DPS was a secondary condition. And to me, that was a breath of fresh air. I stood there almost stunned. 'More focused on fun than DPS?' I thought. Ultimately, a sim and theorycrafting will eventually make you the best player in WoW. But it may not make you happy. And I think that sentiment translates well outside of the game as well.
@@ArcaneBrillianceMagemanda Amazing response and thank you for that. I can't express adequately how much that resonates with me. I main a protection paladin (and have done so since vanilla, same character even) and my class fantasy - what I found fun - was protecting my allies. And if they get hurt, I can heal them. So this expansion, I decided to make my own spec with the talents that *I* found fun. My guild is long-since broken up, so any competitive end-game content I do is with PUGs. My thought is - these may be strangers, but they're strangers who are trusting me to keep them alive and time these M+ keystones. With that in mind, my spec focused on personal survivability and healing/cleansing/protecting the other group members. If I could sacrifice a talent that increased my personal damage, but it allowed me to take a talent that made it easier for me to stay alive or to keep my allies alive, I did it. I ended up getting keystone master. I timed 95% of all the keys I attempted. Competitive players absolutely reviled against it - some even accused me of griefing or intentionally ruining the chances of the party to time keystones and threatened to report me. I just had a different playstyle than the meta, and it worked really well, in my opinion. Maybe I didn't have my wings up as often as the meta build, my judgments didn't hit as hard, etc. But my Word of Glory off-heals could basically full-heal an ally at the drop of a hat.
@Thaddeus9287 Thank you for sharing your story. I tell people, "You do you" and in my mind I end it with, 'because who else could you be but yourself?'

You helped me get started with Frost a few months back (first time playing retail) and swapped to Arcane recently.
Coming from Classic I found this can all be quite overwhelming, but your video pacing and simple explanations are brilliant.
Especially with the “when you see X, think Y” analogies.

@@evanskan6326 Thank you for watching, and it might help your mana if you take the Evocation and Mana Familiar talents. Good luck! See you in TWW!

And I don't want a lot of buttons to press."
DPS wasn't even mentioned until we addressed some of their end goals for the spec.

Hello, very explanatory guide, thanks for that! I'm gonna shotout your channel at my MDI debut lol.
