Think about this for a second people: Roderick is a completely ordinary guy, just like you or me, but with more money. He just wants to marry the pretty pyromaniac girl. Yet, after bearing witness to exactly the kind of horrors they'll be up against at the estate party, instead of promptly running away horrified, Roderick joins the team and even ponies up a massive boat to continue the mission. He is less fearful for his own life than Isidro or most of the women, despite having seemingly no background in combat whatsoever (let alone in fighting demons.) This guy is the very definition of putting his money where his mouth is, and is just a generally classy guy. This is the guy you would actually want to hang out with, since Guts would be too busy swinging his sword to hang out. I was looking forward to seeing how things would develop between him and Farnesse, until... you know.
