    I teach my students to tap the t before the y in the tens. That way it sounds like an unstressed d sound. This is much more common in standard American accents as well as relaxed speech. It also helps them differentiate the sound themselves.

    Thank you so much for the pronunciation videos. I have a lot of trouble with distinguishing between 30 and 0. I often mishear 30 for 40. I think because 'th' and 'f' are so similar.

    I'd a question.
    I heard "dy" & "ny" sounds in some place.
    such as twen"ny" . thir"dy". four"dy"........nine"ny"
    is it effect on accent or what??
    maybe it's easy to distinguish between thirteen and thirty

  • @Wagamamimama
    @Wagamamimama 12 років тому +2

    Hmm, this is confusing. The 'teens' are explained well but your spelling of the thirty-fourty is wrong and you should say that the first part of thirty should be emphasized i.e. THIRty. I'm confused with the association of tea? it's not so clear to me.

    Good attempt of teaching pronunciation, however I have some comments, you're misleading students where to stress the words. Thirty is stressed on the first syllable and not on the second; only the -teens are stressed on the second. Also, the way you write the words on the board is not coherent. First you should write the word and mark the stress with the convention, by adding a square to the stressed syllable placed above the vowel.

    I've lived in England for ages and I've never heard anyone say thirTY, but THIRty. Same goes to FOURty and fourTEEN, FIFty (not fifTY) etc. And your mother is English? Hasn't she tought you how to pronounce the numbers? This is awful. I'm going to unsubscribe NOW.
