For people who might be a bit skeptic about the issue of safety on this, the bridge is completely safe. It is steel reinforced built by a professional company. They added that wood on top for effect. Also the top structure that hammond knocked over is actually jusy for show, it is not reinforcing the bridge's strength in anyway. Civil engineers cleared it for even tanks or buldozers to go over it. I had the chance of meeting James May when I was in London last year. He was stuck in traffic in front of big ben and I was sight seeing on foot. An amazing man, really. He rolled down his window, talked to me for a few minutes and told me this first hand, that I shouldn't have worried although the whole point was to make us worried and entertain us lol

It's so nice to see them actually celebrate each other as each of them gets across the bridge. But since they all helped build it I suppose there's some personal pride in seeing the bridge actually being able to support (all of) their lorries.
none of them helped build it and they knew perfectly well they'd make it across since it's made of steel, assembled by an actual construction company off camera and then covered in wood whilst they were getting the shots of them titting about with cranes and whatnot

That bridge is awesome I am 100% sure the locals will have great use of it, I hope they did not remove the bridge after, the locals could cross that on foot or use it for fishing.
+King Wacky AFAIK they removed it after the shooting. Maybe for safety reasons or because it was blocking the waterway for boats or something like that.

@@Rentta I doubt that. If so, they hid it well. Despite a comment in top saying it was, people are seeing things. I analysed the vids and see no steel anywhere, except for some sheet material on top. It is possible to build a bridge strong enough to carry a truck from bamboo. Either way, even if the vertical beams are steel, it will not carry a tank. Since that remark (allegedly made by May, from hear say) is bogus, i suspect the entire hear say is bogus and thus there is not a shred of proof there is steel used. Also i do not see a single steel beam lying around anywhere.
Kaare Hansen "Slope" is apparently a racial slur for an Asian person, and there was controversy about that when the episode first aired. Personally, I've never heard of that term and I'm half Asian myself...
There's a steel superstructure underneath the bamboo cladding. There was no danger of it breaking. Even so, bamboo is stupidly strong anyway to have largely survived all the lorries going over it.
Well, it's problematic. Going faster over the bridge means that any given point on the bridge has to hold the weight for less time. However, it also means the motion of the trucks' tires on the bridge's surface is less smooth -- any jolting will be heavier and more likely to cause damage.
5:27 between Clarkson's hands in the background you can see the red steel truss behind the bamboo cladding.. so yes there was no chance of them falling in the water, and they knew it..

It was made out of metal, and constructed by professionals. The wood was added for look.
@slapypenguins101 It was all for tv. It was a metal bridge that had timber added onto it.
@slapypenguins101 Do some googling. There was no way the BBC was going to send presenters across a timber bridge.
Those bamboos are really strong if its build properly. In facts, our army's Leopard 2A6 Main Battle Tank could get through it quite easy.
