Man this is such a good video. I've watched so many serving vides on YT and none of them have pointed out these critical aspects of the 2nd serve. Thank you so much!

Good point about disguising the serves.

Once again, great video analysis on the different types of serves. Incredible analysis, very fitting for recreational players, the drawings of the lines & body torso going forward/to the side, as well as the ATP logo on the back fence provide a great reference point.
And of course, pros like RF can have the same tosses w/o tipping off the types of serves, as it's mentioned in the video, recreational players should focus on what's being mentioned here.
    👍👍👍🎾🎾🎾👍👍👍👍👍

What a beautiful serve Musetti has! Great analysis too. I just want to add this. Even though on kick serve Musetti does not hit the ball in its highest spot, he still hits ball downward, not upward. Correct thinking is that on kick serve Musetti hits the ball earlier if we look it from racket swing path point of view. He hits the ball on start of the pronation on the kicker, while on the flat serve he hits it in the middle of pronation. Keeping his body sideways, and stopping full uncoil gives correct racket swing path on the kicker. My point, both serves are hit downward. It is massively important to keep forward momentum on the kick serve too. Without it, there is no power.

great. you don't by any chance have Musetti's slice on video - same location etc fot further comparison? i really struggle with slice.

As a beginner tennis player and basketball coach your breakdowns are awesome, it’s important for me to have a concept explained thoroughly to understand how to develop proper habits. You do a phenomenal job at that.
One thing I will say is, 2min tennis is a hilarious name because you absolutely do not only explain for 2 mins (not a bad thing)

Thanks Coach! I’ll tell you where the name comes from. Back in 2014 I created my first website (2MinuteTennis.net). It was a $10/mo subscription where twice per week I uploaded a 2 minute long video (yes, it was actually 2 minutes long) and the website and membership grew rapidly. But, times changed and social media created a place where people put up videos that basically put my original website out of business. My website is for personal stroke and match play analysis for my students all around but I kept the name. Just like Facebook isn’t a “book of face”, 2MinuteTennis isn’t just 2 minutes. Thanks for the support!!!

@@2MinuteTennis do you enjoy making short form content? If you’d like to get back into the 2 min thing your content would do phenomenal on TikTok, tennis content does great on there

Excellent video showing differences between 1st and 2nd serves. The only comment I might add is the 1st serve toss is a little more forward toward the net while the 2nd serve toss is not a far forward as well as to the L as Ryan states. If you toss your 2nd serve far into the court it is very difficult to hit up and to the right. A side view of the server would show the difference in how far they toss toward the net. Vast majority of pros have at least some difference in toss locations between 1st and 2nd serves too. Sampras was one of the few players that tossed nearly to the same location but Sampras' 1st serve toss was more straight up to noon or just a smidge to the right of noon. They studied Sampras' serve and found his 1st serve had a steeper topspin angle than most 1st serves on ATP. Tossing more straight up (more to the L than typical 1st serve toss) allowed Sampras to him a bit upwards of his 1st serves. Another thing to learn from this excellent video is how much the 1st serve was spinning and moving. I play in rec leagues and see so many players and even shorter players trying to hit fast dead flat (no spin) 1st serves. It's physically impossible unless you hit a slow flat ball to get it in the court.

yeah, if we had a side camera angle at the exact time you'd see the difference for the second point he makes about the chest positions which is directly related to the toss Z axis (front/back) position!

I know we cant see it, but i would love to know if he changes his grip at all, or at least rolls his wrist towards his body, making the plane of the racquet off from a straight continental. I see many pros do this but have always wondered if they actaully change their grip or not.

Its not the toss. Its the wrist. Top spin serve is more of a slice instead of flat
