HOW IS THIS VIDEOS NOT GETTING THE DESERVED LIKES AND SHARES? ON POINT! WITH ALL THE VIDEOS AND THE SENSE OF HUMOUR ! CHEERS BRODA!
No air purge step and no air check step before putting spring on. Critical for good performance
Another great video on this restoration!
amazing tutorial, just finished mine on the XLR baja that was left in an barn for 15 years! the shock looks and works like new!
thanks again!
Hey can we talk more ?
Very well explained,
Folllowed this guide to reseal my 85 xr350r. Super similar except a couple things but nothing common sense can't solve. Thank you very much!
I'm glad you found this useful. Despite XRs being so popular there's not a bunch of information out there about repairs and rebuilds.
Good video! A couple things I'd like to suggest is replacing the bumper, backing out the clickers, not sure if the book calls for 7 weight but I normally use 2.5 on most dirt bike shocks, and putting the bladder on first, then pumping with air after circlip is installed before putting on the seal head to avoid cavitation and air bubbles.
These videos are great I have a 91 250l that I’m working on and these videos are so helpful. I wish you would have kept the original fronts to see how to get them rebuilt. Thanks for the vids!
Did you do the rebuild i need to reviild the exact same shock but cant fin the bladder replacement
Great video, I'm about to do an 03 XR250R.
How did that go? I have the same bike. I am trying to rebuild it since I can't seem to find a full replacement.
Hi there I have rebuilt many rear shocks. The main thing is be sure to get the gas charge from a reputable source. The on line Rocky Mountain videos are good. The results are always good. If you dont recharge the gas the adjusters dont work. P.S I have recharged using air which works but is not a long-term solution.@@TheBmx1331
amazing work!! i have the same bike(87 abandoned for years) and is leaking a ton of oil from the countersaft seal( sprocket). Any ideas for a temporary fix except from splitting cases??
That might be the only one you can't replace from the outside...
How much oil do I put in 1989 xr 250 rear shock thanks
I think you did amazing on this build. To me compared to other dirt bikes I've had, seems more complicated with extra parts all over it. Like the goofy compression release. And it's over built. The airbox compared to a mx bike is so heavy it seems structural. Are you adding a key or battery? I could use guidance how to wire for street use
Yes battery and key. It's down the road a way but I will be posting a video about how to do it and we're to get parts
@@WeekendAdventureRides maybe one day you and I can do the tat on xr250s
What bearing kit did you use for the upper mount? I just Installed an all balls bearing and it will not fit in the frame
Pivot works. The bearings are slightly different for the top and bottom. Also the sleeves are shorter on one side. May have then switched?
@@WeekendAdventureRides I think I figured it out, looks like I’ve probably used a swing arm linkage bearing instead of the correct one
Can I fix the front and rear shock absorbers of the Baja 250SS at home knowing that I tried a lot but I didn't succeed in it
Yes they are rebuildable.
I’ve got an old 89, with what looks like a similar set up. Mine calls for nitrogen not air, did yours and you just used air instead? Trying to do all this myself and not pay a shop to do it. It being so old it’s fun rebuilding but I am trying to save money where I can and shops cost a lot lol.
I used nitrogen. It's not expensive to have filled.
@@WeekendAdventureRides when are you going to drop the next in the series? I’m using your knowledge to build mine up, curious to see what you do with the exhaust.
Did you not replace the bottom cap/cover of the reservoir?
I did not. I may end up replacing the whole reservoir as my adjustment knob is broken.
@@WeekendAdventureRides Thanks. Great videos! They have been incredibly helpful in my own xr restoration.
Where did you buy tha bladder i cant find it for my 91 xr250l
Thr one I had was in good condition so I reused it. I would check ebay, xrsonly and oem distributors.
How much oil do you put in a xr250 1989 rear shock?
You want it completely full, no air at all.
Anyone know if they sell different valves for heavier riders 230lbs
I havent been able to find any.
how many fluid you put inside?
Completely full no air
@@WeekendAdventureRides if that was your full bleeding procedure (I’m hoping it wasn’t) there’s 100% air in that shock. You need to actuate the shock shaft to bleed the shim stack and valve.
@@dirtscoot9530 you are correct. I'll go back and edit that in, generally I shoot for 10-12 pumps with no air coming from the reservoir before I put the bladder in.
@@WeekendAdventureRides ok good!! Haha great video keep it up 👍🏻
How did you get that circlip out so easily….
I bought a pack of picks from harbor freight. It's a solid investment for bike building
@@WeekendAdventureRides I tried the same thing, this thing refuses to come out I’ve just scored the hell out of the thing at this point it won’t budge I’ve just got it to spin a little bit but it’s stuck in there good
Use a pick and a small screw driver. Place the pick on the edge opposite of the opening in the circlip and put pressure toward the opening this should give you enough space to tilt the circlip vertically then just pull it out.
Nitrogen, good.
Explosion.... Bad
Im from Sri Lanka, i want a rebuild kit, where can i find one? Also would it be possible to ship it to Sri Lanka?
Check the XRs only website
And Nitrogen fill out? On my KLR I must charge with nitrogen
Yes
Do you help vets and if so would you be willing to help the vet rebuild the shock?
Where are you located?
hoy many psi of nitro use?
284
@@WeekendAdventureRides 180 psi is the correct amount, even verified with racetech. 284psi is insane!!
@@dirtscoot9530 I checked 2 different service manuals it lists 284 psi
@@WeekendAdventureRides damn, conflicting info. Just seems so high!
Either way, good research 👍🏻 I’ll do some more digging.
@@dirtscoot9530 please do. I'm with you when I initially read it in the honda service manual I thought it was crazy but the Clymer says the same thing.
Do u help disabled vets
Id be more than happy to.
