Hi Kristen, so funny, I literally just re-painted my kitchen because I was so tired of a faux finish I did years ago. It was looking so outdated and I can’t afford a renovation. Gave the white cabinets a good cleaning, painted the walls Navajo White by BM, added some new curtains and decor, now even the outdated granite looks better. Now I smile when I’m having my morning coffee ☕️ because it’s looks So fresh and light. Great video tips as always. Can’t wait to see your DIY kitchen makeover! 💕Dee
I got so many great ideas from this video. BTW, I think you and Christian are such an adorable couple. And I can't wait to see how you decorate your new home for Christmas.
So many great ideas & suggestions!! We are having a “detached condo” built in a 55+ community, and I am going to go over the kitchen plans, to be sure there aren’t too many eye sore outlets.
I painted my orange country style cabinets with a light neutral and it’s the first time I haven’t walked into the kitchen and cringed at them. I painted the kick plate black to elevate the cabinets and make the kitchen look larger. The cabinets no longer match the orange floors and I painted all the orange TnG and yellowy cream walls in the dining and lounge rooms white and it’s a huge awesome difference. I changed out the knobs for handles and it’s easier on my hands.
I'm going to play with the idea of removing one cabinet door for decorating. or perhaps the one above my coffee area to expose the "coffee bar experience" and see how that looks. If I don't like it, *bam*! Door goes back on. Genius!!
Love the video- as aways! Kristen I am wondering if you would consider doing this kind of video with pictures of average kitchens, not all high end ones. For example when you were talking about painting, you had a picture of a typical kitchen with too many spices on a shelf. That would be ideal to show what a before and after in that average kitchen. I am always inspired by your videos, but today I found i was wishing for less high end kitchen's as examples and more standard kitchens. (I love my kitchen but is is older and in a 50 year old cape Cod). Thanks!
You do not have to swap out your hinges to get soft close doors. They make adapters that fit on your own hinges that turns them into soft close. I’ve put them on all my cabinet doors, you literally just snap them onto your hinge.
Great video!! I'd love to leave food out as decor, but a friend recently had a mouse eat her bread and caramel candy that was on an open third shelf and now I'm traumatized!!🤣 She'd never had that problem in 15 years (she keeps an immaculate house), but it turned me off. I will however get the food containers you showcased and gift her a set too!! Thanks Kristen!!
I would love to do that display idea on the end panel of my refrigerator. I’m not sure if I can match the stain of my cabinets and also I would like to find a way to attach it so I could remove it later if I wanted to. You gave me something to think about! Thanks for all the tips.
Before this video ended, I called my contractorr to tell him, we need to lower the height of the outlets in the kitchen. 😄 Perfectly timed video for me, as they’re redoing the electrical work today in the apartment we’re renovating. Thanks!
I couldn't agree with you more! Kristen is a beautiful and gifted young lady who has chosen to share her gift and talent with the world, and I, for one, am so grateful. She has taught me so much over the years!! Kristen, always remember people who are negative and discourage others are often broken inside and suffer from a deep pain they may or may not know about. I'm not excusing their behavior, but this is an opportunity for you to take that negative energy and turn it into positive power that will catapult you to newer heights and even greater rewards. Keep your eyes on Jesus, and He will carry you so high that nothing anyone does or says can touch you. You are amazing and incredibly talented!❤
Hi Kristen - what are your thoughts on buffet lamps? My decor tastes are very much like yours. I'm looking to decorate my dining room by putting the lamps on the buffet. Big piece of art in the middle. Thanks so much!
Thank you! I always get great ideas from your videos! Question: Are the handles on your office cabinets at the bottom of the doors? It’s visually throwing me off so I thought I’d just ask.
I never considered a cake stand or multiple fruit bowels in my kitchen but I love how it doubles as a design element and also maybe it can encourage me to actually eat healthier snacks! lol
Ciao buying at once a lot of jars conteiners baskets expensive so meanvile i use glass jars bottles from pickles etc. until slowly i buy what i need. Might be helpful.
All my kitchen outlets are hidden (I’m in a small apartment). The two on the walls with cutting boards, layered. The one on the stove is obscured with my kettle.
Ohhh I LOVE these ideas, you must have read my mind as I keep looking at my old "farmhouse" style kitchen and want to change it up 🥰 I do have an irrational fear of putting teatowels near sockets..just in case it shorts, I would have had the breadboard over the outlet rather than the teatowel although I realise the wood could be a problem too 😅
Yes, colour seems like the easiest option, and most ideas are great. But I don't really like the idea of having art pieces in my workspace, since it always gets dirty while cooking and it's easier to clean the back splash than an art piece.
I really don't think hiding an outlet is petty. It's easy and it really doesn't take much effort and it does look better IMO. If I didn't want to I wouldn't stress over it, I don't believe anyone coming into my home would say anything. But a very simple step like that goes a long way.
I have a big black induction cooktop on my island, so the raised bar height around it sort of hides that, but normally an all one counter height looks way better, more modern, makes room look more spacious.
I have wanted to paint my kitchen cabinets for a long time, however; it is very time consuming and difficult to do it correctly so it doesn’t look DIY. Helpful tips on how to do this right (on a budget) would be appreciated. Otherwise it’s just another multiple thousand dollar project to hire a professional.
I'm always concerned about concealing outlets with decor and creating a potential fire hazard. Firefighters would consider this a huge no. But you do you, if you think outlets that are meant to be useful and part of a kitchen look unsightly. In fact, I find it ironic that designers insist that home decor be both pretty and functional, yet encourage their viewers to cover up useful and functional outlets. Just get new outlet covers that are decorative and problem solved!
What do you think about the windows in kitchens do you recommend any blinds/ shutters or sheer curtains? I currently have blinds and I always have them raised as I like the natural sunshine to come in but at night I pull them down for privacy as people can see me washing up in in the pjs at night 😂
Okay this is just not the right tone to take with people. Why should we make our kitchens look expensive? Why shouldn't kitchens look homey, uncurated and chef friendly? I think you meant to say 10 affordable ways to make your kitchen more efficient, more friendly and more loving,
Yeah, I’m forgiving on these types of UA-cam titles I wish some one will start a new trend using a new “phrase” look cozy is my preference. It’s the same seeing people using the term “master bedroom” like don’t you know the industry changed the term to “primary bedroom”
Have we become that petty that seeing an outlet in the kitchen is offensive. Talk about first world problems. Let’s just stop for a moment and think how grateful we are to have a roof over your head and a refrigerator full of food and stop focusing on stupidity such as trying to hide an outlet. Come on people wake up and be real.
@ please explain to me how hiding an outlet makes your kitchen look expensive. And no, I didn’t come here to be rude and I don’t believe I was rude. I was just making a point and putting things into perspective.
@@chelseasummers2365 We are greatfull to have a roof over our heads. We also want to make are homes as cosy as can be as its our little nest and makes us happy ❤
LOL, I find the whole outlet concealing concept ridiculous. There are decorative outlet covers that are not only appealing to the eye, but also a lot safer. I have never once walked into someone's kitchen and said, "You really should cover up those outlets".
Totally agree. There's always plenty to do in the kitchen without shifting things around to find the outlets! Also I can't imagine hanging art directly above a cooking surface. It would need so much cleaning and possibly get damaged. 😱
@@AM10WA Maybe just don't stick it above the stove or sink. If you look at the thumbnail the picture is placed in the corner with a tray in front of it so it's not in a splash zone.
I think you're a hater. I keep my cutting board and fruit bowls in front of my outlets and it takes about 1 second to lie the cutting board down to use. She literally spoke on displaying your home cooked treats as decor and you're claiming non of these are realistic. I appreciated all of these! Great video.

Same here. Tiny kitchen in my apt, with uncomfortable sharp handles. Switched out to rounded stylish ones for $4/each. Much better!

Try Benjamin Moore or Sherwin Williams. They have such options.
