I'm soon-to-be 78 yrs old. I've loved this song since it's release in '66. I first heard the 1962 Ketty Lester version, which is also done. I've spent 68 yrs trying to figure out why Elvis' ballad singing seems SO personal??? Millions & millions of people have said, "It's like he's singing just to me!" Recently, I've concluded it's because of the soft tone & texture of his voice (of course)...PLUS one secret ingredient: his soft, subtle, right-next-to-your-ear, rapid vibrato. Whatever the technique was, it's beyond question it was that PERSONAL connection his music had with Earthings which made him mankind's biggest cultural star.
You're absolutely right, Eric. This song is pure romance, and Elvis's voice is velvet: something a woman would like to hear at least once in her life. I know another version of it, but this one is really touchy. Thank you so much, Eric: you're always the best. Long live the King! TCB⚡
Hi Eric well your not the first one who hasn't heard this song for the first time it's my first time hearing this beautiful song too. I really love it and love how he's singing this😊
Oh that song is so beautiful! I know that so for such a long time, that i can't even remember the first time. But it was love at first hearing. Thank you very much!💚☀️
There was usually a good reason for re-recording a song. Others he re-recorded were Blue suede Shoes - One night- when it rains it really pours - dont leave me now - my wish came true - Black Star - Memphis Tennessee - Ask me - Swing down sweet chariot - it hurts me - let yourself go - you dont know me. so yes pretty rare but there were a few. Dick Haymes sang the original Love Letters but Ketty Lester had the hit on which Elvis' version and arrangement is based on.
Hello everyone, this is a unique song, in that Elvis recorded it in 1966, released as a single a few weeks later. It was later added to a 1968 album... THEN... Elvis remastered it in 1970 to be put on an album in 1971... Whew... Haha... Let me know your thoughts! I have purposely not listened to the 71 version, as that's for tomorrow's video! Thank you all so much! Y'all Keep TCB'ing!
And speaking of Elvis songs that don’t get much attention on UA-cam check out the album, Elvis country. Everybody seems to ignore that album for some reason. Whole Lotta shaking going on that Elvis covered on that album for me, is the very best version of all time of that song No offense to Jerry Lee But Elvis does a fantastic job with that song. Whole Lotta shaking, going on country style, country style rhythm, and blues blended together only Elvis could do it TCB ⚡️
Hi Dave, I really like seeking out obscure Elvis stuff that doesn't get much or any attention YT. I love Whole Lotta Shaking by Elvis, more so than by Jerry Lee. I'm gonna add it for next week! Thanks!
@@TCBEric dirty water That’s on Elvis country Elvis has a great version of that also That’s also a cover of the Johnny Rivers song I wash my hands in muddy water. It’s not dirty water. Muddy water Elvis absolutely kills it man 😻🏎️🏁
Hey Eric! I Love this song 🎶 and had the single and the albums before all my Elvis memories were stolen! So thank you so very much for doing this!! I look forward to seeing your videos pop in my notifications. Btw please continue with your bloopers…it’s really funny!!😆
When one evening you are bored because you have nothing to do, listen to Ketty Lester followed by Elvis doing the song ua-cam.com/video/XuZ35VH08dg/v-deo.html. It is that type of song given the right voice which emotes that warm silky buttered honey. There's also a video of Lester backed up by The Blossoms ('64?) who backed up Elvis in '68 (that included the great Darlene Love). So much involved in the Elvis world that I don't think we'll be on earth long enough to know it all.
@@TCBEricI agree to an extent but I have every official song released by Elvis and a fair few on other bits and bobs which is enough to be going on with 👑👍🙂
How can you be an Elvis Presley fan and not heard this song😂😂😂(sorry).I'm surprised RCA didn't just chuck the original on the Love Letters album to save money.I love both versions.👍🙂👑
Haha! Thanks! I'm not sure why it was remastered, maybe Elvis wanted to re-record it? I'm not sure, but you are right, they were all about saving money!
Wonderful video Eric thank you for doing some background research on this Seems like to me a woman recorded this song sometime in the early 60s I don’t recall her name but seems like to me I can remember hearing the song recorded by a woman and then Elvis covered the song because it was so popular I enjoy every version of this song that Elvis says done. And you’re right, his voice really does sound smooth and wonderful in this song. For some reason, this song has never gotten very much attention on UA-cam As a matter of fact, I don’t know of any other UA-cam post that is ever featured this particular song Once again thanks for the wonderful video TCB ⚡️⚡️🏎️🏁

Thanks Dave! I really appreciate it! I intended on this one coming out yesterday, but I fell asleep last night while it was uploading... Haha so lunch today it was! I don't know why this song isn't done more often on YT, it's a great slow song! His voice and that bass line, perfecto!
How could ANYONE know all 15,000 Elvis songs, Even I who have been listening since 1954 have gotten surprised a time or 2. So I am familiar w-this one & sure it's beautiful. I do have to make a side comment here tho' about his early-mid 60's hair -- horrible. Didn't even like it back then on the big screen. Thanks.
I loved his hair when he 1st came home in 1960. Then when they started styling his hair in that helmet hairstyle and that hairdo with the little curl down the center of his forehead...Ugh! Not my cup of tea.
@@nycsue I agree about the little curl thing but I always liked longer hair on men. I love his hair in Vegas '69 -- very unusual, you'll only see it that way in '69; I love it when he went to see Nixon; & in '72 (Hampton Roads & Greensboro, NC); I actually also prefer his hair in the Hawaii rehearsal concert better than the live version.
@@carolhayar3037 I loved his hair in 68 and 69. In 1970 his hair still looked good. However, for me he started to let his sideburns cover his face after that. I love his face and it shouldn't be covered. That's just my opinion ☺
@@nycsue I agree about the sideburns thing -- it was a bit much. I like '68 when his hair got a bit messy from bouncing around but not slicked back, too styled & stiff. Parker complained (to someone, maybe it was to producer Steve Binder) that "his hair is getting messed up." Besides '72, I like '74 & '75. I guess the bottom line for me is long & more casual than stiff.
