Kevin is not only a great actor, he is also a great storyteller.
Of course, good directors are always good storytellers.
He's an embarrassing actor, what's wrong with you?
It’s good to see Kevin in good spirits there and being kind. Over the last few things he’s done you forget he’s not some old salty bastard that will bite your head off haha
I heard That!
He does a pretty good Lancaster impression.
RIP Burt Lancaster (November 2, 1913 - October 20, 1994), aged 80
RIP Sir Sean Connery (August 25, 1930 - October 31, 2020), aged 90
RIP Ray Liotta (December 18, 1954 - May 26, 2022), aged 67
You will be remembered as legends.
Agree but Connery off screen was scum!
@@stefanosoderi4152 Oh, did you meet him? If so, what happened?
@@Cruithneach oh did you never see his comments on Barbra Walter’s yrs ago? Or maybe you live under a rock? Let me know how you enjoy his words .and his views on woman.
@@stefanosoderi4152 You don't seem to be familiar with the background to the story, which is a pity. Interestingly, you didn't make reference to *that* story of Burt Lancaster, which makes me suspicious. Not to worry, though, good luck in your future endeavours
@@Cruithneach I answered your question about his behavior, you had no idea he said those things, the comment was about Connery not Lancaster , do your research before running your mouth
I absolutely _love_ that Connery made the effort to make sure he was right _before_ ripping into somebody he _perceived_ had wronged him.
As for Lancaster, what magnificent humility it demonstrates that he kept asking, "You saw that?"
Burt Lancaster told my father a story about a guy who wanted an autograph from him once. He was eating dinner in a restaurant in LA and some guy comes up to him while hes putting his fork to his mouth and grabbed his hand to stop him from putting the food in his mouth to ask for his autograph. Burt told him to basically F off and the guy left him and went back to his table. When Burt had finished his meal and he was leaving he went over to the guy and told him, "Look I appreciate that you are a fan, but you were very rude". He gave him an autograph and left. He was a classy guy.
And hats off to Rich Eisen who knows how to ask a question and give the guest plenty of time to fully answer without having to hear his own voice. It's a rare talent.
This, thank you
Hmmm... was Rich even paying attention? He struck me as rude; preoccupied in rearranging his desk junk
Amen!
Howard Stern should take lessons.
If he’d drop the Jimmy Fallon fake laugh he might be good as an interviewer.
People who have said actors are not to bright never listened to Costner. Notice the PERFECT set up at the end... "You saw that?" ... killed it.
Burt Lancaster is one of my new favorite actors , incredible.
You're indeed my well dedicated fan and I must say a big thanks to you in appreciation for your fanatism and zealotry towards my movies and film productions... I now recognise you as my favourite fan out there.
Kevin Costner is one of the most under rated actors and such a genuine nice guy
Can’t do a good Connery impersonation...so...not that good.
He one of the most sought after , highest paid leading men in the business, he's been in many very successful movies, everyone in the country knows his name , he's won award after award...Just how is he underrated ????
@@tommyhaynes9157 I think quite a lot of people class him as wooden or of very limited range. I agree with you and always have held him in high esteem, however, because he acts like a normal person in his films rather than an actor playing a role, people think he is being boring or uninteresting, forgetting that this is in fact how most of real life actually is.
Yeh, the Rolling Stones were such an underrated band too.....moron.
Once again someone overusing and misusing the word “underrated”. It’s like that word and “literally” are issued with your account and you’re told the wrong meanings and you have to use at least one in every comment.
One of the very few actors who can carry a film all by himself, he has incredible screen presence
A real man
Sean Connery was THE MAN! What a Human Being! There will NEVER be another actor like Sean Connery! ONE OF A KIND!
Costner is a great story teller,I loved how he did the voices ,😝
He did a great story at Whitney Houston funeral service it was really nice
@@coryburns9161 , thank you for reminding me.
I loved the Bodyguard and him speaking at Whitney’s memorial was so heartfelt and beautiful.
No Way Out is an unforgettable movie. I have watched it again and again over the years. One of the few surprise endings that I will never forget. Actually, two surprise endings. I will never forget you Kevin Costner.
Great movie
What a great interview. For him to share those few memories of two legendary actors was a real treat. I was smiling ear to ear.
Kevin Costner is one of the absolute best actors in history!
the untouchables even to this day is one of the best written scripts i have ever heard... an absolutely fantastic film.
It is honestly such a huge overrated movie. I really wanted to like it but found it terrible. Hated the cheesy music as well.
NY Mets classic. Cheesy? Eh?
I love that "Baseball" scene with De Niro.
Except for all the blatant historical inaccuracies it was a fun movie. De Niro was miscast tho. Capone was in his late 20s early 30s.
@@itistime467 Cheesy? An Ennio Morricone score, one of the greatest composers that ever lived, cheesy? Dude, whatever.
What a little gem of an interview that was, I like Costner, he is always honest and tell it like it is. Kevin Costner is a proper movie star, we dont really have many
Well said and well put ! :-)
His impressions are great i can see Burt Lancaster actually telling those stories
Rest in peace great Sean Connery.
Absolutely
Burt Lancaster in “The Train” could be one of best movies ever made. To expensive to make now, Burt’s talents could not be matched. It’s a crime, it’s never seen. Unbelievable!
I watched that movie some time ago...I liked it - but (since Lancaster's character, Labiche, was French) I would have preferred him to have a French accent...Scofield at least had a slight German accent...with this said, even for any inconvenience of having to read subtitles (for English translation), I feel that (e.g.) German characters speaking in German can contribute to the realism...Lancaster's acting was excellent, but his American/non-French accent was a distraction for me...
What an amazing film
I love hearing actors impersonate other actors. Great job Kevin!
He’s a great actor but I really enjoy him in person just being himself.
Great? you're nuts
@@walkergillette3918 your one of those aren't you
Wow, I just watched The Train with Burt Lancaster yesterday. again. what a great film!
yes it is, sadly I don't think it's that well known, another one is Seven Days in May.
Good stories from Costner and especially pleasing to hear him speak of Sean and Burt with such respect.
What a gentleman Kevin! Your stories were charming and warm, about two fabulous actors. Thank you.
RIP Sean Connery
Kostner has a great voice. I love the humbling experience of being asked to get Sean’s autograph 😂😂😂
At least we still have this Great Actor Sharing these Memories with these 2 Older Actors who are Sadly No Longer with us now! Kevin Costner you are a Legend!
Burt Lancaster is my favourite actor of all time, it's good to hear him mentioned here....
barrygioportmorien1 he was an amazing actor!!
Berry , Burt was my favorite too he was a incredible actor no matter in what movie !
I totally agree... love him in "The Train"...
@@grantmcgowan8399 great film. Very underrated
A genuine Hollywood great!!
A proper actor who didn’t seek the limelight
Rip both Sir Sean Connery 1930-2020 and Burt Lancaster 1913-1994
Wow, he’s got Burt lancaster’s flow and all that down. The way he talks I mean.
In 1990 Kevin Costner was offered the lead in a film that needed a big star to get the studio financing, but Costner turned it down because he had been working three years straight and needed a break. Costner's wife, Cindy Silva, read the script and realized its importance and told her husband, "This film has to be made." The film was JFK by Oliver Stone. Thank you, Cindy Silva.
He famously divorced her, btw. After he got famous for a few years.
The Train with Burt Lancaster, watching him work in that movie is just magic.
He did all his own stunt work.
Holysh**t what a great interview. How many of you want to see the Kentuckian now lol??
Yes, I have to find it!!!
I've seen it. It's o.k. Not what you think it is. It's a pre-western. Slow and character driven. More of a period piece.
@@jackasswhiskyandpintobeans9344 Like Open Range. Slow developing, great character driven western.
Kevin seems to be a very grounded person. I had the pleasure of meeting him at a fraternity event back in 1990 or 1991, man I am getting old. He took the time to mingle with a bunch of "star struck" college kids, and he didn't have to but wanted to. A really nice man.
I wondered if I had gone to the drama club party instead of the ski club party that night at UCF...…. oh well, what would I have done with $80 million Cindy got...…. except help our veterans and our elderly. Dances and Dreams the best. Dances filmed at my late half-aunt and uncle's poor reservation. Six-degrees is a strange venue. Even sitting next to someone in Visalia college class who was in Kevin's class.... Kevin had a good childhood, so he was blessed with that.
Costner was a fraternity boy ...LMAO. Did he tie his sweaters around his neck too?
I think this guy is one of the most underrated of Hollywood A listers.
how is Costner underrated? the guy's the legend
That is a ridiculous statement. Dislke. R u kevin Costner?
...... he's "A-List" .. "didnt know that"
He lacks range so he’s good in films that fit his character. He was great in Mr. Brooks because it fits him.
Dance with Wolves great movie he starred in and also directed it. Respect to Burt and Sir Connery
It’s a remarkable film for a directorial debut. Just for that the guy is legendary.
One of the best movies ever made👍
Dude was a monster in the 1980s. The thing was, he didn't come across as being bigger than life. He was a guy you might have grown up with and remained friends with the rest of your life.
The kind of freind you hang out with and no woman is ever interested in you when you're together
he was everyman, like Jimmy Stewart.
"Silverado" was his coming-out party. I think it was Scott Glenn or Kevin Kline who said he was like everyone's kid brother, riding and shooting so naturally it was uncanny. All the old-school wranglers and stuntmen just loved him.
I love that Costner isn't one of those pretentious actors who doesn't like to talk about their own films. He has cool stories and likes to tell them. I've never seen him not be excited to talk about one of his movies with anybody. Cool guy...
Mile High Jedi - Agreed. He is a wonderful story teller!
I agree. I think it’s ridiculous when some actors try to be “ethereal” and say “I don’t watch my movies”, or “I don’t watch dailies”, like Jonny Depp.
COSTNER IS A PRICK THAT THINKS HES BETTER THAN EVERYBODY ELSE,WHEN HE WAS SHOOTING FIELD OF DREAMS HE USED TO PROMISE THE LITTLE GIRL THAT PLAYED HIS DAUGHTER CANDY IF SHE WORKED HARD AND GOT HER SCENES RIGHT SO SHE DID AND HE WOULDNT GIVE HER THE CANDY AND HE WOULD LAUGH AT HER WHEN SHE ASKED FOR THE CANDY SEVERAL PEOPLE THAT PLAYED IN THAT MOVIE SAID THAT HE DID THAT.
So great to see this so unexpectedly. Awesome.
Played golf with him by pure accident. Level headed and a wear of his financial position and ability to have far more then most. He was beyond pleasant and sociable. Played a $1 a hole and in the end he asked if i had time for a burger and a beer. This was a mom and pop 9 hole course in CT. We sat and ate while others sat and took part in the funny jokes being told by everyone. He shook everyone's hand in the end and that was that. Good guy in my book. He spoke with great pride in his family and shared plenty of stories with a smile and a chuckle while doing so.
Costner and Hanks just tell the best stories. Could listen to them for hours.
Kevin and Sean To of my favourite actors / Hero's ❤️
I usually hate celebrity interviews but Rich knows how to do them.
Love Costner!!! Old school movie star quality. Great stories to tell too.
I’ve always admired Costner. Long list of fine movies. He could’ve retired on Dances with Wolves, alone. But I admire Lancaster even more! Played every type of role, never fell into that typecasting trap. And his diction was perfect! Don’t underestimate good diction; too many actors mumble, an affectation popularized by Brando and James Dean. (Interestingly, Lancaster was also a big opera buff. He wanted to make a movie with the late opera star, Beverly Sills. She said she was too old to appear on film. Lancaster said, “Don’t be ridiculous, we’ll film you through gauze. Sills replied, “You’d have to film me through linoleum before I’d ever make movie!”)
Kevin went to my high school. Villa Park High, Villa Park, CA. I think he was class of '74. I was '77 so he was already over at Cal State Fullerton. But my best friend who was class of '75 remembers him as just another skinny kid on campus among so many others. Yeah, he's a good, down to earth sort I think. Time mellows us all out. Go Spartans!
Always wondered what it was like for him to work with Burt Lancaster. Thank you.
Great hearing Kevin talk about Burt Lancaster. "Valdez is coming" remains one of my favorite movies ever.
Yes. And Ulzana's Raid, The Lawman, The Professionals...Burt could turn in a great western too. Not bad for a guy from the mean streets of NYC.
Sean, Burt, Kirk, Walter...and Kevin Costner ALL legends !
I would love to hear him talk about working with Gene Hackman on "No Way Out". Great movie, very under rated
2it.I guess you could say there was "NO WAY OUT" of talking to gene hackman. Hahahhahahah amirite? Guys? Amirite ha ha yeah. Im good i knkws
john smith Kevin Costner and Sean Connery also worked together on Wyatt Earp. Well cast movie but way too long. However, not without intriguing value but it had the misfortune to be released not long after Tombstone, pretty much the same story. Sorry, that was meant to have been Kevin Costner and Gene Hackman also worked together on Wyatt Earp.
He actually did talk about Gene Hackman in this podcast
Kevin Costner...You are a great actor and producer..Yellowstone is a Great show.Thank you for making it.
I really loved him as that lawyer guy, in breaking bad. Great actor
I'm here all day for Kevin Costner stories.
makes me cry that movie was amazing these guys who are no longer here make me happy in sad times......thanks
That train station scene in untouchables is top 10 all time
Kevin you would be my favorite actor. . . except that I LOVED Sean Connery when I was just a girl, and I still do. He will be missed. God bless you both.
Kevin and Sean are my idols . It would be the best to meet Kevin once before I go meet Sean . God bless you
Those scenes with M Lancaster were very affecting. He was a fabulous screen presence. My dad loved that film being a dog man and respecting the free spirited nature of the character. Mr Costner made great Westerns too. In fact he is very good in No way out with Gene Hackman as well.
I remember watching the kentuckian as a kid in the 70s......ive never forgotten that scene with the whip....amazing........
people forget now just how massive a star costner was at one time. very late 80s to 94 ish he was in massive films that all grossed 200 mills plus. untouchables, feild of dreams, dances with wolfs, robin hood, JFK, the body gard were his peak years. great run of films to have been in.
Right! Dances with Wolves...my fave of all time
i'd say up to 96. Tin Cup
YES but think as Fans He actually got to work with people he grew up watching and become friends or gain the respect and pass the torch to him. At the end of his life he can say he worked with this actor or this actor.
@Phil Jones65 He was in Mr Brooks in 2007-ish.... Awesome movie about him being a serial killer.... Oh and Open Range.... An awesome western.
I don't forget..
I think films were generally better before the last decade and it hurts noone to learn about things created before they were born.
Mathew was a bad ass police chief with Douglas in Lonely the Brave. And Lancaster in the crimson Pirate is one of my favourites.
not really a bad ass, but acted wonderfully understated. L are the B is Kirk's fav of all he made. Pirate great fun. his circus buddy and life long friend Nick C a crack up in it.
Costner is my favorite actor and one of my favorite interviewees. Because he's SO GOOD he's worked with all the greatest actors and has such wonderful behind the scenes stories. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Costner seems a really down to earth nice man. Great stories.
This was a fantastic interview, love to hear about those guys
Burt Lancaster was one of a kind. They broke the mold when they made that guy.
That is some of the coolest stories I've ever heard .
To see LANCASTER in ELMER GANTRY..is simply mesmerizing...just BRILLIANT...and soooo deserved the ACADEMY AWARD......l can still see him...running down the platform in the revival tent!!..so exciting
Costner seems to be a very genuine and spontaneous person
What a great privilege to be able to experience two of the greats!🍻🍻🍻
Watching this in Lock down here in the UK. Great movie.
I saw that scene where Matthau was beating Lancaster with a whip. It was brutal.
Kevin was lucky to work with 2 GREATS : SEAN CONNERY in THE UNTOUCHABLES AND BURT LANCASTER in FIELD OF DREAMS. 😉😃😁😎 BUT I REALLY ENJOYED HIM in DANCES WITH WOLFS, the Indian actors were VERY GOOD. I ESPECIALLY LOVED the ending when the one Indian actor YELLS OUT "YOU WILL ALWAYS BE MY FRIEND ". That was HEARTBREAKING FOR ME.😉😃😁😎
Wonderful interview ! Thanks so much for sharing with us ! You've MADE my day, my week & my weekend ! :-)

What a nice guy and a great story teller.
Mr Costner has worked with the greatest and is one of the greatest. He and Rob Duval were amazing. I believe there's yet to be another epic movie, filmed the traditional way (no cgi) from Mr Costner.
I loved that scene Kevin was describing about Walter , the whip , the wagon wheel and Burt. Kevin was wonderful in " For the Love of the Game " and his darkest role , " Mr. Brooks ".
that scene in The Kentuckian got me to run the 440 in track. nobody moved like Burt.
What was your time in the 400?
@@jasonvelisaratos868 at the start of the 9th grade 86 sec, i went out for track and was changed from the 100 to the 880 (???). by the end of the year i ran the 440 in 59 sec. PE and track after school. 80 sit ups in one min, and jumped rope 30 times in 10 sec. by my senior year, 49 seconds for the quarter, and that was after getting the flue over Christmas and losing 20 lbs off my normal 145. check out The Kentuckian. Burt and his buddy Nick Cravatt (who was in many of Burt's movies and never spoke) barnstormed the US with the circus during the 30's. the Crimson Pirate is great fun too with both.
Sean Connery who stayed true to his roots and never changed his accent
i rewatched waterworld last weekend. i love it. always have. its still a very fun and excellent movie
New to the channel as from the uk but love his connection to his guests and the respect they have from him. 🙃
I like Kevin and his conversation shows a lot about how he is like the two stars he's talking about. A down to earth guy. That's why I liked Lancaster and Douglas, too. I have Kirk's life story. I've met people from New York who knew him as a kid selling rags with his dad down NY city streets. He came up from the bottom. What a guy, what a talent. Go see Dick Cavett's interview. You'll be impressed.
Wow. His Sean Connery impersonation is amazing.
i'm really not a huge fan of kevin costner's films...but the guy has definitely accomplished a ton in his life and deserves credit. Also for his age...holy crap he is in great shape
Field of dreams Legendary..
Burt Lancaster was one of my favorite actors he was very unique and also very handsome when he was a bit younger !
Burt was an incredible actor, a true legend. From 1947's, The Killers thru Field of Dreams in 1987, he gave us varied, memorable performances. He wasn't afraid to take on off beat roles either, Sweet Smell of Success, The Swimmer, Castle Keep...His last great lead role was in Atlantic City with Susan Sarandon, in 1981. He's an all time favorite of mine too.

"You saw that?" Yes. Absolutely.
Lancaster and Douglas in Tough Guys (1986). What a fun movie. Seven Days in May was outstanding.
Kevin Cosner does excellent voice impersonations,Like him even more now
i know! ha...too bad he couldnt do a basic british accent as Robin Hood though;)
@@jessu.6414 I read somewhere that he did virtually the whole movie with an English accent but it didn't test well so they re-shot his scenes. No idea if it's true or not but it was very strange that that he did his normal accent.
His Connery was iffy
Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves: I also read that rumour has it that Kevin Costner wanted to use an English accent, but Director Kevin Reynolds didn’t want him to. Supposedly Costner would affect the accent when he was arguing with Reynolds, but not when they were in agreement. Costner claimed that he was initially asked to use an accent, but this was stopped when he did it poorly.
I love his story about the screenplay for Dances with Wolves.
Surprise ! This the first interview I see with non acting Costner and now I see what hell of an actor he is, scary !
Fascinating interview. If anyone hasn't seen "Mr.Brooks" I highly recommend it.
