I agree with you Mr. Mayo! I’ve always liked Ringo Starr’s music 🎵 I have all of Ringo CD& Vinyl! Looking forward to Ringo’s new Album Look up! The Single Time on my hands is a great song 🎶 Big Beatles fan & Solo Beatles!
A lot of us collectors are loyalists and completists. It doesn't matter what the reasons are. It's all personal taste, personal likes and dislikes. There are a number of actors/actresses/directors that I revere so much that I try to own everything that has their names on it, even if some items happen to not be what I think of as their best work. That's my choice and it's my money. As for Ringo, I always liked the guy, and he's put out a lot of terrific radio hits over the years, not to mention his work as an actor. I'm happy that he's healthy and still creating and working and putting himself out there. And I'd like to hear his new music. Great video, Joe. You expressed your feelings very well.
Thoughtful discussion, and I generally agree. Over time I've acquired all of John's and George's solo albums and a good chunk of Paul's. With Ringo, I pick and choose. So I've got his first five albums and a couple of later ones. And I will be happy to purchase the upcoming Look Up, since I like Beaucoups of Blues.
Remember, Ringos best work was collaborations with other Beatles , Photograph, It don’t come easy , Six o clock , I’m the greatest ,not so good on his own
Hello Mr Mayo. As you said taste is different and there is no right or wrong here. But I agree with you on this. There are good songs on all albums Ringo have released and some albums are really good. Some of the best: Ringo, Vertical Man, Ringorama, Liverpool 8 and Goodnight Vienna. I have all his records and EPs and will continue to buy whatever is released.
I enjoyed this video and Tone's video as well. I have been feeling this same way myself for awhile now and have decided to stop buying his records. I have felt very badly feeling this way but I bought all his albums in the beginning, especially when he was getting help from the other three writing some of his hits but as the years passed the music just is not something I listen to. Would still love to see him in concert, I enjoy the books he has released and will continue to follow him and cheer on his success. Take care!
Hey. I really enjoyed seeing Ringo in concert. Ill never forget it. Most Ringo albums i only listen to when they 1st come out. I have a few favorites. I dont plan on buying his albums anymore. Ill just stream them.
Great video Joe, i totally agree with you. Ringo is part of the Beatles' History like John Paul and George and so i want to buy and hear every his own album from the first to the newest one exactly like i i've always been doing with the other Beatles' solo releases since i was thirteen. I'm a completist of Beatles official releases and so to buy and enjoy Ringo ' stuff is a natural thing for me. Greetings from Italy
I agree with you. There is more to a Ringo album than just the music - there is Ringo - his character, charm, good natured attitude, etc. “Would you have bought a Ringo album or liked his music if he weren’t in the Beatles?” - I suppose it’s an interesting thing to consider but honestly it’s impossible to answer that question for me because he was in the Beatles.
Mr Mayo i buy Ringo's albums because i like them and i like Ringo Starr!!! Yes he was in The Beatles that's just part of his history! If there was no Beatles then there is no solo without The Beatles then there is no Paul no john no George no Yoko ! I agree with you Mr Mayo Ringo Starr is a very talented musician with or without The Beatles!!! I like all of Ringo's albums!!! Ringo is Ringo a happy go lucky guy!!! He's not a heavy metal rocker he is a Ringo rocker !It don't come easy is the best Solo single of any solo Beatles song because it sounds like a Beatles track!!! RINGO STARR is a great drummer and musician!!! Even Paul McCartney has said Ringo is one of the best ever!!!! Mr.Mayo Thanks for bringing all this good about Ringo Starr!!! His new single Time on my hands is excellent song!!! I love Ringo Starr one of the greatest!!!
Ringo has done some damn good material the past 50 years. I am so looking forward to the new album that I am starting 2025 by going to the Nashville/Ryman shows for the Ringo solo shows! And yes as you know Joe, I also love the Bad Boy album and play it at every August Fest!
Good video Joe. I think we can probably agree that had Ringo not been in the Beatles, he wouldnt have even have been given the opportunity to make so many solo albums. That was a hypothetical argument I made to make a point. And the analogy that you make with Yoko's music is a good one and also true. Of course as fans we are intrigued to discover what each of the Beatles did next so to speak, that is why we stay involved. But, there comes a point, when a same old record, follows a same old record that we are now buying these records either out of loyalty or we are hoping that the next album is going to be a return to form. I dont think matters how or why we listen to any artist, but I do feel there is a lower expectation from fans for Ringo to produce music of quality generally . Like you say 'it's a good Ringo album' , so we make this concession for other artists? I dont mean to be harsh and I really want this new album to be great and if it is, I will fully behind Ringo and the album
Thanks for replying, Tone. I also am not sure that John, Paul or George would have done solo albums if there hadn't been a Beatles! (PS please check your email). Cheers!
I've passed on some of all 4 Beatles solo albums. But I've also bought most of them. I got out of the EP Ringo LP'S for cost. This country LP I am looking forward to.
Hi. It's Eliot Wien. I buy Ringo albums because I collect Beatles and solo Beatle Records. If I didn't collect Beatles, I would have purchased some of Ringo's albums but not all of them. RINGO - YES!, Goodnight Vienna - Yes, Rotogravure - YES, Blast From Your Past - Yes, Time Takes Time - Yes, Vertical Man - Yes. All others probably not.
Good video Joe and I agree with you. I don't think it matters why we listen as long as we enjoy it. All four of these guys were and still are very interesting people.
I agree. A new album by any ex-Beatle is like a letter from an old friend. Of course, I’d be interested to hear what they have to say. That said, Ringo makes fun and sometimes inspired pop/rock (which I’m also interested in) so it’s a win/win.
Great points Joe! I can say here largely what I said on Tone's video. Yes there is a sense of loyalty and duty especially when it comes to our Beatle fandom, but if I don't like something I don't *need* to have it. Ringo's music has been, at least for me, very "same old, same old" for the past 20 years and the obligatory "Peace And Love" gets tiresome, but there are always a couple of standout tracks and he always has some amazing players. That said, I'm really looking forward to hearing "Look Up" and I'm grateful for Ringo being Ringo!! ✌❤✌
like John Lennon said in a Crawdaddy magazine interview from 1974 quote " Ringo is Ringo" He has not written as much as the other three solo Beatles no but for the most part I have enjoyed his records.
I, too, have every Ringo release. I made a "Playlist" with two of my favorite songs from each release. It holds up just fine to anything else from the solo Beatles.
Good video. To be honest you could say that I purchase CDs from all the ex Beatles initially because of the Beatles connection. I certainly enjoyed all four ex Beatles otherwise I wouldn't have kept buying their music. I think some of the recent limited editions are going a bit far and won't be getting those.
Ringo is the most underrated Beatle. How many other artists have had the career or impact he's had? Very few. He makes it look easy, but actually it don't come easy.
Not loyalty buy, people buy his records as Beatles collectors. He was part of the Beatles sound...his drums and vocals. There's something about Ringo's voice that's comforting as well as his personality which comes across on the records. A good performer and comedian too. He's done amazingly well to be a viable touring act from where he was in the 80s nearly down and out and alcoholic...though I wish he'd vary his set-list. John would be proud of him too. I thought it was a dog act by Beatley Tone putting the boot into Ringo the way he did. Some of his later albums are quite good...work he did with the Roundheads and Dave Stewart stand out. Though he's overdone the number of albums. The lack of chart success...after that incredible run in the early 70s...is a bit sad and not deserved but it comes down to radio play...when your cards are marked you're gone. Pretty much agree with you Mayo.
I watched Beatleytone’s video and he’s right, I buy out of loyalty like you do, but also because I genuinely want to hear his stuff. Glad you like Bad Boy, there are great tracks on that, and for me his albums from Vertical Man to Choose Love are among his best.
We all know if ringo wasn’t in the Beatles he wouldn’t have got a record contract but he was in the Beatles and has been making music ever since. I love his music and prefer his back catalogue to both John’s and George’s. Can’t wait for his new country album too.
Actually you are now saying I don’t like Ringo’s music because I’m not open minded. I think music either speaks to you or it doesn’t. I love Oasis but don’t like Liam’s solo work. I enjoy Noel’s solo work.
Hey Joe, Great video!! I still have to watch Beatley Tones video. I really enjoy Ringos albums I started listening to Ringos albums in the 90’s when Time takes Time came out. His Greatest Hits is an excellent one also. Time takes time is My favorite of his. I also have Stop and smell the roses, sentimental journey Beaucoups of Blues. And The Ringo album. But Ringos catalog in the last 30 years has been better and better. I’m still collecting his albums but enjoy his later work quite a lot!!! I did not buy any of the eps but his albums Yes I do try to collect all of them I’m Very excited for the New one Look Up and will probably look for a few I have missed like Chose love and Liverpool 8 I like Ringos self titled album Ringo but don’t Love it I am sure that will change over time with more listens. I don’t buy Ringos albums to be a completest or because he was in the Beatles I buy them because I genuinely like his music. Out of all 4 Beatles it is George Harrison who I actually have the least amount of albums by. I hope that changes over time cause I do Love George but I just don’t have a lot of his albums. I’m sure if he toured in the United States back in the 90s. I probably would’ve bought more of his material. But he did not Sadly. Anyway Great video Loved to hear your point of view take care Now on to Beatley Tones Video for me LOL TAKE CARE!!!!
@@MeanMrMayo yes Thanks I didn’t get the eps cause I remember Ringo staying that he would release them at a bigger cd or album after a few years + I didn’t want to spend $20 on each one I want a full album for that money AND I really only liked here’s to the nights from the material I heard. Most of the songs sound the same so I didn’t want to go for that but with his albums I can always find songs that sound different to me like Give More Love that was a Fantastic album a bit of country, reggae, rock ‘n’ roll. A very underrated album he really just gets better and better.
at the very first solo career John and George where the most successful, give peace a chance number 2, instant karma top 5, plastic ono band, mother top 10 in few countries. And Double fantasy has two uk number one hits.
Great video Mr. Mayo Now as I said in Mr. Beatley Tone’s video, I agree with what he said regarding Ringo’s catalogue Now he does have some good albums, such as the Ringo album, Goodnight Vienna and Whats my Name but he also has some albums, which, in my opinion are bad such as Postcards From Paradise, Choose Love and I apologize if I’m saying this, but I do not like Bad Boy Now regarding his Eps I will also repeat what I said in Mr. Beatley Tone’s video and it is that I rarely play them I don’t really care for Change the World, but I do like the other four and I will start playing them more often Having said all of this, I am very grateful that Ringo is still with us and that he is still making new music and touring Oh, and I also wanted to say that I have never heard Stop and Smell the Roses The reason is that as you may recall from other comments of mine, I am a big fan of John Lennon and I love him a lot and as you know, John was supposed to contribute a song to that album which he couldn’t do to the fact that he went to heaven For this reason, it makes me sad to even think about that album even though I hear it’s really good Anyways, I will end this by saying that I am really looking forward to Ringo’s new album and I know that it is gonna be good because I do love The Beaucops of Blues album and because I am a Beatles fan I do get excited when I hear that Ringo is doing something new although I may not like all of it Thank you for another awesome video Mr. Mayo God bless you, and I will catch you on the next one
Tru, Pete Best has lived off his Beatles past, and dez it,,,Ringo is talented, I'm expecting Ringo's new album to be in his top two albums, a great comeback album,,,The Beatles wouldn't have been the same without Ringo. Ringo is like a good actor, he makes it looks easy, but it;s not...........
I do like Ringo and I enjoy most of his solo material. However, it's probably because he was in the Beatles. Let's face it. Photograph wouldn't have been written if George didn't work with Ringo. The incredible 'Ringo' album probably wouldn't have had the other 3 Beatles or even some of the other famous musicians on it (and there were many). It was because he was a Beatle that Ringo is so famous. Having said that, I've pre-ordered his new album and I'm really looking forward to it. 😄
What people tend to forget is those guys pretty much invented what the standard is today and anything that any of them puts out is going to reach a certain bar otherwise it doesn't get put out. So its always going to be pretty decent music. Whether you choose to like it or buy it is another matter, I would never put someone down or think they had bad taste for owning any of those releases.
I love Ringo as a person, drummer and of course, as a member of the Beatles. I have many of his albums from Sentimental Journey to his first Greatest Hits. After that, his albums are patchy at best. However, this new record produced by T-Bone Burnette sounds like Ringo means it this time and not just putting an album out to put one out.
If it wasn’t for Ringo, the Beatles would have been popular but beatlemania would have never happened. Beatlemania created the studio Beatles years as they ran away from live performances and the studio Beatles spawned their solo careers.
People who buy Ringo records are primarily Beatles fans. Sure, there's loyalty, but there's also that collecting mentality. Could Ringo have made it on his own without being in The Beatles? Likely not. Being in Rory Storm & The Hurricanes didn't help any.
His best single i.m.o. was and still is" ìt don´t come easy". Great song and perfectly done by Ringo. His first album is funny for the cover but the music is not. Beaucoup of Blues. Ringo and Goodnight Vienna lp's are nice with some great songs on it but after that Ringo's lp's are crap. Nothing against Ringo...he is a nice guy...in fact i.m.o. he is and always was the nicest and most normal guy of the 4. Both George and John in their solo careers made some great songs but McCartney beats them both during his solo years until around 1980. After that his songs/ lp's went downhill too. And after looking at the many concert-video's of his latest South American tour I sadly must say his once great voice is gone. But just like Sinatra he can't stop.
No way can I agree with the broad brush narrative "After Goodnight Vienna His Albums Are Crap". No way you could have open-mindedly heard every song off every album in that case.
@@MeanMrMayo So you think lp´s like Ringo's Rotogravure, BAD Boy, Ringo the 4th or Stop and Smell the Roses have any songs of significance ?. I listened to them yes but I did it not as a Beatles-fan. I think that is open-minded. If your answer to my above question should be yes then I am sorry but then i.m.o. you have listened to these lp´s "Beatles-minded" instead of "open-minded". I like the Beatles and yes also some of their solo works but just because Ringo is an ex-beatle many listeners, especially Beatles-guru's like you, tend to be forgiving just because of that when "crap"is produced. Ringo was and still is a great drummer and I like him as a person. But just because I try to be open-minded I, and reading some of the other comments here many with me, are able to recognise when something not so "fab" is produced. And these later LP's stink. I will certainly listen to this new country lp and I really hope it is a bit like Beaucoup of Blues. He has the voice for singing country so let's see. Open-minded enough for you ?
@silknoben5984 Yes, of course all the albums you named have certain good songs of significance on them - and also some clunkers. So do Ringo's other albums during the past 40 years, right through today. Whether there's a "Beatle Bias" or not, it makes no difference - all that matters is that I like songs I like, and I dislike songs I dislike... Ringo's included. You, on the other hand, sound biased against Ringo.
It's Eliot again. My late brother Larry who was also a Big Beatle collector said something to me that made a lot of sense. He said that when you buy a new Ringo album and play it, you always have a fun time listening to Ringo. He never got critical with Ringo. He just had fun with Ringo's music!
I’m still pretty new to extending my Beatles fandom to the solo stuff. I only have about a dozen albums between all 4, but I get what you mean and agree. If I had an unlimited budget today, I would definitely want all the solo stuff including Ringo.
I buy Ringo’s latest, crummy, autotuned albums / EPs because: 1. I’m a Beatles / solo Beatles fan and I buy Beatles / solo Beatles music 2. I’m a collector and an almost completist. I also bought the following garbage albums: 1. Egypt Station 2. Two Virgins 3. Wedding Album 4. Life With The Lions 5. Some Time In NYC Unless it’s an expanded reissue of their pre-1990’s albums, I no longer get that feeling of excitement and anticipation for anything they do now. Ever since Starr and McCartney allowed autotune to destroy their music, including “Now And Then”, the euphoria I once felt whenever a new album was announced is gone. I will say I’m a fan of MeanMrMayo for making a video of himself buying the Yoko box after, unknowingly, passing by the very scarce US pressing of “Sentimental Journey” on the purple Capitol label. That copy of the LP, as well as the one I bought in 1982, now resides very comfortably within my vast Beatles / solo Beatles collection! I couldn’t resist mentioning that but thanks for passing it up! 🎸🎸🎸🎸
First, kudos for candidly admitting that you probably wouldn't be buying most or all of Ringo's albums or EPs if he hadn't been in the Beatles. I think that applies to many of us Beatles fans here. But if there's a difference between following Ringo because of his Beatle background and appreciating Yoko Ono, Johnny Cash, or the Runaways because of recommendations or related releases, it's this - with the latter artists, the quality of their music depends largely on their own creativity. And while Ringo certainly brings a lot of his own talent to his recordings, we know that Photograph, You're Sixteen, It Don't Come Easy, Back Off Boogaloo, and other great Starr songs all benefit significantly from a little help from his Fab friends. Not surprisingly, the less input there is from John, Paul, or George on a Ringo track, the less appealing or successful the result. There are exceptions to this, of course, and you provided a few very good examples (to which I would add most of Time Takes Time). But too often Ringo's non-Beatle collaborators try to imitate the Beatle sound with the songs they write, produce, and record with Richie. And Ringo himself lacks the creative control of a John, Paul, or George. Or Yoko or Joan or Johnny. Over the years/decades, these performances have become as routine and tedious as the peace and love theme. Let's remember that one of the Beatles' greatest attributes was that they got bored quickly. Once they had done anything groundbreaking - I Want To Hold Your Hand, A Hard Day's Night movie, Yesterday, Tomorrow Never Knows, Strawberry Fields Forever, A Day In The Life, etc - they never repeated it. The Beatles were constantly evolving. Granted, none of the solo Beatles managed to achieve this on a similar scale or with similar speed. But for Lennon, McCartney and Harrison there was always variety and a willingness to try new things. As others have observed, there is a sameness which weighs down a lot of Ringo's work. So I understand your point that it doesn't matter if you follow an artist because he was in a band you like or because someone recommended him to you. But I think the "loyalty purchase" label still applies, at least in my case. Being a Beatles freak, I'll collect all of their recordings, group or solo. Hey, I even bought the soundtrack to "Curly Sue" so I could have "You Never Know" in my collection. But if a friend had recommended that I pick up the same song as recorded by Ognir Rrats, I doubt that I would have bought this album or the dozens of others Ognir released. Sure, having my father listen to Johnny Cash provided the gateway for me getting into his music. But it was the consistently high quality of the Man In Black's catalog that persuaded me to keep buying his albums. And to keep listening to them.
Hi Mr Mayo , I have all Ringo’s Apple releases up until stop & smell the roses which was on the RCA label , then I stopped buying them , I haven’t got anytime for his music now , he is putting out Ep’s which don’t interest me , I prefer an Album , and the price of an Ep which varies on how many tracks there are , your paying the price for a full Album . Total Rip off , you don’t get value for money .
Hello Joe, how are things with you, I'm looking forward to Ringo's new album

Actually you are now saying I don’t like Ringo’s music because I’m not open minded.
I think music either speaks to you or it doesn’t.
I love Oasis but don’t like Liam’s solo work. I enjoy Noel’s solo work.
I think a Beatles Fan should be interested in the solo music, not necessarily like all of it.
@ I think Beatles fan should decide for themselves.
Hi Joseph! Great that you truly enjoy Ringo's music.
John wasn't successful, unfortunately. Why do you think he sent Ringo the envious telegram?
@ like I said, it was maybe unsuccessful in the US because of his political stuff. But those early singles were super successful in europe.
@@ricardo_miguel13 John didn't think so
They weren't the BEATLES until he joined in my opinion. Could've Pete Best belted out"Yellow Submarine" ?
Great video Mr. Mayo
Now as I said in Mr. Beatley Tone’s video, I agree with what he said regarding Ringo’s catalogue
Now he does have some good albums, such as the Ringo album, Goodnight Vienna and Whats my Name but he also has some albums, which, in my opinion are bad such as Postcards From Paradise, Choose Love and I apologize if I’m saying this, but I do not like Bad Boy
Now regarding his Eps I will also repeat what I said in Mr. Beatley Tone’s video and it is that I rarely play them
I don’t really care for Change the World, but I do like the other four and I will start playing them more often
Having said all of this, I am very grateful that Ringo is still with us and that he is still making new music and touring
Oh, and I also wanted to say that I have never heard Stop and Smell the Roses
The reason is that as you may recall from other comments of mine, I am a big fan of John Lennon and I love him a lot and as you know, John was supposed to contribute a song to that album which he couldn’t do to the fact that he went to heaven
For this reason, it makes me sad to even think about that album even though I hear it’s really good
Anyways, I will end this by saying that I am really looking forward to Ringo’s new album and I know that it is gonna be good because I do love The Beaucops of Blues album and because I am a Beatles fan I do get excited when I hear that Ringo is doing something new although I may not like all of it
Thank you for another awesome video Mr. Mayo
God bless you, and I will catch you on the next one
Thanks, Angie
Your exactly right, for example I could care less about Zeppo’s movie appearances outside of the Marx
Brothers!
Good man
What people tend to forget is those guys pretty much invented what the standard is today and anything that any of them puts out is going to reach a certain bar otherwise it doesn't get put out.
Ringo is the man, I love his stuff, thanks to guys like you and Matt recommending it!
I wonder why people find Ringo so controversial. Why do they feel provoked by him?
Wait did Beyoncé inspire Ringo to do a country album?
I doubt it
Totally agree with you......I had the same experience with some jazz albums....
I just bought Icon on cd and I love it. I have Beaucoup Of Blues and I am looking forward to his second country album.
It's Eliot again. My late brother Larry who was also a Big Beatle collector said something to me that made a lot of sense. He said that when you buy a new Ringo album and play it, you always have a fun time listening to Ringo. He never got critical with Ringo. He just had fun with Ringo's music!
I like Ringo and am waiting for his country album ❤
I’m still pretty new to extending my Beatles fandom to the solo stuff. I only have about a dozen albums between all 4, but I get what you mean and agree. If I had an unlimited budget today, I would definitely want all the solo stuff including Ringo.
I believe George also had two number ones on a solo album, All Things Must Pass, "My Sweet Lord" and "What Is Life" were both number ones.
@@mibeatleman6767 Not sure about What Is Life.
@@GreenTurtle-rw1cl Definitely one of George's best!
Well said ! 👍
I buy Ringo’s latest, crummy, autotuned albums / EPs because:
1. I’m a Beatles / solo Beatles fan and I buy Beatles / solo Beatles music
2. I’m a collector and an almost completist.
I also bought the following garbage albums:
1. Egypt Station
2. Two Virgins
3. Wedding Album
4. Life With The Lions
5. Some Time In NYC
Unless it’s an expanded reissue of their pre-1990’s albums, I no longer get that feeling of excitement and anticipation for anything they do now.

Get a life 😂
Please tell me how. I want to be just like you.
