In today's video, I discuss Martin Damm Jr’s serve which I believe can be one of the best in the world. He could become the newest member of the ATP 1000 club (players with 1000 aces in a single season).

Who is your favorite male server of all time?
Do u prefer his serve or Ben Sheltons serve?
@@nevin5399 Shelton serve seems faster to me. I have not seen Damm play enough to make a judgement. Technique is very clean tho, height and lefty makes it challenging to return
Johnny Mac
Pete Sampras by far the best server in my opinion. His second serve was not only one of the fastest on tour on average but he was extremely accurate and I loved how he had the same toss placement for all serves.
Nikola Aracic
Interesting. A name to follow. My favorite server is, by far, Sampras. I recognize Ivanisevic was amazing in terms of aces, but the level of precision Sampras had with the serve was out of this world.
I 100 percent agree. He could ace you on second serve as well. The most important for me is he did it in high pressure situations that hardly anybody else felt.
I bet he could hit an egg in two tries.
@@info781 Good bet!
Excellent video analysis of his awesome serve Nik! His rise to the main tour may be by mid year. Another under the radar player who I feel had one of the top lefty serves of his time was the big Aussie Wayne Arthurs, who I saw play at the 2001 AO, it was fast and nasty! It was a beautiful service motion also. Excellent content coach . 👍 👏
Thank you Jose. Many former players mention W Arthur’s serve as one of the best ever.
Totally agree Coach with the assessment that I didn't think tall players could even win Grand Slams, but Del Potro and Cilic, and now Zverev and Medvedev have changed this notion.
Thanks you very much.
Great video analysis and forecast of the future hero!
It is such a benefit to have your analysis and commentary. I’ve shown my kids this video (both will be tall and one is a lefty). You should be a TV tennis analyst, you bring excitement and context to the dull world of stats.
🙏
Nice video it is also true that karlovic had nice slice and forehand
I saw him last year at a challenger in Bratislava, he lost the semifinal against Gabriel Diallo, a young Canadian player who went on to win the title. Damm was serving absolute bombs and he beat Cressy at that event.
I think the problem with extremely tall guys (2m +) in the modern game is that even though they may still play a baseline power game and move very well, they maybe more prone to injury than those around 1.9m. I read somewhere that Kevin Anderson was taught by his dad to develop his groundstrokes and win from baseline. Despite his weight, he is a big serving baseliner. But he did get more injuries than other top 10 guys of his time.
That’s very true. Tall guys get injured more
Ivo Karlovic is my pick for the best server. I watched many of his matches and boy was he able to keep top players away from any break points😮
Ivo is officially retired now. An awseome player and a loveable character❤
He retired today, great career 🙌🙌
Let see the landing on the major tour vs Zhang..good test!
He won 🔥
I remember Martin Damm the dad during the Jim Courier days
Laver at 5’8” had a winning record vs Pancho Gonzalez at 6’2” during their rivalry.
That’s why we love the game, who can find a way to win today.
Right on
Reminds me of Gilles Müller’s serve
or Wayne Arthurs
Many years ago I see a tall austrian player that had a monster serve, one of the biggest I've seen in my life, but unfortunately he retired before reaching the atp level tour...Moser was his name
Frank ? He was German tho
@@IntuitiveTennis maybe Nikolaus...many years ...I found him searching for a player I remember he faced
there is a german player , who made 50 aces in best of 3 match . but it was a future.
Martins serve reminds me Wayne Arthurs
Why didnt u talk about Karlovics Retirement Nick?? Thanks for posting this video, looking forwards to this guy.... and you completly right about the Serve Bots, if Tennis was only about serves these guys would have been #1 in tge workd which means these guys are also pretty solid on the rest 👍
He retired after I made this vid. Dr ivo 🙌
Foot faulted in that video.
Wrong!
@@livingtribunal4110 clearly did
Watched this guy play against o’connel in Miami , his behaviour on court and lack of sportsmanship was an utter disgrace. This kid has so much growing up to do. If you don’t know what I’m talking about , check out the confrontation at the net in that match. The entitlement and arrogance, for someone who has accomplished nothing on tour is ridiculous, especially against o’connel who is one of the real good guys on tour. Good luck to Damm, hope he can grow up and live up to his potential.
This video came at the same day Karlovic retired. What a coincidence
@IntuitiveTennis Are you drawn to the game of big servers because this aligns with your own game or is there some other reason behind it?
It’s possible. When I used to watch John Isner I would think: I want to play like this
I am by no means an expert. But it seems to me like he releases the ball very early on the ball toss with his right hand. Looks a bit 'unclean' to me. But please correct me if I'm wrong.
Standard release height.
Check
Nasi dr Ivo i Zec! 🎾
🙌💯
Should not be called “the serve” anymore but “a bazooka start” and stats based on % bazooka start aces vs pinpoint serve aces or winners be it either 1st or a 2nd one.
when you said that there's a prestigious club of big servers, I thought you gonna say that it's called: "The ServeBots" 😀
he foot faults wit his front foot moving forward, nice motion thou
It also helps so much when you are 2.03 meters high!!! 😂😂😂
With all do respect, Nico, but upon observation of the list of the 1.000+ club, other than Sampras, only two players have one Grand Slam each, Ivanicevic and Roddick. All the rest have none.
The point is, how important is having that "big serve", when players with solid serves (Lendl, Djokovic, Nadal, etc.), and even relatively weak serves (Connors, Wilander, Rosewall, etc.) have a lot more slams and titles in general?
The best players tend to be the best movers
The best servers tend to be taller and don’t move quite as well
Noted. I am of the belief that tennis is a game first, and sport a very close second.
Combine the highest possible tennis IQ, and creativity, with movement.
clip of Fed playing the dad: ua-cam.com/video/PrZWqzjaWmY/v-deo.html
He foot faulted in that video.
Nope. Clearly didn´t.
Yep. Clearly did.
Your dad foot faulted and fell inside your mom
Clearly did.
It’s too close to tell imo
You should have shown several clips of his serve, as opposed to verbal. And Rosco Tanner had the best motion. It was pure. And he reached 140 mph I believe using traditional equipment (real tennis rackets) as opposed to the giant artificial rackets and string today that are giving the player the power.
Rosco Tanner, Nick Kyrgius,Pete Sampras and Pancho Gonzalez have best serve motions for me.
@@thebigmonstaandy6644 maybe. I do not know anything about Nick. Goran also had that compact motion. There are so many but if you want to categorize as the most compact with least amount of potential errors you have to eliminate the long arch the back toss, high toss. Roscoe had the best then.
@@TimTheMusicMan Goran had small break in trophy motion. young Kyrgius had in general same motion as Tanner. later he started to delelte his arm motion little bit to get higher toss. but in general he has Tanners serve. Same for Mark Rosse
Tower of Tandil
He has nice technique. But he foot faulted, lol.
Haha no one is safe from the strict eye of the YT comment section.
There's no excuse to footfault when you have that much advantage already He'll be boring a hole in his opposition.
Really a good serve...mostly unreadable .
his movement looks super similar to Hurkacz serve to me
Hubi more abbreviated
@@IntuitiveTennis yes correct, if you want another interesting new kid on the block to check with massive serve is Tomasz Barkieta 17y old junior - he hit fastest serve on AO this year faster then all the senior guys and he is not even super tall guy
Well
Nothing special here
Damm, that's dumb tennis, being 6'8 and serving unreturnables with ease.
Martin damm the worst player i have seen ever
